Low temperature properties of asphalt binders and mixtures
Veselý, Petr ; Koudelka, Tomáš (referee) ; Dašek, Ondřej (advisor)
Today’s society is highly reliable on a working road infrastructure, which is because of collective efforts already built in terms of main net of roadways, and the attention is now paid to its service life primarily from a point of view of a climate change which is causing more frequent temperature extremes. This thesis sets its goal to perform basic tests for bitumen, especially ones dealing with low temperature properties, on types of bitumen usually used in out day to day world and asphalt mixtures made with those types of bitumen. The theoretical part talks about the basic definition of bitumen and studies performed on the similar issue. Practical part of the thesis is focused on performing the tests of bitumen and asphalt, which include but are not limited to, penetration test, softening point test, critical temperature detected by method by Fraasse and the bending beam rheometer and the test to set critical temperature of asphalt by using TSRST. At the end of the thesis the evaluation of results and its mutual correlation is performed.
Use of fluxing additives to modify the properties of asphalt binders
Šefránková, Radka ; Koudelka, Tomáš (referee) ; Dašek, Ondřej (advisor)
The subject of the thesis is to describe the effect of fluxing additives on the behaviour of asphalt binders. Emphasis will be placed on changes in rheological properties of asphalt binders at intermediate temperatures, stability during aging and influence of fluxing agents on their low-temperature properties. Theoretical part will deal with the principle of asphalt binders aging and it will summarize knowledge about fluxing additives. Further, empirical and functional tests will be described in order to evaluate asphalt binders. In the practical part, all laboratory tests will be evaluated and the effects of two different fluxing additives will be compared.
Interaction between asphalt binder and filler
Indráková, Kristýna ; Hýzl, Petr (referee) ; Dašek, Ondřej (advisor)
The thesis is mainly focused on comparison of properties of mastics, that were mixed in lab. The samples of mastics were mixed of paving bitumen in combination with 9 samples of backhouse filler, 1 inappropriate sample containing mica and 1 sample of additive filler. The folowing tests were used for assessment of samples: The particle density of filler-pyknometer method, The delta ring and ball test, The complex shear modulus and phase angle, The multiple stress creep and recovery test. The tests results were evaluated and compared. The results of the thesis are listed in the conclusion.
Rheological properties of asphalt binders
Coufalík, Pavel ; Bačová,, Katarína (referee) ; Komačka,, Jozef (referee) ; Hýzl, Petr (advisor)
Dissertation thesis is focused on rheological properties of asphalt binders and on changes of their performance during the lifetime in road structures. Aging processes of asphalt binders and methods of laboratory aging are described in the theoretical part of the thesis. Furthermore, basic rheological models and related test methods for the evaluation of asphalt binders are described. In the practical part, properties of asphalt binders are investigated after aging process and their performance is evaluated by empirical and functional test methods. The various methods of aging are compared with each other and a relationship between real conditions and laboratory aging is researched. In the next section, vacuum flashed cracked residue (VFCR) is added to the selected asphalt binders and their influence on rheological properties during description of aging of asphalt binders is investigated. The results were used in publication of two certified methodology under the title „The methodology for the evaluation of paving bitumen in terms of susceptibility to thermal oxidative aging“ and „The methodology describes laboratory aging of asphalt mixtures“. The results of the thesis are listed in the conclusion.
Dynamic viscosity of asphalt binders
Broďák, Marek ; Coufalík, Pavel (referee) ; Dašek, Ondřej (advisor)
The bachelor thesis describes a laboratory characteristics of bituminous binders. The principle, procedure of meansurment and comparison of test results of dynamic viscosity, needle penetration and softening point by ring and ball method will be described. The tests will be performed on samples of the bituminous binders with different degree of modification.
Application of crumb rubber in bituminous binders and in bituminous mixtures
Dašek, Ondřej ; Fišer,, Jiří (referee) ; Vacín,, Otakar (referee) ; Komačka,, Jozef (referee) ; Kudrna, Jan (advisor)
Presented dissertation thesis is focused on the possibility of using the crumb rubber from waste tires for modification of paving grade bitumen. The resulting asphalt rubber can be used as an alternative to polymer modified bitumen in compacted bituminous mixtures. The theoretical part describes the rheological properties of asphalt binders and the history and today state of the art in the world and in the Czech Republic. The practical part of the work contains a description of the properties of chosen crumb rubbers and produced asphalt rubbers focused on their rheological properties and on change of these properties caused by the aging at high temperature. Subsequently, the chosen empirical and functional properties of bituminous mixtures with asphalt rubber are described. Laboratory properties of these mixtures were verified under real service conditions on 32 test sections. Based on the dissertation thesis results the preliminary technical specification of the Ministry of Transport (TP 148) and their following revision were approved. The conclusion of the work summarizes and highlights the results of the dissertation.
Rheological properties of binders
Hotař, Petr ; Fišer,, Jiří (referee) ; Kudrna, Jan (advisor)
The comparison of rheological properties (complex shear modulus and phase angle and dynamic viscosity) of four paving bitumens and two polymer modified bitumens is performed in this diploma thesis. Furthermore, the empirical tests (needle penetration and softening point) were determined on these binders. Effect of asphalt binders aging was modeled using RTFOT test and modified RTFOT test (3 x RTFOT).
