The World of David Walliams and Roald Dahl's Children's Books. A Comparative Analysis
TŮMOVÁ, Eliška
Through a comparative analysis of the prosaic work of two British authors of children's literature, the bachelor thesis will attempt to describe the dynamics of the development of literary works for children's readers in the context of British fantasy literature. By way of examples from works of the contemporary author David Walliams, the thesis will deal with themes, motifs and manner of narration of the author of humorous children's prose in comparison with the literary legacy of works of Roald Dahl. The thesis focuses its attention on the form of literary grotesque and hyperbole, which in the context of works for children's readers opens up controversial themes in the case of both mentioned authors.
Roald Dahl's Children's Books and Short Stories for Adults
VOJNOVÁ, Pavlína
The subject of the bachelor's thesis is the literary work of the British author Roald Dahl, whose specific approach to the literary canon of children's literature enriched the work intended for child readers in the course of the 20th and 21st centuries. The thesis aims to compare the author's contribution in the context of British children's literature and literature for adult readers. The core of the thesis will be a comparative analysis of Dahl's work, finding common themes, motifs and moral overlap between children's stories and short stories and novels for adult readers. In the final chapter, the thesis compares the film adaptations of the stories for children's readers with their original literary counterparts.
Female Characters and the Relationship of Women to Children in Roald Dahl's Children's Fiction
BUBLOVÁ, Kateřina
The aim of the Bachelor thesis is a literary analysis of the characteristics of female characters in Roald Dahl's work for children's readers. Roald Dahl became known as the author of grotesque prose for adults, and his work for children is characterized by black humour, hyperbole, grotesque elements and some controversy of his works (The Witches, George's Marvellous Medicine, etc). The work will firstly introduce Roald Dahl and his work in different categories of readers (children and adult readers) and then will deal with the topic of the author's anti-feminist approach to female characters, especially in Dahl's prose The Witches. The theoretical basis of the work will compare the concept of female characters in the classic fairy tale by Grimm Brothers (Bettelheim) and the characteristics of female characters in Dahl's work for children's readers. The practical part of the work will further assess the influence of role models and model characters on the child reader in Dahl's work for children, including possible controversies in the reading and interpretation. The role of humour, hyperbole and grotesque will be the subject of final analysis within my research as part of the Bachelor thesis.

Sýkorová, Michaela ; Klumparová, Štěpánka (advisor) ; Hausenblas, Ondřej (referee)
Resumé This diploma thesis deals with the didactic potential of Roald Dahl's books and examines their possible use at primary schools. The purpose of this thesis is a deeper analysis of the two of Roald Dahl's works (Danny, the Champion of the World and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory). The thesis focuses on both-the didactical and the literary theory analysis. The teaching units, which are part of the thesis, are based on the parts from the two mentioned Dahl's books. The choice of the parts and methods is didactically commented. Based on the practical credentials, the results are reflected throughout the teaching units. The work also gives information about Roald Dahl's life and contextualizes his works into his life. Last but not least, the thesis focuses on a mini-research of the amount of Dahl's texts in reading-books for the pupils of the fourth grade at primary schools.
