Fronting in present-day English

This diploma thesis deals with the phenomenon of the English word order called ``fronting``, i.e. the initial position of a clause constituent other than the subject in the sentence. The introductory part is based on the relevant linguistic literature available, a separate section is devoted to the initial position of negative expressions. In the practical part of the thesis the author examines the frequency of fronting of the respective clause constituents, and the proportion of the ``thematic`` and ``rhematic fronting``, i.e. how often and under what conditions the initial clause constituent represents part od the theme, or rheme, respectively. The source material for the research are authentic English texts from fiction, journalism and the authentic spoken language.

New prepositions and use of ancient Greek prepositions in Modern Greek

Veronika Půlpánová Abstract: The first part of the thesis includes a definition of the term preposition and its general use and here it's represented as an outline of the evolution of the Greek language and prepositions together with the Greek Language tendency to lose declination and its transformation to the modern form. Second part tells about all kinds of prepositions in the Modern Greek language based on scientific grammar books. Prepositions are arranged according to the alphabet based on their types and there is an explanation of its use together with an example from a text from the ETHEG (Εθνικός Θησαυρός Ελληνικής Γλώσσας). In a case of the ancient prepositions based on their frequency and a reason of their preservation, possibly their influence on the preserving cases. The third part is dedicated to the Ancient Greek prepositions and their meanings in this way the contrast of their use between Modern and Ancient Greek is shown. Ancient Greek prepositions which are used in the Modern Greek language are mentioned.

Prepositional constructions of place and time adverbials in Czech and English

The bachelor thesis focuses on matters of prepositional constructions of place and time adverbials in Czech and English. The theoretical part will be dedicated to a description and distribution of adverbials in both languages with emphasis on place and time adverbials. It also describes and compares prepositional constructions and prepositions in English and Czech. The analytical part deals with an analysis of prepositional constructions in Roald Dahl's work. It highlights either correspondences or differences based on comparison of Czech and English translation.

Contrastive Analysis of German and Czech Prepositions on Examples für, durch and von as well as z and o

This bachelor work is dealing with contrastive analysis of German and Czech prepositions. In theoretic part I introduce prepositions as a part of speech in German and Czech language. Then I'm concentrating on cases which relate to prepositions and on meanings of prepositions. Finally, I'm dealing with comparison of cases in Czech and German language. In the empirical part, I'm focusing on the particular prepositions. Durch, für, von from German, z and o from Czech language. Then I do the contrastive analysis by the method of contrastive linguistics and I use the parallel corpus Intercorp, in which I search adequate number of examples for those prepositions. The main purpose of this work is doing the morphosyntactic and lexical analysis of contrastive usage of given prepositions, and then do the classification and systematization.
