Antenatal preparation in České Budějovice region
ŠTĚCHOVÁ, Gabriela
This bachelor thesis deals with the importance of antenatal preparation and the use of information obtained at these courses. The first aim of the work was to map the knowledge of women from antenatal preparation and their use. The second goal was to find out the opinions of midwifes on the usefulness of antenatal preparation. The bachelor thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part contains basic information about antenatal preparation in general. Furthermore, the theoretical part is divided into topics of theoretical and practical nature, with which women can meet in the courses of antenatal preparation. Topics as pregnancy, lifestyle in pregnancy, prenatal care, selection of maternity hospital, birth plan, when to go to maternity hospital and what to bring there, escort to childbirth, birth process itself, first treatment of newborn and postpartum period are described there. Practical topics include for example breathing and pushing techniques during childbirth, puerperium exercises, breastfeeding and newborn care. The practical part of the thesis was carried out by means of qualitative research, in the form of semi-structured interviews. The research group consisted of 10 women who attended a course of antenatal preparation in the České Budějovice region and 7 midwives working at the Gynecology and Obstetrics Department at České Budějovice Hospital, a.s. The interviews with the respondents were recorded on dictaphone with their consent, then literally rewritten and analyzed. In order to evaluate the data with women who have completed pre-natal courses, 6 categories that include also10 sub-categories were set. Four categories were created for data evaluation with midwives. Based on the above-mentioned goals, three research questions were identified for the research part. The first research question explored what the knowledge of women from antenatal preparation is. Research has shown that most informants were satisfied with the amount of information they received on the course. One of the respondents stated that instead of theoretical information on the course, she would rather appreciate the practical knowledge. On the other hand, another respondent mentioned that there was a lot of information and a small amount of time to obtain the information. The second research question dealt with the use of information obtained at pre-natal courses. Research has shown that most respondents used the correct breathing technique that they have learned in courses, during their delivery. The interviews also revealed that the respondents used other information gathered on the course, such as when to go to maternity hospital, what to pack to the maternity ward, how to distinguish pregnancy cramps from the contractions or the pushing technique. The third research question dealt with the opinions of midwives on antenatal preparation courses. All midwives interviewed have a positive attitude to prenatal preparation courses. But they stated that there is no significant difference between the woman who attended the course and the woman who did not attend any course. However, midwives are convinced that it is certainly worthwhile to attend antenatal courses, especially for primiparas. The knowledge acquired during processing of this bachelor thesis can help midwives who lead antenatal preparation courses, for example to improve their leadership. The output of the bachelor thesis is a leaflet in which there is a comprehensive list of prenatal courses, which are offered in České Budějovice and a more detailed description of individual courses.

Childbirth is the most beautiful moment, however, it is also a turning point in life for both women and men. Pregnant women can be afraid of the delivery, therefore, they often seek advice in antenatal preparation courses. Women can start attending the courses anytime, but the most of them start at an advanced stage of pregnancy. In the courses, women get acquainted with the process of pregnancy, in addition, they are being prepared to the delivery, lying-in and breastfeeding. The knowledge gained during these courses lead to the removal of negative emotions associated with the delivery. The introduction of this thesis is theoretical and describes the history of antenatal preparation. In the next part, we focused on the current state of antenatal preparation courses and we divided them into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part of the course is divided into chapters that contain information pregnant women should receive in the antenatal preparation courses. The part describes pregnancy, maternity and parental leave, the selection of the maternity hospital, when to go to the hospital and what to take with you, accompaniment in the delivery room, preparation for the delivery, pain relief, the period of lying-in, child care and breastfeeding. The practical part of the course describes what are the appropriate physical activity during pregnancy, practicing breathing and relaxing positions during the delivery. The aim of the research part of this thesis was to determine whether mothers are satisfied with antenatal preparation courses management in Pribram and surroundings and whether they will use the information provided in the courses. The practical part was conducted using qualitative research techniques. The data was gathered through interviewing using semi-structured interviews. These interviews were recorded and subsequently processed and rewritten for better clarity. The obtained data was analyzed by hand coding then. For greater clarity, the results were organized into one main category containing 12 subcategories. The research sample consisted of 6 women who attended an antenatal preparation course in Pribram and surroundings. Interviews were anonymous and were conducted in private, outside the hospital. The first research question dealt with how participants evaluate the quality of antenatal preparation courses in Pribram and surroundings. The research revealed that the majority of interviewees (70%) was satisfied with the antenatal preparation courses management in the area and the course was positively evaluated. Most women recommends to visit an antenatal preparation course, at least during the first pregnancy. The results show that the midwives who led the courses seemed to be nice and friendly to the respondents. There was only 1 respondent who was not satisfied with the midwife. The second research question focused on how participants use the information provided in antenatal preparation courses. The survey showed that the most frequently used information gained from the courses include information about breathing during the delivery, child care, lying-in and breastfeeding and about organizational matters. The third research question concentrated on lack of information in antenatal preparation courses. The results revealed that a half of respondents did not miss any information during the course. The second half of interviewees lacked information about C-section and about the rights during the delivery and breastfeeding. After analyzing the survey, it was discovered that women learn valuable information in antenatal preparation courses that helps them during the delivery and taking care of the child then. The results of this thesis might be used to improve and extend the prenatal care for pregnant women and midwives leading the antenatal preparation courses. A recommendation we can make for birth attendants is to spread information about the rights during the delivery.

JUROVÁ, Kristýna
Pregnancy is one of the most beautiful moments in human life. The mother organism undergoes numerous changes due to the pregnancy. The woman is getting ready for motherhood. They enter an absolutely new and unknown period. A birth preparation course may be found very helpful for them since it helps clarify the course of pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum period. Women are prepared, informed and have a rough idea what all they may expect. The main objective of the bachelor thesis is to ascertain whether women are satisfied with the concept of birth preparation courses. The sub-objectives are to ascertain whether women make practical use of the knowledge obtained in birth preparation courses during their pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum period. The research was conducted by a quantitative method, using the form of questionnaires. The respondents were primiparas who underwent birth preparation courses. The questionnaires were distributed at the postpartum ward in the hospitals in České Budějovice and Příbram. The questionnaire was anonymous, voluntary and the results of the research were processed only within the scope of the bachelor thesis. The data collection took place from November 2011 to February 2012. Within the research, the data from 110 correctly completed questionnaires were assessed. The results are clearly presented in diagrams. All objectives have been fulfilled ? women are satisfied with the concept of the birth preparation courses. In total, 72 % of the respondents evaluate the courses as helpful, 90 % of the respondents would recommend the undertaken course to their friends, and 80 % of the respondents did not lack any information at the course. The first research issue has also been confirmed ? women make practical use of the knowledge obtained in birth preparation courses during their pregnancy. Preparation for childbirth is the main reason why women want to attend birth preparation courses. The second research issue, namely whether women make practical use of the knowledge obtained in birth preparation courses during the childbirth, has also been confirmed. This conclusion was derived with the aid of diagrams 9-13. The women mention the knowledge of the breathing technique, are familiar with relief positions, are informed of the probable course of childbirth, etc. The last research issue has also been answered ? women make practical use of the knowledge obtained in birth preparation courses during the postpartum period. Women know how to take care of their breasts after the childbirth, how to observe hygiene after the childbirth, know the correct breastfeeding technique, etc. The drawn up bachelor thesis may serve, in particular, for midwives who run birth preparation courses. They may find out what information women lack at birth preparation courses, focus on the given issue and rectify the deficiencies. The bachelor thesis may also serve as an educational material for future midwives who may get an idea what all is involved in birth preparation.
The importance of pre-natal preparatione.
BUREŠOVÁ, Markéta
Antenatal preparations during the period of pregnancy have an important role. This includes professional healthcare workers getting to know the women during pregnancy, establishing how to work together the most effectively during the period before the birth, how to cope with the postnatal period and women also learn about the basic care of their baby. The value of antenatal preparation for future mothers is not insignificant and cannot be separated from the role of the professional midwife. Part of the physical care of pregnancy belongs within the realm of the midwife and is covered by the paragraph MZ CR no.55/2011 clause 5 which refers to the competence of the midwife. For 10 years I have been in charge of antenatal provision in Klatovy and therefore selected this topic for my research project. I wanted to assess if the antenatal preparations in this region were sufficient and the reasons the midwives had for taking charge of such antenatal courses. The method I used was a semi-informal interview. The respondents were midwives working in the maternity suite of the gynecological and maternity department of Klatovy hospital. Following the interviews I was able to address the first question posed in this research project: ?How do midwives evaluate the antenatal provision in Klatovy region?? A clear picture emerged that antenatal provision in this region is of a high quality and organized. . The second question: ?For what reasons had the midwives become involved in leading these antenatal preparations?? was also addressed. Respondents were in agreement that the main motivation for being in charge of such antenatal courses was to work together with pregnant women. . I believe that the results obtained from this research could be used for further improving and extending care of pregnant women via antenatal course provision in Klatovy and in addition the data could be incorporated into a manual.
