Analysis of the Multiplex Market Using Statistical Methods
Komárek, Lukáš ; Novotná, Veronika (referee) ; Doubravský, Karel (advisor)
The thesis is focused on the analysis of the multiplex cinema market in the Czech Republic. The thesis evaluates the performance of selected multiplex with the help of statistical tools, time series, regression analysis and control charts. The current state is reviewed on the basis of results of the analysis and outlines the possible future development.
Multicinema information system
Baxa, Radek ; Holek, Radovan (referee) ; Macho, Tomáš (advisor)
The thesis deals with information system for multicinema. In general, it is about project and largely realization software which can manage relevant information in multicinema organization. The first part is introduction and study of programming platform for construct information systems. In general they are PHP, DOT NET and J2EE. There is also description of related technologies for remote desktop and web clients too. The second part is about analysis. The most important chapters contain determination requirements and database schema for persistent storage data. At the end of this part analysis class diagram is mentioned too. The third part is about projection and about software realization using J2EE technologies EJB, JSP and so on. Selected segments of the system are described using UML diagrams. The appendix contains index to abbreviations. Main addition is compact disk containing complete documentation and created software (source codes, binaries).
Transformation of the Cinema Infrastructure in the Czech Republic in 1989-2009
Mohoritová, Natálie ; Chromý, Pavel (advisor) ; Hupková, Martina (referee)
The presented thesis deals with the description of the infrastructure of the cinemas and their location in the Czech Republic in the period of 1989-2009. Special attention is given to the process of transformation of filmmaking and the course of privatization of the cinema industry. The second part is devoted to the development process in terms of number of cinemas, their concentration with regard to the regions and also the distribution of particular types of the cinema within the Czech Republic. Further, two specific types of cinemas are being compared - the cinema complexes and art cinemas. Comparison is made in terms of their general location, their placement within the city and their dramaturgy. On the map attached at the end of the thesis one can see the development and concentration of cinema complexes in the area of the Czech Republic beginning with the openning of the first complex and ending in the year 2009. Key words: art cinema, cinema, cinema complex, cinema distribution, cinema localization, cultural infrastructure, transformation

Cinema services as a market of vertical and horizontal differenciated product
Jakoubek, Jakub ; Koubek, Ivo (advisor) ; Brožová, Dagmar (referee)
This bachelor thesis analyzes cinema market in the Czech Republic. Multiplexes are crushing their competition of regular cinemas in number of spectators and net revenues. The main aim of the thesis is to prove that product differentiation and distance between the competitors are more important than standard relationship: quantity demanded - supplied price. Based on the data from UFD, where can be found information about all cinemas and multiplexes from the years 2006 - 2014, I estimate models using econometric analysis, which examines the effects of the determinants on the cinema demand. The main focus is on distance to the nearest competitor and quality factor. Conclusions of the thesis confirm that vertical differentiation has the biggest effect on the number of spectators and on the other hand, distance to the nearest competitor is not able to explain the damage from a distance. It turns out that the price differential reflects qualitative differences and the distance between the cinemas.
What is the difference between determinants of ticket demand at an open air cinema and multiplex cinemas?
Knittelová, Tereza ; Lahvička, Jiří (advisor) ; Svoboda, Miroslav (referee)
This bachelor thesis identifies the determinants of the demand of an open air cinema. As a basis, data from the open air cinema Širák in the years 2010 -- 2013 has been used. It has been shown, that open air cinema's price elasticity of attendance demand is roughly unit elastic thus it maximizes its revenue from sold tickets. In comparison a multiplex cinema does not maximize its revenue from sold tickets and its price elasticity of attendance demand is inelastic. As a result of this thesis it has been found that visitors of an open air cinema are almost unaffected by movie genre in their decision to visit the open air cinema. However this is not the case for visitors of a multiplex. Visitors of either cinema prefer Czech movies over foreign ones. The attendance of the open air cinema is highly influenced by the weather.
Demand for cinemas - what determines the consumer behaviour?
Řeháková, Petra ; Mičúch, Marek (advisor) ; Kovanda, Lukáš (referee)
The main aim of this diploma thesis is to identify the determinants of behavior of demand for multiplexes in Prague. The main building material is the dataset of attendance and revenues evolution for individual movies distributed between years 2002 and 2011, always for the first four weeks from the premiere, provided by the Union of Film Distributors. The paper investigates consumer behavior on the movie market. The demand for movies is the dependent variable measured by the number of visitors in the corresponding weeks. The subject of analysis -- explanatory variable - is price, film rating (critics), genre, country of origin, character of time frame, frequency of screenings in a given week, format (2D/3D), length of movie, popularity of the actor/director, impact of movie series etc. The data are exposed to the regression according to which the significance of different variables is tested. The hypothesis about strong negative correlation of the price and quantity demanded is investigated based on the results, (Dewenter R., Westermann M., 2005) versus the hypothesis of weak sensitivity those two variables (Sangho Kim, 2009) against a more significant relationship of demand and other determinants. The influence of price on attendance has shown to be insignificant on the Prague movie market in the short term. A significant determinant impacting the attendance for a movie in the entire monitored period is the film rating, actor, length of movie, and number of screenings.
Screening art house movies in the multiplex Cinestar Andel
Kafuňková, Martina ; Hanzlík, Jan (advisor) ; Kouba, Vojtěch (referee)
The Bachelor Thesis "Screening art house movies in the multiplex Cinestar Andel" deals with the role of art house movies in the multiplex Cinestar Andel. The theoretical part describes the terms "art house film", "multiplex" and "film festival". It also shows the possibilities of screening art house films. The question of the impact of digitalization on the distribution of Art House films is also considered. The practical part focuses on current examples of screening art house films, namely Febiofest and the Europa Cinema project. The conclusion is answering the question whether it is appropiate to combine different elements of Hollywood blockbusters and European art house cinema or other art cinema in the space of a specific multiplex.
