This bachelor thesis deals critically with the topic of the contemporary discourse on the status and professional involvement of women in Czech music, as formulated in Mirko Očadlík's study Woman in Czech Music [Žena v české hudbě] published in the Czech Woman in National History [Česká žena v dějinách národa] anthology (1940). In this thesis my critical aparatus is based on theoretical reflections of feminist musicology (a critique of the musical canon of Western art music tradition), cultural anthropology and feminist philosophy. The topic offers a range of other issues suitable for further research, and it also contributes to the debate on understanding the position of women in Czech music.

This thesis deals with music criticism of musicologist and music critic Mirko Očadlík (1904-1964) which he published in years 1930-1934 in the journal "Klíč" that was for the most of its existence edited by himself.
