WE WON'T RESIGN! - The magazine Mladý hlasatel 1937-1938 and his role in the defence of the Czechoslovakia.

This graduation thesis is focused on the children's magazine "Mladý hlasatel", which was published by "Melantrich" publishing house during 1935-1941, and his role from September 1937 to September 1938. This thesis would like to analyse principal aspects of its history, especially its influence on readers' interest in issues of active national and state defence. The branches of this analysis are these: current news, belletristic, instructional and educational articles. It also tried to describe the relationship between "Mladý hlasatel" and the other newaspapers and magazines published by "Melantrich", to compile the c. v. of Břetislav Mencák, editor of "Mladý hlasatel". At the same time it found and rebutted many mistakes and inaccuracies, which were unknown. It essentially made visual available this otherwise hard accessible magazine. This thesis would like to be a contribution to the history of "Mladý hlasatel", and to the history of Czech children's magazines and point to the neglected problem of a children's role and potentialities during the Czechoslovak crisis 1938.

Abstract in English language This work depicts the life story story of a "self-made man" Jaroslav Salda, the creator and director of the Melantrich, the biggest printing company in Czechoslovak time of so called First Republic. It is doing so by compiling interviews with period witnesses, archival documents and literary sources. Each chapter is a part of the answer to the question: How is it possible that the illegitimate child without funds and university education had become the man with extensive expertise, the frequent guest of Ministers and the President and the powerful head of the media industry? This text as a whole, firmly tied to the history of the Czech nation and Melantrich, reflects the experience of the man who dedicated his life to building, because he considered the constructive, innovative, diligent and hard work the main means of fulfillment in life and the key to success. It shows a person which embodies the adage: Where there is a will, there is a way. Star - sport magazine of the first czechoslovak republic

This bachelor thesis aims to illuminate evolution of sports illustrated magazine Star, which was published in years 1926-1938 in Czech publishing house Melantrich. Magazine Star was also used to illuminate the situation of Czech sports journalism in 1920' and 1930'. Thesis describes the very beginning of Star and also clarifies its extinction right before signing of the Munich Agreement by Great Britain, France, Germany and Italy. It also focuses on sports journalists, who had the main impact on this magazine, and several important Czech and world famous athletes, whose articles were published in STAR. Paper also presents political a social environment in Czechoslovak republic after WWI and describes the state of Czech sports journalism in main newspapers. All published issues of Star were analysed to get information to write this thesis, as well as many years of Czech newspapers České slovo, Národní listy, Lidové noviny a Rudé právo and several other books. The findings from this research show a complex view of sports illustrated magazine Star and offer insights into history of Czech sports journalism.

On the parodique intention of the magazine "Příšerný večerník" 1929-1931

Bachelor thesis "On the parodique intention of the magazine "Příšerný večerník" 1929-1931" maps history of popular press in our countries between wars and its development in our countries and other countries where it started to spread - England, France, Germany and USA. Thesis mostly discusses parody of popular press by "Příšerný večerník", that mimicked popular press, which was issued by Jiří Stříbrný and his concern Tempo. Thesis deals with terms like parody, satire and caricature in Příšerný večerník, which was weekly periodical being printed in Public press room A. Němec. Objective of this thesis is to analyze articles of Příšerný večerník, that handled personality of Jiří Stříbrný and his press concern, then, results of this analysis will be used to determine social construction of reality, meaning social construction of Jiří Stříbrný's personality.
