The Co-operative Principle in technical texts

Tato práce analyzuje užití kooperativního principu a konceptů s ním souvisejících v odborných textech. Kooperativní princip, poprvé specifikován Gricem, je jednou z nejvýznamnějších teorií v pragmatice a jeho užití nebo opomíjení lze pozorovat téměř v každé komunikaci. S ohledem na to, autor práce analyzuje odborné technické texty a popisuje různé pragmatické jevy s tímto principem související. Práce dále popisuje zdvořilostní princip, související s principem kooperativním, demonstruje jeho užití a ukazuje různé zdvořilostní strategie používané v odborných technických textech. Součástí je také vysvětlení pragmatických aspektů odborných technických textů a jejich ukázání přímo v textu. Na závěr jsou odborné odborné technické texty porovnány s texty netechnickými a je vysvětlen rozdíl v užití kooperativního a zdvořilostního principu.

Developing Intercultural Communicative Competence Using the Cooperative Principle

The following thesis introduces a four-lesson teaching intervention focused on the development of Intercultural Communicative Competence of EFL learners through their exposure to the Cooperative Principle and its four maxims. The main aim is to help the students better notice, interpret and interculturally compare inexplicit communication in English. The Cooperative Principle serves as an organizationally clear framework, which allows for succinct yet quite extensive analyses of implicatures created by speakers of various cultural backgrounds. A quasi-experiment conducted in four groups of students aged 16 to 17 assesses whether the intervention really enhances the Intercultural Communicative Competence of the students, raising their awareness of the influence that culture has on inexplicit communication and language in general.

The Language Usage in the Field of Politics

The topic of the presented bachelor thesis is The Language Usage in the Field of Poli-tics. The thesis is divided into two main chapters. The Theory of Cooperative Principle by Herbert Paul Grice and Politeness Principle by Geoffrey Leech are presented in the first part of the thesis. Their description is supported by an example from the Corpus. The Corpus of the thesis consists of ten political interviews conducted in the time frame between August and November 2015 and published in the newspaper ´Die Welt´. The topic of all ten interviews is tightly connected to the ´Immigration crisis´ in Germany. The aim of this thesis is to ascertain whether the Cooperative Principles and Politeness principles in the political interviews are observed or non-observed and whether the sys-tem of their usage has changed in the given period. The analyzed data are presented in the second part of the thesis and the results are supported by the example from the cor-pus.
