The Context of Literary Journalism: USA and France
Soukeníková, Eva ; Ježková, Tereza (advisor) ; Köpplová, Barbara (referee)
Literary journalism is a specific journalism genre which utilizes literary narration. A movement around Tom Wolfe, Truman Capote and other authors was formed in the USA in 1960s. This diploma thesis presents core streams of thought around literary journalism and focuses on its theoretical base in media and literary studies. Furthermore, the thesis compares US literary journalists and their texts with France and its media production. Key issues analysed in this study are theoretical base of literary journalism in the postmodern era, correlations with political and social events, genre comparison in the USA and France, and, finally, dualism of what is considered objective and subjective in literature and in journalism. Theoretical findings are applied in and discussed within the case examples of six authors from both the USA and France. Finally, the thesis opens a further discussion on contemporary perspectives on literary journalism and its representation in the digital space.
