Kahle, Petr
Economic development and well-being are key aspects affecting the quality of life of individuals and societies. This bachelor thesis focuses on the systematization of the possibilities of measuring economic development and well-being, compares GDP with selected alternative indicators and verifies their correlation. The thesis explores the theoretical background, the current state of research and uses regression, correlation and cluster analysis to examine the relationships between GDP and alternative indicators. The aim is to contribute to the understanding of the possibilities of measuring economic development and well-being and their relevance for the design of economic policies and strategies. The paper tests hypotheses concerning the correlation between GDP and HDI, the contribution of alternative indicators, the relationship between GDP and the level of well-being of the population, environmental impact and investment in human capital.

The diploma thesis deals with monitoring the development of food security in Malawi, Zimbabwe and Zambia. The specific criteria for the selection of three states were the HDI indicator and the geographical location of the selected states. Through individual indicators from different pillars of food security, the work evaluates the most significant factors that cause food insecurity in the monitored countries. The theoretical part of the thesis explains the basic facts and the background of the problem, contains an explanation of key terms and terms, and defines individual causes and consequences of food security at the level of selected countries. The work also describes the most used indicators measuring food safety. The practical part based on the development of monitored indicators (average protein intake; average protein intake of animal origin; prevalence of moderate or severe food insecurity; prevalence of severe food shortage; percentage of the population using basic hygiene services; percentage of the population with access to drinking water; percentage of children under 5 years, suffering from stunting; prevalence of anemia in women of reproductive age; variability of food production per person; political stability and absence of violence/terrorism) in the period 2009-2019 examines the factors that influenced changes in these indicators. In the work, it was found that the most important factors influencing the development of food security in the observed states of Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe are climatic conditions, political and economic situation, low education of the population and infectious diseases. These factors slow down the economic growth of countries and prevent growth from developing to developed countries and result in food insecurity and consequences.

The aim of this thesis is to analyze the impact of government of Hugo Chávez on economic development of Venezuela. This thesis is divided into three parts: The theoretical part, the analytical part and the proposal. In the theoretical part are defined basic economic concepts, such as national economy, economic development and growth, selected economic and social indicators that determine economic development of the state, the international trade and forms of government. The analytic section is mostly focused on the analysis of five selected indicators in three time periods, which clarify the impact of government of Hugo Chávez on economic development of Venezuela. Final findings of the analysis of five selected indicators are summarized in the SWOT analysis to evaluate the government of Hugo Chávez, together with two possible future scenarios of development. In the proposal are described possible solutions or suggestions for heading of the policy of President Hugo Chávez to ensure the economic development of Venezuela.

The area of ASEAN countries and the subsequent role of regionalisation were being analysed in this thesis whilst employing the HDI, mortality rate up to 5 years, life expectancy at birth, GDP per capita, unemployment rate, and FDI as the crucial indicators. The study aims to examine the ASEAN countries and its aggregation within both the economic and social spheres. A 10-year period (2006-2016) had been inquired so that the development of each indicator may be examined. And therefore, results of beta convergence could be displayed in a correlation diagrams. The convergence trend has mirrored in five indicators. The only indicator, however, to be diverging has been represented by the unemployment rate. The findings of beta convergence suggest that, in comparison with economic indicators, social indicators tend to converge in a more significant manner in the ASEAN countries.

This thesis focuses on current approaches to the measurement of poverty. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate if measuring poverty indicators and quality of life indicators used by United Nations Development Programme and Eurostat are meaningful enough. The theoretical part is an analysis of chosen indicators. The theoretical knowledge is followed by practical part, comparing poverty levels in member states of the European Union, and giving deeper insight into the analysis of sub-indicators. Furthermore, the thesis looks at informative value connected to mutual relations among the indicators. The comparison reveals that the level of human development is negatively related to aspects such as insufficient economic growth, inequality and low level of wealth redistribution. From an analytical point of view, new multi-criteria indicators are useful enough for the purpose of research on this topic, in spite of certain imperfections.

Sýkorová, Kateřina
This thesis deals with identification and analysis of ways to measure the healthcare factor affecting living standards. The first part is the study of expert publications and databases, examining international organizations and identification of ways to measure selected categories of healthcare factors. Identified indicators are then analyzed using in-depth interviews with experts in the field of healthcare. Regression analysis was performed for selected indicators, which is crucial in assessing the degree to which the indicator explains the standard of living. The last part based on established methodology evaluates current situation in healthcare in relation to the standard of living in the Czech republic.

HUMLEROVÁ, Veronika
The Doctoral dissertation, the Strategy of Regional Development and Rural Development supported by the EU and their implementation in the Czech Republic, deals with the evaluation of a link between prosperity of a municipality based on the population or migration growth or population decline and drawing subsidies from the European Union. The aim of this work is to determine whether the thriving municipalities are more successful in drawing of subsidies than the unprofitable municipalities. A sub-goal of this Doctoral dissertation is to analyse the impact of human potential of municipalities on drawing of EU funds. The author, in the practical part of the Doctoral dissertation first focused on testing the prosperity of 100 randomly selected rural municipalities and their drawing of EU subsidies during the period 2007 - 2011. For these 100 municipalities was calculated the modified HDI which represents the human potential of municipalities and was compared with municipalities with respect to their prosperity. Finally, there was determined the dependence of drawing money from EU funds on the human potential of municipalities using the correlation and regression analysis.

The thesis concerns issue of the economic growth or income as a sufficient indicator to size up poverty situation and its development. The aim of the thesis is to find poverty measurement possibilities and to describe consequently the differences in results related to the selected indicators. Income inequality index is presented as part of the thesis and also GDP values are emphasized. The thesis also covers practical calculation of Human Development Index (HDI) and Human Poverty Index (HPI). On the basis of empiric values concerning HDI and HPI published in UNDP materials, three EU member states were chosen on which calculation of mentioned indices is demonstrated and compared with situation in the Czech Republic in consequence. Further, differentiation results between HDP and HDI are presented. They point out to the rate at which the economic growth is efficiently used in favour of society that occupies an important position in the process of economic development.
