Radio Broadcasting for the German Minority in the Czech lands until 1945 with an emphasis of the Mělník Brodcast Transmitter

The thesis Radio Broadcasting for the German Minority in the Czech Countries until the Year 1945, with the Example of the Melnik Broadcast Transmitter describes the radio broadcasting for the German people living in Bohemia and Moravia in the period from its formation until the year 1945. It concentrates on the radio broadcaster in Melnik that was built in 1938 with the purpose of giving a special broadcasting to the German minority living in the Czech countries. The analytical part is divided into three sections: broadcasting for the Germans in the First and Second Republic and Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. Another chapter focuses on the broadcasting from The Soviet Union (especially on the broadcaster Sudetendeutscher Freiheitssender) and Great Britain. It focuses on the contrasting access to the radio broadcasting for this group from the side of the Czech political representation and from the side of the German state. The ones who stayed - The Germans in Prachatice and its surroundings after 1945

This bachelor thesis is concerned with the expulsion of Germans from Czechoslovakia and with the Germans who stayed there. In the first part, the situation in the whole Czechoslovakia is analysed. The thesis provides a description of the history of the German minority on the Czechoslovak territory from the establishment of the republic, which means from 1918, past the World War II and the following expulsion till the following period. Moreover, the thesis focuses on the reasons which enabled some Germans to stay in Czechoslovakia or even forced them to do so and on the subsequent development of their lives there. The second part of the thesis aims on the German minority in the district of Prachatice. The history of Germans in this district and the process of their expulsion are described. For the last part, three contemporary witnesses of the event have been interviewed in order for their life stories to be individually documented. To conclude with, the thesis presents a comparison of the similarities and differences of their fortunes.
The German minority and the Prague Spring 1968

The proposed thesis The German Minority and Prague Spring 1968 focuses on changes in the life of the German population in the territory of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s. The thesis deals with an influence of reviving process of the Prague Spring on the progress of status of the German minority in the Czechoslovakia, which was marginalized by that time. The author presented a detailed analysis of those events of year 1968, which related to the national minorities policy and led to reception of the constitutional law Nr. 144/1968 Sb., about the status of the national groups in the state. The law acknowledges, for the first time in the post-war history, the same rights for the German minority such as for the other national minorities living in the territory of the Czechoslovakia. The author studies activation of the members of the German minority for the purpose of formation of the cultural association. That was enabled just on the ground of the aforesaid constitutional law. This thesis deals with the issue of the German minority in the interwar Czechoslovakia as a factor of foreign policy of Germany. The aim is to analyse how German foreign policy misused this minority to expand his power. It will be also demonstrated which consequences this policy brought and how it affected the Czech-German relations to the present.
Coexistence of the Czech population the frontier with the German minority and development of their relations

This paper is an attempt at mapping how Czech ? German relations envolved in the border area nearby Český Krumlov. It is based on theories concerning the historical development of how Czech and German speakers have lived together since 13 to 21 century. The assessed theories concern the history of interaction between both nations living in border country - especially the events connected with coexistence, with the World Wars and with what happened immediately after World War II. The paper focuses on the changes in demographic structure and in the attitudes of both nations´citizens. The practical part is concentrated on the present ? day composition of border area population, current attitudes and opinions, family bonds, the ralationship between both nations, and the frequency of and reasons for cross ? border visits. It was the author´s aim to find out the Czech population´s attitude towards historical events that had an impact on today´s relations and to see how these attitudes have envolved in the light of what happened after World War II and after 1989.
Germans in the Czechoslovak Republic (1918-1929)

Czech-German relations are influenced by the long history of common age-old traditions and coexistence in the Habsburg monarchy. The work tries to capture the events following the collapse of the Habsburg Empire. It describes the creation of the Czechoslovak Republic, the first steps of political decision-making and their relation with the national question. Furthermore, trying to present the German minority in the territory and its reactions to events in the new republic. Large part of the author analyzes the Czechoslovak economy and contributing to this sphere by the German minority. In the end, the work brings the beginning of the economic crisis and its impact on the population of the Czechoslovak state. The work seeks to look dispassionately at the issues to one side. Is a further contribution to an important topic that is still important due to its proximity of the Czech and German nation. Goal of this thesis is to summarize the events of the first years of the Czechoslovak Republic. It tries to answer the question of how significant the contribution of the German minority to the development of new state was and how these issues were viewed from the Czech perspective.
