Methods of Addiction Treatment in Substance - Dependent Users Serving a Sentence of Imprisonment

The bachelor's thesis deals with addiction treatment effects in the execution of imprisonment from the point of view of convicts. In the theoretical part I describe the drug problem, I focus on the concept of addiction, types of drugs and addiction treatment outside prison. In the second part of the theoretical part, I pursue the execution of imprisonment and treatment in the execution of imprisonment. The practical part contains findings, whether the treatment in prisons is applied and beneficial for convicts. It describes the case studies of the people I interviewed and analyzed of the interviews was conducted, which are summarized in the discussion.
Halfway houses for people released from prison

The diploma thesis deals with the topic of a halfway house for persons released from prison. It is a specific target group of clients of this social residential service. The diploma thesis contains a theoretical and practical part. The first part describes the meaning of a halfway house, its the target group of clients, the role of social curator, the execution of imprisonment and the role of probation and mediation service. The aim of the thesis is to find out whether young offenders after release are interested in this social service. The practical part of the diploma thesis includes a structured interview with clients halfway houses in the Pilsen, Karlovy Vary and Central Bohemia regions. The interview consisted of 25 questions; the answers are sorted and presented in tables. From the results it can be concluded that young offenders are informed about this social residential service, but after release from prison they prefer another accommodation option. Their last choice is a to becoming a client of a halfway house, one of the reasons why can be the feeling of continued control over their lives such as in prison.
Resocialization of individuals in prison by education and employment

Resocialization of individuals based on the execution of a sentence is a very demanding process, which is not always successful. It is influenced by number of factors, such as personality, physical and mental condition, or family background. We, as social workers, must make a huge effort to strive for successful resocialization. We cannot influence the above-mentioned factors, but we should make great efforts to motivate the client, and employment with education can help us to do so. Firstly, prison was mentioned in the history, then individual terms were introduced, the Prison Service of the Czech Republic was described, the consequences of staying in prison was mentioned, the issue of resocialization of offenders from excluded localities was summarised and drug-free zones in prisons and treatment programs were described. The chapter on employment summarized this issue, current figures, specific examples and future plans of the Prison Service. The chapter on education introduced formal and non-formal education, educational opportunities for convicts, educational activities of non-governmental non-profit organizations and the educational function of clergy. Psychological aspects of the consequences of criminal activity in convicted men serving imprisonment

The aim of the diploma thesis is to describe the consequences of imprisonment from a psychological point of view and to compare it with the testimonies of convicts. Every convicted person who gets into a prison is exposed to psychological problems associated with imprisonment. These problems can be associated not only with pleading guilty and accepting a sentence connected with a commited crime but also with, a transition from civil life to life in prison, adaptating to life in prison, dealing with restriction of freedom and restrictions of contact with their loved ones and so on. The thesis has a theoretical part divided into three chapters, where data has been added from transcripts of interviews with four sentenced men. The first chapter focuses on the characteristics of serving imprisonment, including the functions and the purpose of imprisonment and on penitentiary psychology. The second chapter describes the adaptation of prisoners to imprisonment in view of the length and frequency of imprisonment as well as the personality of the convicted person. The third chapter focuses on the psychological aspects of imprisonment (the second life of prisoners, aggression, bullying, suicide, self-harm, abuse and use of narcotic and psychotropic substances, limiting social contacts). The aim of the diploma thesis is to describe the consequences of imprisonment from a psychological point of view and to compare it with data from interviews with sentenced persons.
