European parliament
Novotná, Eva ; Grmelová, Nicole (advisor) ; Šťastný, Tomáš (referee)
The European Parliament is the only body in the institutional structure of the European Union, which is directly elected by EU citizens. And due to the holding of direct elections the development of the role of Parliament unfolds itself. Before 1979 (year of the first direct election) Parliament was only an advisory body in the legislative process just only in a consultation procedure which represents the lowest turnout for the Parliament. After holding the elections, the agenda of the Community expanded gradually and this expanded the participation of Parliament. A major step forward was the introduction of other procedures, especially co-decision procedure, which in recent years, is displacing those remaining. Parliamentary position was strengthened by the allocation of control authority - as the appointment of the Ombudsman, the Commission censure, exploring messages from other EU institutions, and many other questions. Today it is an institution which is a full partner in the structure of the Union.

Hrnčířová, Lenka ; Němcová, Ingeborg (advisor) ; Karpová, Eva (referee)
The thesis is a study devoted to the changes of the Group of the European People's Party in the European Parliament (EPP) with focus on the situation after election in 2009. The main aim of the thesis is to find an answer to the question, whether the position of current EPP has been weaken after the election of 2009 and after the split of ED. This is reached through comparison current EPP's position with its position in legislative period 2004 -- 2009. In order to verify or to disprove this question we apply various points of view. First, we analyze historical development of political groups and their legal conditions. Afterwards, we deal with development of EPP Group to its current form and define its fundamental characteristics. The basis for the analysis of change of EPP's position after election in 2009 is the description of the EPP's situation after this election. We compare the position of EPP (EPP-ED) in both mentioned periods by means of four indicators (size, number of mandates, occupation of key posts, coherence and loyalty in voting and ability building coalitions). Resulting evaluation of single indicators provide us with the answer to the question, how the EPP's position has changed after election in 2009.

The Specific Features of the European Parliament's Role in the Decision-making Process of the European Union
Podskalská, Alena ; Klíma, Michal (advisor) ; Faturová, Marie (referee)
The European Parliament has become increasingly involved in the decision-making process of the European Union over the past years. Enhancing its powers does also mean an increase of its influence on the actual activities of the Union. With regard to the position of national parliaments, the EP still differs and doesn't achieve their importance in some areas. This thesis should describe the development of the European Parliament first and define its actual organisation, structure and position within the other institutions of the European Union. The main goal is to point out the moments, which make the Parliament different from the national parliaments.
