Myths and Reality - Facts and Fiction. Hussite hero, warrior and captain (hejtman) Jan Roháč of Dubá from the perspective of history and historical tales.
Fišera, Tadeáš ; Doležalová, Eva (advisor) ; Beneš, Zdeněk (referee)
Jan Roháč of Dubá was one of the last Hussite captains in the Lands of the Bohemian Crown, who rebelled against Holy Roman Emperor Sigismund of Luxembourg. The story of his life has become the subject matter for numerous historical and literary adaptations and other works of art. The primary objective of this thesis is not any further description of the historical events at the turn of the 15th century, but the description of changes in the second life of the Hussite captain's image from his death (1437) to the beginning of the 21st century. Not only does the idealization of Jan Roháč's personality as a loyal adherent to the radical Hussite right-wing Czech party line belong to this category but also the image of an experienced warrior participating in a series of Hussite battles and his exemplary execution are found in this section. In addition to the historical narrative sources, also fiction, poetry, period songs, theatre performances and film adaptations will be included in the thesis's background materials, for example a film made in 1947 by the director Vladimír Borský.

Title: The second life of Zdeněk Nejedlý in Czech historiography and culture Author: Mgr. Václav Nájemník Supervisor: doc. PhDr. Ivana Čornejová, Csc. Department: The History and History Didactics Department Keywords: Zdeněk Nejedlý, second life, methodology, reception, historiography, culture, communism, totalitarianism, literature, art, Bedřich Smetana, Alois Jirásek Abstract: The following dissertation deals with the "second life" of Czech historian, musicologist, reviewer and politician Zdeněk Nejedlý (1878-1962). Its aim is not to elaborate a new biography, but to describe and analyse the influence of this personality on Czech historiography and culture during the communist totalitarian system. His influence is usually perceived as very strong, but seems to have changed over time, and moreover weakened. An important topic will also be the development of the attitude of historians, writers and other cultural personalities to the personality and work of Zdeněk Nejedlý in the context of Czech history in the second half of the twentieth century. The purpose of the work is to show that the personality of Zdeněk Nejedlý is not the only negative factor that worked for society, but that he himself participated actively in the creation of this image. Finally, it also appears that the "second life" of some of...

Mikuláš Dačický of Heslov. Personality, Work and Afterlife Abstract On the basis of archival sources and relevant secondary literature, the thesis explores the life of Mikuláš Dačický of Heslov, one of the best-known Czech historical figures of the latter half of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th century. The work focuses on the social, political, economic, administrative, and religious circumstances in the royal city of Kutná Hora, with which Dačický's life was closely related. With a view to preserved period sources, it outlines and recapitulates the accessible information about the famous swashbuckler, rioter, ruffian, killer, and drunkard who was also a prolific chronicler, poet, an ardently religious armorial burgher with unswayable moral views, and an 'eyewitness to the Czech Renaissance'. The found facts are contrasted with the 'second life' (afterlife) of Mikuláš Dačický of Heslov which was provided for him by the novelists and dramatists of the 19th and 20th century. His character, and especially his temperament outraged the citizens of Kutná Hora and inspired many modern authors of plays and TV dramas, novels, film scripts, and musical works for the stage (operetta, opera, and musical). In the field of food industry and restaurant culture, some interesting examples of his name being...
