Jana Zátková (1859-1933). Forgotten personality in the History of South Bohemia?
BÍLKOVÁ, Klára
The thesis aims to provide a more comprehensive survey of life and public activities of Jana Zátková, a notable native of České Budějovice. She made her mark on the history of the town not only as a wife of August Zátka, the leader of the České Budějovice Czechs, but also through her activities for the Czech youth and mainly through building the first Czech girls´ lyceum, the very first one in Bohemia. The thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is focused on the history of both native families of Jana Zátková (i.e. the Strandl and Klavík families). The second chapter describes her family background, childhood and upbringing till the marriage with August Zátka. The marriage itself is described in the third chapter which also presents August Zátka´s family background and public activities as well as the life stories of their three children. The last but one chapter deals with public activities of Jana Zátková in a ladies´ society called Ludmila. The last fifth chapter deals with the final years of her life.

Petrbok, Václav ; Smyčka, Václav ; Turek, Matouš ; Nekula, M. ; Heimböckel, D. ; Weinberg, M. ; Budňák, Jan ; Futtera, Ladislav ; Horňáček, L. ; Hon, J. K.
A publication How to write a transcultural literary history? contains selected contributions from the international conference held on 15th - 16th November 2018 by the Group for Research on Czech-German Intercultural Relations in the Bohemian Lands in the Institute of Czech Literature of the ASCR. The conference focused on the theoretical and methodological issues of writing the history of several literary cultures in different languages that coexisted in the Bohemian lands. It includes contributions concerning medieval literary production, the exposed “long” 19th century to the first half of the 20th century, as well as a number of problem areas (translation, cultural transfer, periodization, multilingualism, canon, regionalism, confessionalism) and theoretical and methodological approaches (postcolonial studies, transcultural theory, new historicism). In addition to the scholarly intent, this collection also seeks to stimulate further debates on the form of future literary-historical synthesis of literatures of Bohemian Lands across disciplines - Czech studies, German studies and other philologies, as well as cultural science or social and political history.
Czech-German relations in České Budějovice in the early 20th century, in the light of České Budějovice´s German press (Českobudějovický pakt)
BESTREJKOVÁ, Romana
The thesis presented deals with the Czech-German relations. I focus my attention on the topic of Czech-German settlement in České Budějovice in the decades around the turn of the 19th century and 20th century. The period mentioned represented a significant part of Czech history and had its specific course in the South Bohemia and its capital. My work consists of six chapters. The first chapter provides an overall picture of life in České Budějovice within a given period, the second chapter describes the characteristics of the German-written press in České Budějovice and the third chapter informs about the relationship between Czechs and Germans living in České Budějovice at that time. The main part is devoted to political situation at the turn of the 19th and 20th century. The penultimate chapter concerns the development of Czech-German settlement and describes the steps leading to the establishment of the ČeskéBudějovice´s pact, which included modifications of national relations in the form of provincial law. In the sixth and also the last chapter I briefly mention the education system, which played important role in the history of České Budějovice. The conclusion summarizes the results of my research, followed by a list of sources, used literature and presentation of enclosures.
