Miocene fish fauna from the Cheb and Sokolov Basins: taxonomic overview and palaeoecology

The aim of this thesis is to present an overview of Miocene fish fauna of the lacustrine sediments in the Cheb and Sokolov Basins, geological settings of this area, and fish associations in individual biozones. Sediments of Cheb and Sokolov Basins were deposited during time interval from Eocene until Miocene in the subtropical zone of the North hemisphere. Volcanic and post-volcanic activities of the Ohárecký rift influenced development of these basins. It's possible define two time sections within development of these basins: early and later; both of them provide rich record of fossil fishes. For the early period of the development is typical smaller range of the lake and its shallow depth. The relicts of this stage are limited to Cheb Basin mainly. Fish fossil record is limited, with three species only: Esox sp., Palaeotinca egeriana and Leuciscus (Palaeoleuciscus) socoloviensis. Low fish diversity could have been affected by poor living conditions or lower taxonomic diversity in general during this time. The later developmental period was much longer. The lake was much bigger - it spread to Sokolov Basin also. The fish fauna diversity is much higher, including taxons Paleotinca egariana, Leuciscus (Palaeoleuciscus) socoloviensis, Aphanius chebianus, Paralebias egeranus and Gobius sp. It is...
History of vegetational development in the Cheb basin from sedimentary record of the SOOS National Nature Reserve

Vegetation development in the Cheb basin ( W Czech Republic) recorded in the sediments of the SOOS ational ature Reserve This thesis focuses on palaeoecological research of quaternary sediments in the Soos National Nature Reserve (Cheb basin, NW Czech Republic). Quaternary history of this locality is poorly known, despite it is a valuable and protected area with high natural qualities. The Soos basin is also known for its unique geological record, which is expected to cover information on landscape dynamics at least during the Holocene. A lake existed in the Soos basin enabling accumulation of diatomite and peat sediments of a broad palaeoecological potential. Records were analysed with method of pollen analysis and were dated using 14C. The results of this study bring information about vegetation development in the area of Cheb basin as well as development of lake ecosystem. It also gives a new insight on lake's origin and its age. The accumulation of peat sediments started in the Preboreal period and was continuous at least until the Atlantic following with a hiatus, therefore further detection of vegetation development is impossible. Relations of the carbon dioxide occurrence and geologic conditions of the Cheb basin

This bachelor thesis describes the area of the Cheb basin which is situated in the Western Bohemia, and shows the geological, tectonic, hydrogeological structure of this area. The main feature of the bachelor thesis is a CO2 emission in the Cheb basin, near the village Dolní Částkov but it also describes the occurrence of mineral waters in the vicinity of the chosen lokality. Furthermore, the bachelor thesis deals with the emanation of gases in groundwaters. The bachelor thesis describes the properties and occurrence of CO2. At the end of the bachelor thesis, there are results of my measurements in a regular network of points with a device Meopta DI-2 654-03, which serves for an air sampling and measures the concentration of CO2 expressed in percentages. Effect of CO2 production on the water level in a closed borehole

This thesis is focused on upper mantle originated carbon dioxide exhalations in the area of Western Bohemia, particularly Cheb basin. It describes local geology, current geodynamics, earthquake swarms and related issues. The thesis introduces a simple physical model of gas- water mixture behaviour in a closed borehole. The model was created using elementary physical principles and works as a tool for simplifying the description of events, which were registered at a monitoring borehole HJB-1 at Hartoušov site. Last part of the thesis includes data which were recorded for the verification of the model. These are presented and interpreted at the end of the thesis. Grounwater regime of the Cheb Basin

This study summarizes some general findings of geological, hydrogeological, hydrological, structural and other conditions of the Cheb tertiary basin and descrides how these conditions are connected with circulation of graoundwaters and with appearance of mineral waters of different chemical composition and appearance of discharge of dry CO2. The final chapter shows information of changes of groundwater level at specific locations and periods of time by analyzing data gathered from borehole monitoring site of Czech Hydrometeorological Institute. Measuring of groundwater level was taken every day or every week, also average data of every month were taken. These data show variant changes of groundwater level which can be associated with definite events and this study shows if it is possible to associate some changes of groundwater level with exact events.
