Schneiderová, Daniela ; Schöttner, Jan (advisor) ; Wittlich, Filip (referee)
This thesis examines a specific part of the Czech glass production from twenties to forties of the 19th century. It focuses specifically on the production of glassworks at Novohradsko in South Bohemia where the black and red hyalit glass was been made. Next it examines the works of glass technologist Bedřich Egermann in Polevsko and (Nový) Bor, where he rediscovered and implemented the production of glaze refined glass and also discovered and made the first lithyalin glass. These new made or rediscovered technological methods reflected the change of taste in the Biedermeier and Second Rococo era when the glass production in the Czech lands has reached world class. Not only that it could cope with current English and French production, but it surpassed them in many regards. Producing opaque and glazed glass was a significant deed that contributed to increasing the reputation of already great Czech glassmaking in this era. Landscape, settlements and monuments in Georg II. Buquoy’s diary from the italian journey in 1839 and 1840
Binder, Filip
The paper is dedicated to Count Georg II. Buquoy and his Italian journey of 1839 and 1840, which the text traces on the basis of the Count's letters addressed to his mother Gabriele, transcribed to form a travel diary. The text attempts to penetrate the thought-world of the aristocrat, who was 25 years old at the time of the journey, and examines how Buquoy reflected on the landscape, architecture, art and towns or the seats of nobility rulers during the expedition. The study also asks whether the information contained in Georg's correspondence, or rather in the letters of the aristocrat correlate with the results of recent historical and art historical research presenting Buquoy as an aristocrat whose romantic disposition was reflected in his activities, first of all in his artistic activities, documented by surviving sketchbooks, and also in the reconstruction of the castle in Rožmberk and the creation of the family museum there and alteration of the landscape parks founded by his ancestors. By analyzing the diary and the excerpts contained therein, it was possible to highlight the sentimental elements in the text of the count, who wrote his mother about the deep feelings and emotions that nature and visits to towns and monuments and seeing art works evoked in him. This also gives his lines an added literary value, since the Count was not trying to give his mother a mere description of what he had seen and visited, but to inform her of the movements of his mind and of the atmosphere of the various places he visited during his journey. The diary also confirms Buquoy's strong and positive relationship with art, architecture and nature, but points out its limits.
Buquoy aristocratic family, history and cultural legacy in Bohemia
Landová, Adéla ; Jančík, Jiří (advisor) ; Listíková, Renáta (referee)
1 Abstract The Buquoy aristocratic family is a branch of the Longueval family that has origins in current France. The Buquoys arrived in Lands of the Bohemian Crown during the thirty years' war when Charles Bonaventure was called in to fight Bohemian Protestants. Soon after, he received an estate in the Southern Bohemia from Ferdinand II where he and his descendants stayed nearly three and a half centuries. The Buquoys soon extended their opulent estates by Prague palaces and few regions in the North Bohemia. They contributed to advances in agriculture, glassblowing and in the area of social and scholar reforms. They were also engaged in politics and became important patrons of culture and arts. Nevertheless, the Buquoys suffered the same fate as other aristocratic families. In the beginning of the 19th century, they started losing their privileges and estates and, in 1945, they were expelled from Czechoslovakia based on Beneš decrees concerning retribution. The aim of this thesis is to point out the cultural legacy which Buquoys left behind in the current Czech Republic and to describe their overall contribution in particular areas. The thesis is divided into two chapters. The first chapter is dedicated to the general picture and to the history of aristocratic families in the Lands of the Bohemian Crown...

The Buquoy glass
KRÁTKÁ, Lenka
The theme of this work is the development of the glassmaking in the southern Bohemia´s domains of Buquoy´s genus. This work creates a complex view of an old French family, who came to the Czech land after 1620 and it illustrates its historical, social, economic and finally its art activities. Buquoys during two hundred years interlinked European and local experiences until they completely merged with the Czech culture. I deal with the genealogy of the Buquoys´s family in the introduction. A following chapter is devoted to the historical development of glassmaking in Novohradské hory´s area before Buquoys came to their domains in South Bohemia. I continue with a chronological description of every glassworks, acting on Novohradsko. The main part of my work I devote to the glass itself. Individual chapters deal with glass, which has been produced since the first half of 17th century until the half of 19th century. One of the subchapters is dedicated to hyalite glass, unique opaque glass, which contains the most significant one - the black hyalite. This dark enamel with a gloss surface has been created since 1817 in buquoy´s glassworks Jiříkovo Údolí and later in the glassworks Stříbrný Vrch. The production of red hyalite was introduced two years later. In conclusion of my work I remind even the semiprecious glass. A character of this glass is similar to noble nature materials, mostly marble or semi-gemstone. Typical sign of this glass is color, opacity and most of time, even the veined and marble structure of the surface. The main representatives are the lithyalins. In my work, there is also the subchapter about agathins, which used to remind the lithyans by shape and look, but during their creation were chosen different ways of working with glass because Earl Jiří František Buquoy didn´t want the imitation of the nature materials.
Life in memories (Presentation of the ancietry and the nobility of the Buquoys, the Czernins of Chudenice and the Schwarzenbergs)
RUDOVÁ, Hana
During the ``long{\crqq} 19th century, when the principle of nobility as such was in great danger, aristocrats wanted to demonstrate the importance of their family. To do so, they used various forms of the presentation: the appearance of rural residences, building family tombs and participation in exhibitions with historical themes. This thesis takes an interest in the forms of presentation of the nobility by three South-Bohemian noble families {--} Buquoys, Czernins of Chudenice and Schwarzenbergs. It focuses not only on the building activity of aristocrats and the visual representation of the ancientry and the nobility but also on the literary work of archivists and other forms of the presentation. In the 19th century the manors were redone in style of historicism, however, an important role was played by the proprietors themselves, their (artistic) hobbies and ideas about history. In some cases this thesis also uncovers the inspirations and motives that led (the members of the South-Bohemian aristocracy) to such demanding reconstructions.
