U.S.-China Cooperation During Six Party Talks
Hladíková, Kristýna ; Sehnálková, Jana (advisor) ; Bečka, Jan (referee)
This Master thesis deals with the Sino-American cooperation during the Six-Party Talks between 2003 and 2009 and it aims to analyze both the main interests and objectives, with which the US and China came in the negotiations, and the problematic issues between the US and China, most critically complicating a progress in the negotiations. Although both countries cordially declared common interest in denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, their real order of priorities within the Talks greatly differed. Contrary to the United States, China prioritized stability of the region to its denuclearization and was trying very hard to moderate the harsh US approach towards the DPRK's nuclear activities. In this way, it was, however, practically impossible to effectively force the North to abandon its nuclear program, which was something unconditionally demanded by the United States. What is more, the long-lasting political and strategic alliance between Beijing and Pyongyang considerably complicated the problem. In consequence, any statements or resolutions, which were adopted during the Talks, lacked sufficient strength and did not force North Korea to start dismantlement of its nuclear program. Thus, the US-China cooperation was not very fruitful. Based on these findings, the thesis concludes that the...
U.S. - Chinese relations during Obama's first term: 2009-12.
Michaláková, Markéta ; Bečka, Jan (advisor) ; Sehnálková, Jana (referee)
Obama's administration approach towards People Republic of China (PRC) has changed during its first term from a very benevolent view to a tougher line. At first Obama used a concept, which had been established during the Bush administration - concept of viewing China as a "responsible stakeholder". This concept portrayed China as a country responsible towards international system. Later Obama's administration introduced a concept of "pivot to Asia", which deepened American engagement in the region and which should have posed a counterweight to Chinese growing influence in this area. The main purpose of this thesis is to describe and analyze foreign policy concepts of Obama's administration towards PRC as well as description and analysis of Chinese foreign political concepts (peaceful development and harmonious world). The next part of this paper focuses on analysis of two aspects of relations between these two countries: diplomatic relations and human rights issues, which both prove the assumption that Obama's approach towards PRC has changed during his first term in office.

Kofroňová, Jana ; Sehnálková, Jana (advisor) ; Hornát, Jan (referee)
Main purpose of the bachelor thesis is to examine and analyse relations between United States of America and People's Republic of China during the administration of President Gerald Ford and to list reasons why the Ford administration was not able to establish official diplomatic relations with People's Republic of China. The thesis is divided into three sections. First, the thesis discusses historical background of U.S.-Chinese relations mainly during Richard Nixon's presidency. Afterwards the thesis analyses relations between United States of America and People's Republic of China during the administration of President Ford. Finally, the thesis examines actions of Jimmy Carter's administration which preceded to establishing official diplomatic relations between United States of America and People's republic of China. The thesis concludes that there were multiple reasons why the Ford administration was not able to establish U.S.-Chinese relations during his presidency. The main reason was that the United States had diplomatic relations with the Republic of China. Other reason was that the Chinese were adamant about their demands toward the United States. Final reason was that there was unfavourable political situation in the United States and also in the People's Republic of China.

U.S.-China Relations In the Post-Bipolar World
Šrámek, Petr ; Matějka, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Knotková, Vladimíra (referee)
In my thesis, I analyze the foreign policy of George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama in 1989-2010. Upon comparing their China policies, I concluded that the approach of the United States to China is inconsistent, mainly due to the changing patterns of power, conflicting value systems and the growing importance of commercial interests in the relationship.
