Expression of cholinergic gene locus in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease
Zimčík, Pavel ; Doležal, Vladimír (advisor) ; Teisinger, Jan (referee)
(anglický jazyk) The most common senile dementia, Alzheimer disease (AD), is characterized by a decline of memory and high cognitive functions. Typical post-mortem brain lesions are extracellular amyloid deposits, intracellular neurofibrilary tangles and ruined cholinergic and other neurotransmitters systems. Connection between damaged central cholinergic system and beta-amyloid accumulation remains obscure. We examined parietal cortex of young adult (7- month-old) female APPswe/PS1dE9 double transgenic mice which develope beta-amyloid fragments at high rate. Cholinergic synapses of these mice demonstrate functional presynaptic (stimulated acetylcholine release) as well as postsynaptic (muscarinic receptor-induced G- protein activation) deficits and reduction of cholinergic markers. The mRNA levels of choline acetyltransferase, vesicular acetylcholine transporter and M1 to M4 subtypes of muscarinic receptors were determined in transgenic and littermate controls using qPCR. Obtained experimental data does not show any changes in measured mRNA levels. These observations indicate that reduction of cholinergic synaptic markers and function is due to posttranscriptional events.
Assessment of activities of daily living in patients with Alzheimer disease in clinical practice
Martínek, Pavel ; Bartoš, Aleš (advisor)
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a very frequent disorder. There are about 150 thousand people living with AD in the Czech Republic. The diagnostic criteria require not only the evaluation of cognitive abilities (e.g. memory), but also the activities of daily living (ADL). The aim of this thesis is to describe the concept of ADL and to provide the information about its assessment in the patients with AD. It also describes the scales for ADL assessment available in the Czech Republic and abroad. The assessment of ADL is useful for the diagnosis of AD and its prodromal stages, for the evaluation of treatment effects or disease progression, for its staging, to estimate the caregiver burden, and for other purposes. The best way to assess ADL in the clinical setting is the administration of structured questionnaires to the caregiver of the patient. The thesis provides a list of 14 ADL questionnaires and a brief information about each of them. Together with my tutor, we have translated three ADL scales (FAQ-CZ, DAD-CZ and BADLS-CZ) into Czech language during my student scientific activity. These scales were given to 47 caregivers of the patients with clinical probable AD according to NINCDS-ADRDA criteria. The cognitive abilities of the patients were measured with the Mini-Mental State Examination. It proved to be...

The impact of population ageing on the need for social care service in Vsetín district to 2030
Fojtů, Sára ; Antovová, Michaela (advisor) ; Dotlačilová, Petra (referee)
Europe's population is aging and this fact is reflected in the need to adapt the structure of social services in Europe, the Czech Republic and the regions. This thesis considers the need for social care services for seniors in district Vsetín due to population aging. Special attention is given to persons suffering from Alzheimer's disease or another type of dementia, since the occurence of these diseases increases with age. The main objective of this thesis is to analyze the current situation in the region and based on the data and population projections estimate the need for social care services in the future. District Vsetín has a higher proportion of seniors than most of the Czech Republic, which places bigger demands on the range of social care services for the elderly, and into the future, we expect a further increase in these claims.
The figure drawing and people with Alzheimer's disease
BALOUNOVÁ, Kateřina
The bachelor thesis deals with the typical characters of a figure drawing of people with Alzheimer's disease. The theoretical part deals with the aging in general, and with the changes that occur in older age. Furthermore, the work deals with dementia as one of the most common roots of Alzheimer's disease, which is described and studied in greater detail. The work describes its general characteristics, causes, occurrence and with the changes in the brain caused by the disease. Moreover, it also defines the stages and the main characters of the illness. The work looks briefly at the drawing and its development, a figure drawing and colours in drawing. The practical part of the bachelor thesis is devoted to the analysis of the signs in 26 drawings drawn by seniors with Alzheimer's disease and compares them with the drawings created by non-diagnosed persons over 65. These characters are also divided into the groups according to the Mini-Mental State Examination test. The drawings created by the informants are attached to the study
The significance of self-helping groups in caregiving for clients with the Alzheimer's disease
KOUŘILOVÁ, Milena
Alzheimer´s dementia is a neurodegenerative disease which leads to a decline of some populations of neurons and as a result of this to brain atrophy. This results in the formation of dementia syndrome. With respect to the aging population, the issue of neurodegenerative diseases is also more and more important. The objective of the thesis was to monitor if carers for the person with Alzheimer´s dementia have information about the self-help group and to monitor the need of carers for the establishment of a self-help group in South Bohemia region. A qualitative method of research was used. The data was gained by a method of semi-standardized interview. From the research is clear that only two carers out of six have certain information about a self-help group.Another part of the research was to monitor the need of carers for people with Alzheimer´s disease for establishing a self-help group in the South-Bohemian region. The gained results inform about the fact that the information of carers about the self-help groups is very low and they would welcome the establishment of a self-help group in South-Bohemian region. The results of this thesis can be used as the information source for the Czech Alzheimer Society and can be a stimulus for opening a self-help group in the South-Bohemian region.

JENŠOVSKÝ, JIŘÍ. Bachelor's thesis with the title ?Christian principles in social work? University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice. Faculty of theology. Department for practical theology. Thesis supervisor: Dr. Ing. Křišťan Alois, Th.D. The first part of the thesis is focused on the possibility of decrease of the stress impact on the client after his/her arrival into the stationary social facility. It offers possibilities to believing and not believing employees of the facility how to find the way to the client, to recognize his needs and to try to comply with them. In the second part of the thesis I focus on the activities as basal stimulation, sense activation and ergo-therapy. I present these job activities as an additional possibility how to find out the information about the client and how to develop the relationships of the employee in the social services or a trained therapist to the client. In the third part, I investigate by observing with participation the development of the relationship of two believing clients to the believing and not believing social employees. The research deals with reactions of clients in particular daily situations on employee in social services (believing and not believing). The research examines and records acting of the observed clients in various types of mood, during health problems, depression or also in good mood. It tries to present as real picture of acting the observed clients as possible in contact with belief and non-belief of the social employee.
