The specifics of nursing care of a patient with an inserted PICC - awareness of nurses
Vaňková, Kateřina ; Hromádková, Jaroslava (advisor) ; Tomová, Šárka (referee)
This bachelor's thesis discusses the treatment of PICC catheters. The theoretical part of the thesis provides comprehensive information about the PICC catheter and about the specifics of care for patients with an inserted PICC. The thesis mainly focuses on the treatment of this access under aseptic conditions in order to prevent catheter infection, where the correct procedure of the nurse is important. At the same time, the goal is for the provided information to agree with the current recommendations of national and international companies involved in creating educational resources to treat long-term vascular accesses. The aim of the empirical part of this bachelor's thesis is to obtain information about nurses' knowledge on treating PICC catheters through quantitative research. Data collection was conducted in a selected hospital using self-designed questionnaires. The questionnaire consists of 25 questions, of which 14 questions are used to verify knowledge of the given topic. 150 questionnaires were distributed and 109 questionnaires were returned for analysis. Based on the results of the questionnaire, a simple manual with pictograms was created and is available at the end of the thesis. This manual is designed to help nurses who may not regularly encounter PICC catheters, guiding them in...
Nursing care of a patient with an inserted Midline catheter and mini-midline - nurses' awareness
Dau, Tra My ; Hromádková, Jaroslava (advisor) ; Tomová, Šárka (referee)
Aim: The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to analyze and explore the nurses' knowledge of the nursing care of the pediatric patient with an inserted Midline and mini-midline catheter. Through a questionnaire survey to find out the level of nurse's knowledge regarding Midline and mini-midline catheters and their nursing practices. The theoretical section discusses midline venous access and its classifications, specifically Midline, mini-Midline and PICC catheters including their indications, contraindications, insertion procedures, complications and extractions. It also discusses the nursing care of these midline venous accesses. The last section concludes with the PICC team, nurse competencies, and certified courses. Methods: The empirical part of the thesis includes data collected through a self-constructed questionnaire survey. The data obtained are presented in sectional diagrams and summary tables. They are then processed using Chi-squared test and then compared with the hypotheses focusing on age, length of experience and completion of specialty education. The questionnaires were distributed in printed form to nurses working in paediatric inpatient wards at the University Hospital in Motol and the University Hospital Lochotín. A total of 100 questionnaires were distributed, of which a total of...
Application of chemotherapy with use of elastomeric infusors
JANOŠŤÁKOVÁ, Kateřina
Current situation: Oncology is a branch of medicine that focuses on research, diagnosis and treatment of the tumour disease. This Bachelor thesis looks into application of chemotherapy using the elastomeric infusor. The theoretical part focuses on tumour diagnosis, oncology treatment, undesirable side effects of chemotherapy, venous cannulations in oncology, and on the elastomeric infusor. Objectives of the thesis: 1. To learn about practical experience of medical staff with care of patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment using elastomeric infusors. 2. To learn about the role of nurses who take care of patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment using elastomeric infusors. 3. To learn about experience of patients with chemotherapy treatment using elastomeric infusors. Methodology: The survey method and the technique of data collection in form of a half-structured interview were used in the research part of the Bachelor thesis, and the informants were selected deliberately. Analysis of the collected data was processed using the pencil-paper method, the so called coding. Research group: The research group consisted of 4 doctors and 6 nurses who work at oncology wards, and 4 patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment using elastomeric infusion. Results of the thesis: The results affirm good experience of informants with the elastomeric infusor. The medical staff apply this form of treatment several times a week and it is only possible to be applied into the port or the PICC. Patients are instructed about manipulation with the infusor. They are content that they can spend the time while using the infusor in the domestic environment. The nurse applies the treatment and when the application is finished, she disconnects the infusor. The nurse covers and fixates the needle to the port. Documentary evidence of each needle insertion into the port is provided in a special notebook. The needle mark is observed by the nurse and after the application, the port is flushed with solution in accordance with the practice of the ward. Practical use: The results collected in the research survey can be used as the potential study material for nurses in clinical practice and for students of nursing care.
Problematics in Nursing Care of Venous Catheters
CHMELÍČKOVÁ, Anna
The aim of this thesis, Problematics in Nursring Care of Venous Catheters, is to map and create a material for informational and studying purposes in caring of venous catheter. The first goal was to focus on venous catheters. The chosen ones were central venous catheters and peripheral bloodstrem catheters and in both cases were chosen its representatives and were described. More detailed were described nursing care of venous catheters and then single aspects in nursering care of specific catheters. Important to mention is sharing information and new ways of applying venous catheters like Peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) and intravenous port, both inserted into central venous and Midline catheter, which is in the group of peripherally inserted ones. The rest of the thesis was focused on the main aim of this paper - Problematics in Nursering Care of Venous Catheters where the first part was concerned with describing the biggest problems, like for instance, catheter infection including infectious flebidities and catheter related bloodsterm infections. These complications were described thoroughly with corresponding impacts for both the patient and health service provider. Catheter infection is a complication which nurses can easily prevent, because the prevention of this problem is to hold up to the standard of barrier nursing care, strict aseptic rules and/or awareness of nursing staff and patients about this problematic. The amount of risk of inserted venous catheters is always present. Therefore, the intend and main focus of this thesis is to take in consideration potential risks and complications while not using the mentioned preventive measures and moreover discussion on the importance of prevention associated with nursing care of venous catheters. Information about venous catheters, their attendance and nursing intravenous catheters were found in academic papers, database PUBMED, academic reviews, Bulletin Ministry of Healthcare, nursing standards, Clinical Practice Guidelines and on website of Association for intravenous ports and permanent catheters.
