Prague underworld and its image in the mass culture between the world wars

Pražská galerka a její obraz v masové kultuře mezi světovými válkami Anna Jagošová Abstract This diploma thesis deals with the issue of the phenomenon of the so-called Prague galerka. This thesis tries to answer the questions of how the Prague galerka was perceived by the public at that time, how this group perceived itself and who belonged to it. This issue is examined through the mass media - film, periodicals, through the prism of police commissioners and their memories, and if possible due to the materials obtained, also through the prism of individual members of the Prague galerka. In the theoretical part, it is defined what the Prague galerka is, what are its significant features and who is part of it. The practical part mainly works with film, periodicals and commemorative monographs as sources and documents of the time. The location being monitored is Prague, and the topic of the work is defined primarily by the period between the world wars.
