RNDr. Martin Košťák, Ph.D. Abstract: This master thesis provides an updated taxonomic inventory of the bivalve fauna of the Pecínov locality, places the fauna in its palaeobiogeographic setting, and addresses its palaeoecological significance. In the literature research part of the thesis the basic geology of the locality and an overview of the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin are presented. Processes connected to the ocean anoxic events, specifically to the OAE 2 are also discussed. The research part of the thesis describes the systematics of the bivalve assemblage (with the exception of Inoceramidae) and its statistical evaluation with the emphasis on the environment interpretations of the locality. In total, over 350 specimens have been considered and assigned to 20 genera within 15 families and 9 orders. Bivalve functional morphology and guilds are described to interpret palaeoecology. Short-term cyclic paleoenvironmental variations in Middle Turonian hemipelagic deposits, Bohemian Cretaceous Basin

The sedimentary record of the Turonian substage (Upper Cretaceous) offers an opportunity to examine climatic variations in a time of peak greenhouse climate. In the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin, recent cyclostratigraphic studies examined the cyclic variations of sedimentary environments of the Lower and Upper Turonian, while the cyclostratigraphy of the Middle Turonian substage has remained less understood. This thesis applied methods of spectral analysis to well logs and elemental composition data from several boreholes located in the central part of the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin, in order to better understand the environmental variations of the Middle Turonian substage and their possible astronomical forcing. A short eccentricity (~100 kyr) signature has been found in well log data, as well as the carbonate content of the Bch-1 borehole section and correlated over more than 20 km within the study area. Biogenic carbonate production is considered to be the cause of astronomically controlled cyclicity in content of Ca (proxy for CaCO3). Surface and ground water of the Libický floodplain forest

In the Quaternary, the area of the Libický floodplain forest was shaped mostly by the action of the Elbe river. The river generated a structure of oxbow lakes, pools, wetlands, floodplain forests or wet grasslands. These are connected by shallow groundwater of the Quaternary aquifer. During the Upper Cretaceous period, the area of Libický forest was flooded by the sea, which resulted in the formation of the bedrock of Libický forest - now the Cenomanian aquifer of the Poděbrady mineral spring structure. This aquifer is part of the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin. This thesis provides an overview about the waters in the area of the Libický forest, especially about: the development of the structures of surface water during the last ~2k years, groundwater of the quaternary aquifer and mineral water of the Poděbrady mineral spring structure. Finally, this thesis contextualizes this knowledge into climatic, geological, pedologic and also to ecological conditions of the area of Libický luh which is an important ecosystem in terms of biodiversity in otherwise relatively densely populated agricultural landscape. Crustacea (Decapoda, Cirripedia) from the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin

This thesis deals with systematic revision, evolutionary trends, palaeoecology and migration patterns of crustaceans (Cirripedia and Decapoda) from the Upper Cretaceous of the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin. Thesis is presented as a compilation of 9 papers that were published in scientific peer-reviewed journals and includes not only old museum material, but also numerous crustacean specimens which have been recovered in the last decade. Besides, short remarks on fossil crustaceans currently under study or in the process of being published (Paraclythia, Oncopareia, Acrothoracica) are also included in this thesis. In view of the fact that the fossil crustaceans from the BCB were most recently recorded in the turn of the 19th and the 20th centuries (and partially revised in the first half of the 20th century) and since the systematics and taxonomy have changed significantly, all papers presented here focus primarily on systematic revision and modern description. The essential part of the thesis thus deals with taphonomy and its bearing on the identification of fossil material. Radiolaria of the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin

The first part of work deals with cell structure, shell morphology, reproduction and nutrition. Also the ecology and systematical subdivision of radiolarians are described here. The systematical subdivision depends on differences in shell morphology of individual forms. The next part is devoted to Cretaceous radiolarians with focus on Cenomanian and Turonian ones, also some examples from several locations around the world is located here. The last part of this work deals with geology of Bohemian Cretaceous Basin, where the study of radiolarians from certain site will continue in master thesis.
Foraminifera of the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin

The thesis deals in the compilation part with systematic classification, biology, morphology of the test, ecology and palaeoecology of the Foraminifera. Next research focuses on the history of Cretaceous Foraminifera in our area and the geology of the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin, focusing on Úpohlavy site in the northwestern part of the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin. Three samples from Úpohlavy section were preliminary micropaleontologically analysed. Plankton / bentos ratio was counted. Upper Turonian and lower Coniacian calcareous nannoplankton stratigraphy in the borehole V 800 Střeleč, Bohemian Cretaceous Basin

Upper Turonian and Lower Coniacian calcareous nannoplankton stratigraphy in the borehole V 800 Střeleč, Bohemian Cretaceous Basin Number of biostratigraphic studies has been performed within the Upper Cretaceous platform sediments of the NW Europe, however, the problem of Turonian-Coniacan boundary has not yet been satisfactorily resolved using available methods in the field of micropaleontology. The proposed thesis has described the species composition of calcareous nannoplankton assemblages in the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin, across the Upper Turonian- Lower Coniacian interval, focusing on the stratigraphically and paleoecologically important species. Seventy-three taxa of calcareous nannofossils in the studied material have been determined and signifiant species have been discussed (Marthasterites furcatus, Kamptnerius magnificus, Lucianorhabdus sp., Braarudosphaera sp., Nannoconus sp., Watznaueria barnesae, Uniplanarius gothicus, Quadrum gartneri, Thoracosphaera operculata). For purposes of this thesis, a suitable material from the V 800 Střeleč borehole, one of the key cretaceous profil in the Český ráj area, was obtained.
The record of sea-level changes, water circulation and sediment dispersion in the Upper Turonian hemipelagic strata of the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin

The Bohemian Cretaceous Basin was a sediment accumulation, which was deposited as an integral part of the central European epicontinental sea during the Late Cretaceous sea level highstand. It acted as a marine strait and was suited for preserving both nearshore coarse- clastic successions and hemipelagic deposits, allowing for the study of interplay between tectonics, eustatic sea level and paleoceanographic conditions. While the north-western part of the basin was extensively studied in the recent years, little information has yet been collected about the coeval along-shore environments. This thesis is aimed at bringing a new insight into these fine-grained deposits through a detailed lithological, multiproxy and time-series analysis investigation of the Late Turonian record in the Bch-1 drill core, Běchary, Czech Republic. The secular onset of carbonate-rich hemipelagic sedimentation coeval to the base of Teplice Formation is characterised by increased micrite content and changes in geochemical proxies, which are interpreted as changes in the pathway of clay distribution and silt source proximity, combined with elevated bioproductivity. Association of Turonian echinoids at the Nebužely locality (Bohemian Cretaceous Basin)

This diploma thesis is focused on morphological studies and taxonomic analyses of small regular and irregular echinoids found at the Nebužely locality; at this locality clastic sediments of Teplice Formation of Bohemian Cretaceous Basin are exposed. Presence of the belemnite Praeaxtinocamax bohemicus makes possible to assign the outcrop to late Turonian. Detailed morphological study of more than one hundred specimens enabled to distinguish four echinoids species (Echinogalerus, Glyphocyphus, Nucleolites, Phymosoma), less favourably preserved and/or very limited material is classified as belonging to two orders (Cidaroida, Holectypoida) and one family (Phymosomatidae), respectively. The next part of the thesis contains a possible palaeoecological reconstruction of the environment at the studied locality. Rudist assemblages of the Upper Cretaceous "pocket" infills in the Teplice rhyolite - systeamtics, palaeoecology, stratigraphy

The study (MS, diploma thesis) is based on more than 1500 rudist samples from the Upper Cretaceous sediments of localities Písečný vrch and Na Stínadlech (near Teplice). Investigated samples come mainly from the collection of A. H. Fassel and were collected at the end of the 19th century, currently stored in the Regional museum in Teplice and National museum in Prague. The rudist shells were determined by generic and species levels, including five genera and eight species. The stratigraphic age of both localities has been a subject of discussion since the second half of the 19th century. In the recent decades, the opinion on the lower turonian age prevailed. However, five of the eight species present in the studied localities demonstrate the upper cenomanian age of the assemblages, making them probably the oldest known rudist-corals assemblages of its kind. The palaeoecological analysis and the ecological relationships proposal for the studied localities is based on the research in literature on palaeoecology and evolution of the rudists, also presented in the study.
