Genitive in Russian and Czech in a comparative perspective

This bachelor thesis deals with occurrences and functions of the genitive case in the Czech and Russian languages. The aim of this study is to describe the occurrence and functions of the genitive case in original Russian texts, original Czech texts and Czech translations. The main goal of this thesis is to find out whether the occurrence of the genitive case in Czech texts is influenced by the original Russian texts. The theoretical part of this thesis offers the description of the genitive case and its functions in both languages with a more detailed description of partitive and negative functions of the genitive case. The practical part of this thesis compares original Russian texts with Czech translations using parallel corpus InterCorp. Furthermore, the practical part investigates the occurrence of the genitive case in Czech texts in the SYN2020 corpus. In conclusion, the thesis gives a summary of the data obtained from the provided corpus-based analysis and some recommendations for future research. This bachelor thesis deals with occurrences and functions of the genitive case in Czech and Russian languages. The aim of this study is to describe the occurrence and functions of the genitive case in original Russian texts and their Czech translations. It also points out the frequency of the genitive case in original Czech texts. The main goal of this thesis is to find out whether the occurrence of the genitive case in Czech texts changes over time and whether the original Russian texts have any influence on their Czech translations. The theoretical part of this thesis offers the description of the genitive case and its functions in both languages with a more detailed description of partial and negative functions of the genitive case. The practical part of this thesis compares original Russian texts with their Czech translations using parallel corpus InterCorp. Furthermore, the practical part researches the occurrence of the genitive case in Czech texts in the SYN2020 corpus. This part also examines the genitive case in the Czech language from a diachronic perspective using diachronic corpus (diachronic part of SyD corpus). Textual equivalency of selected Polish adjectives: corpus-based analysis

This bachelor thesis deals with textual equivalence of selected Polish adjectives (lichy, bezcenny, pozostały, konieczny and ostatni). Chosen adjectives are also sneaky words (so- called false friend - faux amis), which have their similar-sounding counterpart in Czech. This thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. In the theoretical part, significant space is devoted to the concept of equivalence and literature, which deals with this topic. Afterwards, the concept of false friends is specified, especially in Czech and Polish. Next passage deals with corpora, it also focuses on advanteges of corpus in comparisonto dictionary. The aim of the analytical part is to find out the current state of Czech translation equivalentsthat are not always described in the dictionary. Therefore, dictionary equivalence is compared with textual equivalence. The subcorpus of the parallel corpus InterCorp v14 is used as a source of texts. It contains original Polish texts and their Czech translations. In the conclusion of the thesis, the results proceed from the corpus material analysis are summarized. Lucie Lukešová, Ph.D. Abstract: Recently, we have experienced a rapid development in information technologies which is closely linked with the development of language corpora. Language corpora provide an indispensable amount of authentic data and information about how the real language works, therefore it is no wonder they deserve our attention in language teaching as well. We have seen a growing interest in the use of corpus resources in teaching Czech as a foreign language, however, the methodological issues dealing with specific applications have so far been rather neglected. Therefore, the present dissertation aims to systematically map the possibilities of incorporating corpora into current language teaching while considering the specific language needs of foreigners based on their typical errors. The emphasis is not only on a coherent methodological framework, but also on a practical demonstration of the work with corpus data, which is intended not only for corpus specialists but especially for teachers and their students.
