Tato disertační práce analyzuje vztah mezi Osmanskou říší a ostatními velmocemi na pozadí politického vývoje východní otázky během eskalace napětí v oblasti Peloponnésu1. Primárním cílem je zmapovat vývoj řeckého konfliktu a politiku Rakouska v Orientu během nesnadného vývoje budoucího řeckého státu, vliv evropských velmocí na tento problém a rozpory mezi jednotlivými velmocemi během řešení řeckého konfliktu. Sekundárním cílem je potom konkrétněji analyzovat činnost Antona Prokesche von Osten, diplomata a cestovatele, jako jednoho z nemnoha rakouských diplomatů epochy devatenáctého století, který úspěšně prosazoval rakouskou politiku v Orientu jak v době před Krymskou válkou, tak v následujícím půlstoletí, kdy byla monarchie přinucena hledat nové spojence náhradou za ztracené spojenectví ruského impéria.

The British in India in the Era of Richard Wellesley (1798-1805)

(English): The British India evolved significantly during the administration of governor-general Richard Wellesley. The primary objective of this Master's thesis is to analyze this imporant period of Indian history. The two most important conflicts of this period will be outlined - the last war with Tippu Sultan and the fairly complex Maratha Confederacy conflict started by the signing of the Treaty of Vassai, which is considered as very important milestone of the British rule in India. The thesis will also analyze the british policy of subsidiary alliances, which was applied to indigenous rulers.

Relations between Brandenburg and Sweden during years 1660 - 1701

- The thesis is focused on relations between Sweden and Brandenburg in the years 1660 - 1701. Although Sweden is considered as an empire practically all over the 17th century, a new, important power rises in its neighbourhood, namely Brandenburg-Prussia, and this rise is finished by the Royal coronation of Fredrick I in 1701. Main part of the thesis is dedicated to the political and military relations, less to the cultural relations. Even other countries, following and protecting their interests in the Baltic region, are taken into account, especially Denmark and France. The aim of the thesis is to analyse relations between Sweden and Brandenburg and to try to find an answer on the question, if Sweden's focus on its internal problems and reforms contributed to the rise of Prussia or if there is no direct connection between these two tendencies. Portuguese attempt to settle Sri Lanka (1580-1630)

This thesis deals with the Portuguese attempt to settle Sri Lanka in the period between 1580-1630. It analyses, at first, the origin of the colonization project which was a product of the transformation of the character of the Portuguese influence on the island in the transition of 16th and 17th centuries. This character has been changed from commerce oriented on conquest-oriented. At second, it finds the causes of decisive failure of Portuguese and their evaluation. It attempts to contextualize the events within the scope of Portuguese policy in Sri Lanka and within the overall context of the Portuguese expansion in the East. The events outside of the island were immensely important for the development in Sri Lanka because they contribute to the formation of military and political concepts as well as to take of specific decisions. In Sri Lanka, the Portuguese traded since 1506 when they for the first time stood on its shore, but, during the 16th century, they have been still more involved in the local political situation on the part of the Kingdom of Kotte. Finally, during the 80's and 90's of the 16th century, they decided to control the island.
