Kolář, Vojtěch ; Vopatrný, Gorazd Josef (advisor) ; Luptáková, Marina (referee)
Russian Palestine Diploma thesis Vojtěch Kolář Praha 2013 Abstract This diploma thesis entitled "The Russian Palestine" deals with activities of the Russian Orthodox Church and Russian diplomatic corps designed to help Russian pilgrims to the holy places in Palestine as well as local Orthodox believers in the Levant in the 19th and beginning of 20th century. These activities were accompanied by considerable tension not only between Russian activists in Palestine and in Russia, but also in their encounters with Greek hierarchy in Jerusalem and Constantinople as well as with Western diplomats and missionaries pursuing Catholic and Protestant interests in the same area. The aim of this thesis is to offer an insight into motivations, ways and results of their activities in Palestine and to call attention to the difficulties they were facing. This work is neither an apology nor a criticism of either of the instruments of Russian influence - the Russian Orthodox Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem (since 1847) and Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society (since 1882) respectively. Because of the broadness of the subject it was not always possible to follow strict historiographic methods. Therefore this thesis is concerned mostly with biographical material of some of the most influential Russian personalities of the...

The orthodox psychotheraps (The Another Aproach To Man)
Hempl, Jiří ; Luptáková, Marina (advisor) ; Vopatrný, Gorazd Josef (referee)
(Annotation) This thesis compares the orthodox approach to man to psychotherapeutics, especially with psychoanalysis, analytic psychology and logoterapy. These systems arise from positivistic backgrounds and approaches to man in this direction. In opposite to psychoanalysis analytic psychology and logoterapy think about spiritual aspect in life of man, but both systems mostly psychologize this aspect. The orthodox psychotherapy especially works with this spiritual aspect. It comes out from patristic anthropology referring that man is God's creature according to Genesis. The spirit aspect plays the cardinal role in the relationship between man and God. This relationship was corrupted by the rebellion of man against God. This rebellion has changed the ontological nature of man. According to the orthodox psychotherapy mental disorders are a result from this ontological change of man, which characterized by "garment of skin" done by God for man to revive in fallen state. The solution of mental disorders and then spiritual problems is to accept the state of "garments of skill" and in renewing of relationship with God.

The Coptic Church in Egypt
Sternbergová, Petra ; Vopatrný, Gorazd Josef (advisor) ; Kropáček, Luboš (referee)
In her thesis, the author deals with selected issues related to the Coptic Church in Egypt. The research is based on the theoretical background consisting of works written by coptologists as well as historical works focusing on Byzantium, and dogmatic theology, too. At the beginning, the treatise explains who is considered to be Copt, and the thesis is not lacking in characteristics of the Coptic language either. The description of the origins of Christianity in Egypt and the period from the 4th to 7th centuries, rendered in detail, when, among other things, the Egyptian Christians split up with Orthodoxy and the Egyptian National Church called the Coptic Church was established, is followed by a brief history of the Coptic Church from the 7th to 20th centuries. Information on the origins of monasticism in Egypt and individual outstanding personalities of the desert is concentrated in the descriptions of selected monastic locations such as Nitria, Kellia, Scetis, the Eastern Deserts and the area of Thebaid. The outline of the Coptic revival in the 20th century offers an insight into the life of the Coptic Church, and the very end of the thesis briefly deals with the interaction of the Chalcedonian and non-Chalcedonian churches.
