The Settlement from the Site U silnice (Plaňany, District Kolín) in Context of the Surrounding Settlements of Roman Period

This thesis presents archaeological finds from the site "U silnice", in municipality Plaňany (district Kolín), where a settlement from roman period has been found during excavations in 2016 and 2017. An assemblage of excavated finds consists mostly of ceramic, animal bones and daub. The aim of the thesis is to describe qualitative and quantitative attributes of these finds. Results will be used to validate and compare properties of individual archaeological contexts. Main goal is to place the site into regional network of settlements and cemeteries from roman period. Potential of the site rises from the fact that it is the only settlement from roman period excavated by modern methods in the region and therefore it represents a valuable source of new information. Biographical study of Jan Železný's sports career

Title: Biographical Study ofJan Železný's Sports Career Student: Jan Volf Supervisor: PhDr. Aleš Kaplan, Ph.D. Aim: To monitor, describe and evaluate a course of sports career ofJan Železný within a biographical study Methods: This diploma thesis consists of4 main steps. At first I had to process all newspaper articles within last 20years concerning Jan Železný. I used a newspaper called Mladá Fronta (later renamed MF Dnes) as my main and only source. I processed number of articles published each year, categorized them according to set criteria and traced a frequency ofvarious journalists reporting on Jan Železný during last 20 years. Secondly, I processed atletic career ofJan Železný in particular years and Jan Železný added a brief commentary on each year. Thirdly, I focused on processing Železný's replies made during our accurately driven conversation. Finally, I worked out a detailed surnmary ofJan Železný's biggest sports successes and peďormances. Results: In this diploma thesis I managed to monitor, describe and evaluate Jan Železný's extraordinary sports career with the help of available documents and information. Communist regime propaganda against the Catholic church in Czechoslovakia

in English This paper describes the development of relationship between catholic church and communist regime in Czechoslovakia from the start of communist reign to the Velvet Revolution. Author focuses on communist persecution against the catholic church and on the propaganda of this persecution in media. Special attention is dedicated to describing the context of the clash between these two ideologies in the history of Czechoslovakia so that this paper can give the most accurate picture of the practices of communist regime. The first part is focused on era from the end of second world war to the year 1968, giving the most attention to era 1948-1953, a period that contained the most persecution. The second part tells the story of the normalization period from the Warsaw Pact invasion to Czechoslovakia in 1968 to the Velvet revolution, in which the catholic church played a significant role.

Responses of Rhodococcus strains to heavy metal stress

Increasing heavy metal pollution can be dealt with not only through physical and chemical decontamination processes but also utilizing microbial bioremediation, a much more environmentally friendly way. Members of genus Rhodococcus are suitable candidates for effective bioremediations of heavy metals due to their considerable adaptability and extreme resistance to different stress conditions, including those related to presence of heavy metals or their toxic compounds. Individual rhodococcal strains are more resistant to heavy metals than most of other microorganisms and they are capable of biotransformating them to less toxic forms or at least of accumulating effectively or adsorbing them on produced polysaccharides and specific surface active substances. Their bioremediation potential is very high even though, so far, only molecular mechanisms of rhodococcal resistances to toxic arsenic compounds have been studied more in detail.

Microregion of Middle-Výrovka river flow in the Roman Period on account of old and new archaeological finds

This thesis reviews the surveys of the settlements from the Roman period in the microregion of the Middle Section of Výrovka river. This area belongs to the Kolín district and consists of municipalities Dob ichov, Chotutice, Pe ky, Pla any, Radim, Ratenice, Velké Chvalovice and Vrb any. The thesis presents described archaeological sites as well as unpublished find assemblages and isolated finds deposited in Národní muzeum and Polabské muzeum v Pod bradech, where also the previous collection of Pe ky museum is currently held. In addition to scientific literature, the notes of curators of three above mentioned museums and the records in inventory books were used as a source of data. Gathered information served to create the broad picture of microregion during the Roman period and to draw the map of all known archaeological sites of this period.
