The topic is elaborated using mainly English secondary sources and also some primary sources like political documents and videos. The thesis examines the basic factors influencing the Irish representatives' attitude towards the Easter commemorations. Simultaneously, the paper analyses the means used by the Irish representatives to influence the people's commemorative practises. Key words Easter Rising, Dublin, commemoration, Irish Republic, Irish Free State, memorial, remembering, 1916

The Import and Distribution of Gramophone Records under the Normalization in Socialist Czechoslovakia
Andrs, Jiří ; Vojtěchovský, Ondřej (advisor) ; Michela, Miroslav (referee)
This work engages in the import and distribution of the audio storages, concretely the gramophone records to Czechoslovakia. A gramophone record - differently to other audio storages like reel-to-reel tape records or later the cassettes - was meanwhile also an artefact that personified an attractive exoticness of the western world and because of its format and graphical elaboration it represented a valuable object of popular culture. The work is based on the assumption that the development of Czechoslovak musical subcultures depended largely on the distribution of gramophone records. That is why author focuses his attention on the unofficial import of the LP records by private persons. The very limited state-controlled import of this product will be also partly taken in account. An important question within this work is the import of the west-made music from other socialist states. In many of those countries licenses of those LPs were released much more often than in CSSR. Compared to the original western LPs it was easier for Czechoslovakian citizens to reach them - because of better possibilities to travel to socialist countries and yet because of a relatively low prices of eastern presses. Student also tries to revise the common notion (typical for both academic and non-academic sphere)...
Remember the Bombs: Memory of the Belgrade Bombings from the Second World War from 1995 until 2003
Puškarov, Katarina ; Vojtěchovský, Ondřej (advisor) ; Daniel, Ondřej (referee)
This study explores the usage of the memory of the bombings of Belgrade from WWII in the time period of Yugoslavia from 1995 until 2003. Considering that Belgrade was bombed by two opposing forces during WWII, once by Nazis in 1941, and the second time by the Allies in 1944, and due to the fact that the exploitation of memory of the two bombings was rather unequal during the Socialist Yugoslavia with the latter bombings being a taboo theme, I was interested in answering following questions: how the two memories were used in the times before, during and after the NATO Air Strikes of Yugoslavia, if the memory of the Allied bombings emerged in the public sphere and how it coexists with the one of the Nazi bombings. My primary sources are articles from "Politika" newspaper issues from commemoration dates during the research time frame from 1995 until 2003. The final conclusion shows the dominant usage of the memory of the Nazi bombings throughout the whole time frame even though we could witness the emergence of the memory of the Allied bombings.

Purkert, Jan ; Vojtěchovský, Ondřej (advisor) ; Ira, Jaroslav (referee)
This bachelor's thesis contains an analysis of various modes of utilization of historical themes in educational literature, which was produced by Legionnaires, in the context of Legionnaire movement. The goal is to detect how and which motives are employed by Legionnaires for construction of their identity and explication of the context of their movement within the national history. The method of achieving this goal is to survey the distribution of historical themes among various types of titles. The results serve as a basis for setting the historical symbolism into the context of social life of legionnaires in the interwar period and for detection of factors, which determined its formulation with comparison of differences of usage between authors with different political convictions. The first section contains interpretation of the development of the Legionnaire movement in the wartime in relation to historical motives, the second in the interwar period in the context of production of legionnaire literature. The third section describes the content of historical symbolism.

The Czechoslovakia-Iranian relationships. Political and cultural relationships between 1953 and 1979.
Nováková, Klára ; Tumis, Stanislav (advisor) ; Vojtěchovský, Ondřej (referee)
The thesis discusses Czechoslovak-Iranian relationships during 1953-1979. Several thematically organized chapters deal with policy and diplomatic relations after the fall of Mosaddeq in 1953, the support of Tudeh party, cultural relations and intelligence activities of above mentioned countries. Relationships between them had been cooled after the beginning of the communist era in Czechoslovakia and it got worse after the Mosaddeq overthrow - mostly due to Czechoslovakian support of persecuted Iranian Tudeh party. However, due to Czechoslovakian business opportunities in Iran, the relations from the 1960 improved and led to the state visits in the 1970. Nevertheless, as well as with other countries, nearly all dealings were interrupted after the Islamic revolution in 1979. The thesis is primarily based on archive sources from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The National Archive, and The Security Forces Archive as well as on a professional literature. This diploma thesis brings new historical evidence in the area of Czechoslovak-Iranian relationships through processing, for the time being, almost unexplored topic of Czechoslovakian diplomacy and relations with Iran.
