New musical orientations in contemporary liturgical music practice in the Czech republic

The work maps the current situation of the use of new musical movements in liturgy in comparison with traditional liturgical music. The work describes the contemporary form of liturgy in the Roman Catholic Church, including the historical context. It also shows the role of music in the liturgy, both new and traditional, based on history and more or less binding rules. The thesis outlines new tendencies in traditional liturgical music and compares it with new - rhythmic liturgical music. Within the rhythmic liturgical music the work describes its roots, sources of inspiration and its origins in the Czech Republic. It also describes its development, presents a selection of the most famous scholars, authors and discusses current and past singers of this new music. The thesis presents new musical approaches in liturgy as a self-valid, widely spread and recognized branch of liturgical music.
Development of Czech Christian Music after the Second Vatican Council

This Bachelor thesis aims to describe the development of Czech Christian music after the Second Vatican Council. Firstly, it describes the terms spiritual and liturgical music. The thesis then compares the music from the Jewish religion and through the times of Christianity until the Second Vatican Council. Also, there is described the Second Vatican Council, its contribution and the changes in terms of liturgical music. Furthermore, the thesis is focused on the use of liturgical music in the Czech Republic, and it describes the rules for using liturgical music in liturgy with the use of rhythmical instruments; it also explains the liturgy with children and music used for this purpose. The thesis describes the reaction on the Second Vatican Council by the composer Petr Eben and his Trouvere mass; and the Christian bands early after the Council - Ztracená kapela and Učedníci. Also, there is described the current Czech Christian music and the scholas as KaPři, SBM and Adorare. Furthermore, the thesis describes the materials of the music for liturgy and other Christian fellowship occasions. It contains the list of available songbooks, examples of choosing the music for liturgy, and a database of Czech Christian music with an electronic key, which helps to search liturgical music. The following bachelor thesis deals with the person and work of the cantor, director of elementary school, choirmaster, composer, pianist, and conductor PaedDr. Stanislav Šidlák (1904-1987), whose life is inherently connected with regions Trutnov, Úpice, and Malé Svatoňovice. This personality has become an important cultural promoter in the region of Northeastern Bohemia, specifically Sudet. He developed cultural events in the aforementioned location. He founded and led many choirs (e.g. the Vítězslav Novák choir), as well as vocal chamber groups, one of which was the internationally successful Dívčí pěvecké trio. He also acted as a conductor of the Strážkovická hornická hudba (a group typical of that region). For his ensembles, he edited a number of folk songs for various musical groups. As a composer he is the author of suites, cantatas, several vocal works for men's and mixed choirs, and an operetta (popular during that time) on the motifs of Božena Němcová's Pantáta Hájek. He not only led his ensembles but also actively participated as a regular member (e.g. Pěvecký sbor českých učitelů). He was also a sought-after tenor.
