What turnes Bluebeard into killer
Jarošová, Andrea ; DUFEK, Jiří (advisor) ; VAJCHR, Marek (referee)
Bluebeard is a killer, whose reason for the killing differs in every adaptation of his story. Along with Bluebeard's motivation for murder is changing not only the degree of his guilt, but also the importance of his existence. He is not even always taken as a real chcaracter, in some interpretations he is understood as a manifestation of destructive processes in the girl's mind. The work deals with the examination and comparison of these different approaches. I am exploring how to build a character in a adaptation, it the story of the character is missing in the original tale.

The possibilities of adaptation - Ladislav Fuks
Peroutka, Jan ; VAJCHR, Marek (advisor) ; MRAVCOVÁ, Marie (referee)
In our work we are dealing with analysis of the novel Pasáček z doliny and its film adaptation. We are trying to capture the way how this novel was transferred to the screen. We are finding out how much the filmmakers stuck to the novel and how much they used its opportunities. To this analysis we are using selected aspects of literary work and the method of comparation of film with original literary work. However we are trying to exceed the limits of film and literary science and also provide a preview from the perspective of a film creator, who examines the use or non-use of the potential of literary original. We are taking to the account also the context of the period, wherein Ladislav Fuks's novel was formed and František Vláčil's adaptation and also we are trying to understand these works in context of creation both authors.

Phantomic character and its impact on a movie structure
Dufková, Kristina ; POZZI, Jaroslav (advisor) ; VAJCHR, Marek (referee)
The thesis is based on the theory of acousmetre and deacoumetrisation which were both defined by Michel Chion in his book Voice in Cinema. This theory closely connected with sound is generalised, the terms phantom and dephantomisation are introduced. The phantom is a character which the director decides to hide from the audience. Dephantomisation is a moment at which the face of a phantom is revealed. The thesis classifies types of stories with phantom based on the time of dephantomisation (the first, middle, or final act) and analyses the effect of the dephantomisation on the rest of the story.

How to write a story?
Mašinová, Milada ; VAJCHR, Marek (advisor) ; DUFEK, Jiří (referee)
In my thesis I focus on screenwriting literature. I decided to scrutinize two very different titles: Robert McKee's Story: Substance, Structure, Style and the Principles of Screenwriting and Blake Snyder's Save the cat! The Last Book on Screenwriting You'll Ever Need. Literature approaching this subject is not very common in Czech environment which is the reason I concentrate on two foreign publications. I am not only introducing the books themselves, I also present their authors, I examine the chapters on characters and on structure, I apply McKees's and Snyder's principles on two selected feature films. Lastly I summarise pros and cons of both of the books and the value they could bring to potential readers.

During the second half of the twentieth century the Italian filmmakers have synthesized a new type of film genre: giallo. It incorporates components from horror films, thrillers and detective stories with a touch of mystery. This thesis confronts the selected examples of gialli films with some fundamental ideas of existentialism in hopes of proving that even in the conventional structure of film genre an original and distinctive philosophy can be found.
