Identification of the cervical spine's meniscoids by MRI before and after aplication of manual therapy
Píglová, Tereza ; Jelen, Karel (advisor) ; Tlapáková, Eva (referee) ; Vacek, Jan (referee)
Introduction The joint dysfunction of the spine in the sense of functional blockade is connected with corresponding painful condition, reflex contraction of the surrounding muscles and restriction of mobility in the spinal segment. Joint block has its mechanical context, which need not be accompanied by a structural disturbance but it's affecting the biomechanical properties of the spine. Several theories exist how the joints become restricted. Scientific evidence highly supports the meniscoid entrapment theory. Purposes The aim of the study was to identify the meniscoids of the cervical spine using in- vivo MRI imaging and to determine their potential role in the development of functional joint blocks of the axial system (AS). Another objective was to find out how the articular blocks affect the rheological properties of the spine by the Transfer Vibration through the Spine (TVS) method. Patient sample The MRI study was conducted on a research file of 12 subjects - two anatomical preparations and ten in vivo. Two subjects were examined in TVS experiment. Methodology Two anatomical preparations were investigated on MRI to find the appropriate sequence for imaging of meniscoids, three subjects for identification of meniscoids in vivo. Seven subjects underwent initial investigation, manipulation of...
The Effects of Compensatory Exercises on Function of the Lumbar Spine in Badminton Players under Seventeen Years of Age
Prausová, Lucie ; Maixnerová, Eliška (advisor) ; Vacek, Jan (referee)
Title: The Effects of Compensatory Exercises on Function of the Lumbar Spine in Badminton Players under Seventeen Years of Age. Objectives: The objective of my bachelor thesis is to prove the effect of compensatory exercises in badminton. The other objective is to improve the function of the lumbar spine in badminton players under 17 years of age. Methods: I used tests for a muscle length of particular muscles (musculus iliopsoas, hamstrings, adductors of the hip joint) for an examination of the function of the lumbar spine. Then tests of spine movements (Thomayer test, test of a lateral flexion of a spine), specific Trendelenburg test for examine the stabilisation of the pelvis and the specific tests of activation of the core (Kolář's tests) have been used. I used the set of compensatory exercises for the therapy. The group of badminton players was asked to do these exercises 3 or 4 times per week for 3 months. These exercises are used to relax, stretch and reinforce the lumbar spine muscles. Results: In a practical part of my thesis there I have found the improvement mainly in tests of shortened muscles, in the test of lateral flexion of the spine, in the Thomayer test, in the quadrupedal tests and in the test of intra-abdominal pressure. Keywords: badminton, compensatory exercises, lumbar spine
Secondary prevention of back pain using meditation of mindfulness
Hradecká, Marie ; Herbenová, Alena (advisor) ; Vacek, Jan (referee)
The aim of this work was to verify the effectiveness of the proposed secondary prevention of back pain in cervical and thoracic spine in women working at the computer. The program was introduced into a normal business day and was either just motion or added meditation. The effect of the movement program (for all women) and the influence of meditation (half of the women) on selected items (intensity of pain, stress, anxiety, regularity of exercise) were monitored. The study lasted for seven weeks and was attended by six women who were divided into two groups. The first group only performed the motion program, and the women in the second group above that meditated. The preventive program itself proved to be successful in reducing pain and improving posture. From the results, it can be seen that meditation may positively influence the course of the preventive program to a certain extent, namely regularity in exercise, intensity of pain, stress and anxiety. Key words: back pain, meditation, working environment
Public awareness about the oil shortage in the South Bohemian region
VACEK, Jan
The diploma thesis is focused on the assessment of the level of public awareness on the issue of oil shortage in the territory of the South Bohemian Region and the comparsion of the obtained data with the results obtained in the region of Pilsen. The results of this research are linked to the second objective of proposing measures to improve the information system on the given issue. For the needs of the thesis, quantitative research was chosen as a questionnaire survey. The questionnaire itself consists of 17 semi closed questions, with 3 filtering questions in the introduction, ranking respondents by sex, age and municipality, followed by 14 specific questions. The purpose of the research is to determine the level of public awareness of possible regulatory measures related to the declaration of the state of oil shortage, focusing on fuel shortages, powers of state administration and self-government authorities and a general overview of the oil security of the Czech Republic. The data obtained suggest that the average knowledge of the correct answers averages around 65 % on average, but succes rates vary from 30 to 94 %. Questions with a low average success of the right answers are potential topics for improving awareness, for example through short TV spots, training courses, or information brochures. The diploma thesis can be used for educational purposes as a starting material for follow-up research, or it can serve as an inspiration for finding a suitable way of communicating with the public in the field of crisis management.
Use of Spacecurl to improve the stability of equestrian
Vlasáková, Anežka ; Mende, Karel (advisor) ; Vacek, Jan (referee)
This work focuses on the use of Spacecurl. The aim of this work is to demonstrate the positive effect of exercises on the Spacecurl on equistrian's sitting position. The hypothesis is that if there is a change in the stability of a person in a standing position, the equistrian's sitting position will be change. The methods were used to objectify the work: Tetrax system and video recordings. The Tetrax system objectively assessed the changes in stability that occurred after training on the Spacecurl. The riding videos were recorded before and after the Spacecurl exercise and were used to analyze the changes that occurred. The result of this work is that exercises on the Spacecurl have a positive effect on the stability in standing position. Depending on the degree of stability improvements, equistrian's sitting positions are improving. Hypotheses have been confirmed and the aims have been met. The work can be used in practice for sporting riding purposes or to make a follow-up research that will have in its research group people with physical disabilities involved in para horsemanship.
Biomechanical aspects of babywearing
Rutová, Pavla ; Vacek, Jan (advisor) ; Mende, Karel (referee)
The subject of my bachelor thesis is "Biomechanical aspects of babywearing". Babywearing is generally considered to be an alternative method and many people hold the opininion, that it is harmfull to children. This is the reason why I've decided to objectively evaluate this issue. The main aim of my thesis is to analyse different opinions and study different ways of babywearing with possible impact on health. My thesis is divided into three main parts. The first of them is comprised of ten chapters, which are dedicated to the term babywearing itself, history of babywearing and different products for babywearing. One of the chapters deals with the question, which children are supposed to be worn this way. The second part consists of four chapters about the ways how to wrap the scarf. And finally as for the last part of this thesis, it is divided into five chapters. This part concerns the positive and negative consequences of babywearing, which were published in an official statement of Czech Pediatric Association. Moreover I've decided to add various researches from foreign countries.
