Vítková, Veronika
This thesis addresses the issue referring to financing of foreign pupils' education (or pupils with different mother tongue) in public primary schools in Vysočina region. I focused mainly on education policy of the Czech Republic in relation to foreigners, foreign pupils' education's legal regulation, and the EU's involvement in education policy with a focus on primary education and funding opportunities for teaching. Through the questionnaire I examined the possible obstacles which the primary schools meet with, in order to propose measures for improvement. Although there is a constant addressing the importance of foreigners' education, the financial aspect of this teaching is often unheeded. The contribution of this thesis is the opportunity to inform about the lack of solutions to the problem and introduce effective measures that are applicable to other regions in the Czech Republic as well.

Healing the Wounds of the Colonised Body: Writing Back in Twenty-first-century Works by British Caribbean Women Writers Thesis abstract Veronika Vítková Black women`s position within the world of male superiority and white supremacy came to be characterised by the term "double colonisation". Both patriarchal and imperial social order focused on their corporeality to justify their subjugation. Accordingly, black women writers came to conceptualise their experience of colonisation and slavery as wounds suffered by the black female body. They thereby use the master`s tools to dismantle the master`s house. Their "writing back" - a means of healing the body - constitutes a multi-level response to both sets of mythologies as well as other types of marginalisation and othering, which the two involved, such as sexual, territorial or discursive. It results in the construction of a complex space - a healing vision - which is not dissimilar to Homi Bhabha`s empowering theoretical concepts. However, while providing such progressive literary vision, black women writers also maintain connection with reality, where, as Gayatri Spivak argued, there is no space from where the subaltern sexed subject can speak. Their broad historical and geographical perspective, which is a product of the multi-levelness of their oppression,...

Migrant experience in contemporary black British fiction
Vítková, Veronika ; Nováková, Soňa (advisor) ; Kolinská, Klára (referee)
My work will be concerned with post-WWII migrant experience in Britain. Accordingly, I will focus on issues of identity, hybridity, belonging, diaspora and the concept of home. All these will be exemplified on the basis of selected works by black British writers that will be specified below. Over time, the denotation of the term diaspora - originally meaning the dispersal of the Jews from Israel - increasingly widened. Nowadays, it may refer to people leaving their countries not only for reasons of expulsion and persecution, but also for example in the wake of political strife or war, through conquest and colonisation, as part of global flows of labour or as a result of the capture or removal of a group through slavery.1 According to Avtar Brah, "the question is not simply about who travels but when, how, and under what circumstances?"2 Moreover, it is not possible to create strict categories - types of diaspora - into which particular moving people can be placed. This is also the case of black immigrants in Britain whose ancestors were brought to the Caribbean from Africa for the reasons of slavery. They themselves came to Britain as a result of at least two factors: colonialism and the global flows of labour. As Avtar Brah claims, "[a]t the heart of the notion of diaspora is the image of a journey."3 This...
