Metropolitanization and peripherization processes in selected regions of Poland and Czechia: Trends and changes in regional development

This master's thesis deals with the metropolitanization and peripherization in two Polish voivodeships and one Czech NUTS 2 region, documents and compares these processes. Firstly, the used indicators are analyzed, metropolitan areas, peripheries and other territories are delimited by the cluster method. Furthermore, the development of parts of the region and, above all, metropolitan areas are dealt with. Other parts of the thesis are focused on commuting relations in metropolitan areas and entire regions. Key words: metropolitanization, peripherization, Czechia, Poland, regionalization
Geographical aspects of corruption in Czechia on the example of public procurement in selected regions

This thesis deals with the issue of corruption in public procurement. The main aspect of the work is to compare the transparency of public procurement in selected towns of Pilsen, South Bohemia, Karlovy Vary and Ústí Region in the years 2006 - 2014. Based on the data of public procurement were observed characteristics, that highlight the risk of corruption. Partial aim was to assess possible influence of political environment and their changes on the practice and transparency of public procurement. The results show, that the towns, which are positively evaluated in terms of their transparency are characterized by high participation in elections and low unemployment rate. According to the results, towns with higher levels of economic and social capital rate are generally better evaluated in their transparency. The influence of variables characterizing the political environment on the transparency of public procurement, was not proved. Geographical aspects of soccer players' origin - football academies: Comparison of Czechia and Serbia Abstract The goal of this thesis is to identify football academies in Czechia and Serbia since 1993. That accomplishes through presenting theoretical approaches of sport geography, then documents the globalisation of sport and especially the diffusion of football in space and time. It submits also characteristics of the successful football academy and finds out positive economical effects, which are generated by production of professional football players. The thesis researches in analytical part not only regional divide of the football academies, which are identified based on the place of birth, first youth and professional clubs and transfer value of the individual players, but the influence of different factors on success of club in national league as well. The changing Sweden's regional pattern and its context

Regional disparities and spatial inequality are typical topics studied by geography. Sweden is one of the most homogeneous and egalitarian countries in the world. Simultaneously, it is characteristic for its very low regional disparities and thus it is an important and interesting subject for studying. The main goal of this thesis is to examine changes in a regional pattern from the beginning of the 1990s and to analyse an impact of structural changes (deindustrialization and tertiarization) and globalization (through activities of transnational corporations) on regional disparities. In the thesis socioeconomic and demographic indicators and quantitative statistics are used to analyse a development of regional disparities in Sweden and to examine a broader context of this development. The main finding of the thesis is a disproportional growth of metropolitan regions (mainly Stockholm). Share of metropolitan regions on population and socioeconomic activities is increasing and it is characterized by dynamic development which is intensified by high specialisation, major valued-adding activities, knowledge-based economy and localisation of transnational corporations.
