Selected aspects of US foreign policy during period of decolonization
Urbánek, Daniel ; Romancov, Michael (advisor) ; Soukup, Jaromír (referee)
This bachelor thesis is focused on position of the United States of America towards the process of decolonization and its purpose is to identify if American steps in this context were guided by idealistic or realistic motives. After a short definition of these two paradigms and description of the mechanism of American foreign policy the thesis introduces traditions affecting that policy, mostly focusing on the tradition of isolationism. Main part of the thesis is divided into two segments - in the first one, four political programs concerning the United States are analyzed, sources being the Monroe Doctrine, the Fourteen Points of President Wilson, the Atlantic Charter and the UN Charter. In this part, contribution of these programs to the process of decolonization is emphasized together with the identification of idealistic or realistic characteristics. The second segment offers a case study focused on the Suez Crisis - the moment, when the United States practically intervened against European colonial powers. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882-1945). Portrait of the 32nd president of the United States of America
První zahrnuje léta 1882-1910, druhá 1910-1932 a třetí léta nástupu do prezidentského úřadu a "fenoménu Nového údělu". Z tohoto pracoviště byly použity prameny ze třech fondů: Roosevelt Family, Business, and Personal Papers: Harvard College: Notes and Papers: the Roosevelt Family, dále dokumenty z fondu Roosevelt, Franklin D. Papers as New York State Senator 1910- 1913 a také primární zdroje z fondu...

Horáková, Denisa ; Soukup, Jaromír (advisor) ; Krausz Hladká, Malvína (referee)
The bachelor thesis "The Czechoslovak Exile Government and its Relationship to Argentina in the years 1939-1945" examines the development of the struggle of the Czechoslovak exile government for recognition by the Argentine government. The thesis not only deals with the process of recognition of the Czechoslovak exile government and embassies in Buenos Aires, but also by the activities of compatriots in Latin America that helped foreign resistance through social activities. I use here primary sources which I found during study in the Archive of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. Very important is also the first chapter. I mention here the historical development of Argentina since the 20th century, its relation to the world's great powers, and finally the development of Argentina in the Second World War. I conclude the thesis with summary of answers to research questions.

Magdová, Marcela ; Županič, Jan (advisor) ; Soukup, Jaromír (referee)
movement when Czech language was the main attribute of national competency taken by the first patriots. Aristocracy understood however this competency differently. They believed in the old professional traditions from territorial point of view ("terrestrial patriotism") and with respect to their German orientation became to be Czech Germans. Absence of misunderstanding between the aristocratic and common community was resulting by their different opinion of conservative and liberal world view. As from 1848 already two antagonistic groups of high-born and the other people exist. One try-out to retrieve all gentle elites was done in the 2nd half of 19 century when we can see overall tendency to find common conclusion in the society held by the old Czech party. However Young Czech publicists were strictly against and Czech aristocracy was found fault with all disasters came to the Czech country. Starting with the eighties a fall-back of aristocracy, mainly in cultural and intellectual areas became stronger. Common life was more oriented on the other part of community. Aristocracy was gradually isolated in their own world represented by exquisite life style typical for previous periods. Incoming ninetieth just confirmed already stated reality. Nobility lost their political power and started to be concentrated...
The West-Berlin question and foreign policy of the FRG 1969-1974
Hrušková, Ivana ; Horčička, Václav (advisor) ; Soukup, Jaromír (referee)
The bachelor work The West-Berlin question and foreign policy of the FRG, 1969-1974 analyses the foreign policy of the Federal Government of FRG in Brandt's era. The aim of Brandt's Ostpolitik was the normalization of relations with GDR and other Eastern Block states. The Federal Government was working on conclusion of renunciation of force and renunciation of the threat of force treaties with these countries in the first half of the 70's. The easing of tension in Europe would be unattainable without an agreement regulating conditions in Berlin. Therefore, the work is also concerned with mutual relations between USA and USSR and with their impact on inter-German relations and the situation in Berlin.
The Cyprus Crisis in 1974 and the Role of the United Nations
Lauer, Maroš ; Horčička, Václav (advisor) ; Soukup, Jaromír (referee)
This thesis explores the impact of the UN on the development of the Cyprus crisis from its beginning until its peak in 1974. This impact is analysed on two levels: 1. Negotiations of the Cyprus Crisis during the UN Security Council and General Assembly meetings and their effects on the escalation of the local situation in Cyprus. 2. Activities of the peacekeeping mission UNFICYP since its establishment in 1964 until the division of Cyprus ten years later. For the purpose of examination of the aforementioned, both detailed historical analyses, as well as theoretical concepts from international relations theory are used in this paper. The paper describes the evolution of the Cyprus Problem as a dynamic process, which needs to be perceived in its full extent, thus it is not concentrated only on the period of 1960s and 1970s, but describes original sources and causes of the conflict.
