Prague City Archives and its role in Czech information society

This bachelor thesis is focused on introduction of Prague city archives, as important memory institution belonging to Czech information society. First chapter of this thesis is dedicated to historical development of archives. In the next chapter are defined functions, activities and services of this institution. Next parts of the thesis describe buildings, where the archives is located, organizational structure of this institution as well as the structure of collections, funds, and library. The last chapter is touching the major problem of Prague city archives which is storing of electronic archivals.

Newspapers in public libraries

The goal of this bachelor thesis is to find out how the activities concerning daily press go in five selected public libraries. In opening chapter the examined branch is delineated by definitions of used terms, previous adaptations of this topic are summarized, and methodology of research based on interview and surveys is introduced. Hypotheses are expressed in the last part of this chapter. In the second chapter all the Czech national daily press is characterized and their internet activities are documented. If those titles have an electronic version, it's functionality is examined in this part of thesis. Chapters 3 and 4 present results of research which was done at five libraries of various sizes.The third chapter presents selected libraries and it describes the workflow of purchasing the press in those organizations with a special emphasis on the process of choosing the material. In the fourth chapter the preferences of readers in selected libraries and the intensity of their interest over time are examined. This part of dissertation also includes analysis of other activities concerning press such as cataloguing and displacing journals. Third and Fourth chapter are closed with summarization of detected facts. In the conclusion assigned hypotheses are confirmed or disconfirmed.

ISBN system in the Czech Republic

This bachelor thesis is aimed to introduce several different aspects of the identifier ISBN, with emphasis on the Czech Republic. The work is divided into two parts - theoretical and analytical one. Introductory chapter defines the need of identification of information sources. It provides information about properties and division of identifier, too. Next part of the work is already focused on the identifier ISBN. It represents this identifier with regards to historical and organizational aspects. This part also analyzes the actual structure of the ISBN number. Furthermore, the bachelor thesis is devoted mainly to the usage of the ISBN identifier in the Czech Republic. It outlines the historical development and specific use in this country. The following part of work is strictly practical - attempts to analyze the usage of ISBN identifier in several information institutions. The final part of this bachelor thesis offers a summary of the main propositions and outlines possible future problems of the ISBN system.

Publishing of Belles-lettres in the Last Ten Years at the Czech Market

The Bachelor thesis deals with the fiction book market in the Czech Republic and its changes during the years 2001-2010. The first chapter defines the terminology linked with belles-lettres including its types and genres. The second chapter focuses on the Czech book market, its past and present, and deals with the different publishers, book distributors, sellers and marginally the libraries, too. The next point is readership in the country and its support. The third chapter concerns a statistical evaluation of Czech books and fiction. The final chapter shows a summary of fiction publishing by means of sales charts and comparison with other book popularity surveys. The situation of the Czech book market with belles-lettres is summarized in the conclusion.

Development of Public Libraries of the Pilsen Region 1990-2010

This thesis analyzes the development of public libraries in the Pilsen Region in 1990-2010. The work focuses on the major issues of development of public libraries from the perspective of the Pilsen Region macrosystem, especially the volume of data and system changes. In the first three chapters are given general information about public libraries and their functions, information about the Pilsen Region (former West Region) and library legislation. The main characteristic of the work of bringing the two periods, 1990-1999 and 2000-2010, public libraries in the Pilsen Region. These chapters analyze the changes that affected the functioning of libraries in the monitored phases. The consequences of changes thesis looks through the selected statistical indicators of the years. These changes illustrated in graphic form furnished comments. The last section concludes and evaluates the development of public libraries of the Pilsen Region in 1990-2010. Thesis is equipped with text and spreadsheet attachments. [Author's abstract].

The Safer Internet Programme and the possibilities of its application in the Czech Republic

The aim of this thesis is to introduce the Safer Internet Programme of European Union and to describe possibilities of its implementation in the Czech Republic. In the introductory chapter the thesis analyses the European approach to a safer internet, describes its history and emphasizes its main aims and objectives. The chapter also briefly presents particular projects and events held within the Safer Internet Programme. Furthermore describes European Self- Regulation Frames focused on the safe mobile phone and social networking webs usage. The second part of the thesis is devoted to exploring a safe internet in the Czech Republic. Attention is above all paid to educational activities of the Safer Internet National Centre and other institutions. The closing chapter describes the survey (the process and the results) and evaluates the impact of these activities on the selected Prague primary school.

The Municipal Library of Nový Jičín and its role in the local cultural activities developement

Thesis titled "The Municipal library of Nový Jičín and its role in the local cultural activities development" deals with issues of community libraries. The first chapter includes the definition of basic terms such as library, community, community library and community activities. In the second chapter we deal with the question, why should the libraries change into the community centers and also where they could find an inspiration to realize this goal. The next section describes the trend of the existence of libraries on the social network Facebook. The fourth chapter is more factual. It deals with extensions and activities of the Municipal cultural center of Nový Jičín, its individual parts and relationship between them. The largest part of this chapter covers the history of the Municipal library of Nový Jičín. It also deals with the nearby part of the Cultural center - the Archa teahouse and the music department of the library in Coffee Music Bar. The penultimate section describes the specific examples of cultural and educational events in library, promotion of the events, their financing and flaws. Analogy of social information systems and information systems of living organisms in selected texts

In the first half, the work is about human society information systems. It tries to find an origin of the information in the society, describes forms of the information and tries to explain causes for communication. Later it describes main attributes of the system itself. From mentioned facts the work then figures out an idea about new division of information systems based on the purpouse of a system. The next part concerns information structures present in the body of plants and plant neurobilology. Then the work question the relationship between the information science and the cognitive science. Later the woork tries to work out some global charakteristics of plant information structures. In the last part work discuss the basic funcions of the human brain and late discoveries in glia cells field. Conclussion of the whole work follows. The bachelors thesis describes services of Jewish Museum in Prague offered to visitors and explorers. Introduction describes the museum as a cultural and informational institute, as well as summarizes Judaism in Czech Republic. This body of thesis has two parts: First part includes general description of Jewish Museum in Prague, its importance, history, facilities, speciality, and cultural-educational activities. In the second part there is a detailed description of selected projects, departments and special divisions, which author chose for importance and informational character of their services.
