Design of an e-learning solution for the course 5FI404 – Cognitive Science
Klička, Lukáš ; Šubrta, Václav (advisor) ; Sigmund, Tomáš (referee)
This paper presents an e-learning solution used as supporting educational material for the subject 5FI404 - "Cognitive Science". In the theoretical part it summarizes the basic knowledge and principles from the field of e-learning and e-learning course design, which it then attempts to practically apply to the author's own e-learning solution. The first half of the paper focuses on theoretical aspects of planning of an e-learning course, its presentation to the user, user interface design and the possibility of using it to review learnt information. Principles used in individual chapters are discussed in detail so that their application in the practical part is understandable. The second half of this paper focuses on the author's own e-learning solution. The author presents an e-learning course meant to serve as support material for the subject "Cognitive science" at the University of Economics in Prague. Finally, the author analyzes the benefits of his solution and the possibilities of its practical application.

Informatization and Social Realities - Application to Domain of Global Economy
Galatík, Lubomír ; Rosický, Antonín (advisor) ; Sigmund, Tomáš (referee)
Information and communication technologies constitute a substantial part of today's world. Growing informatization, i.e. implementation of these technologies, in all areas of human activities generates a need to reflect upon their influence on man and society. The significance of this intellectual endeavor is accentuated by the very nature of these technologies. Since they are inserted between individuals in acts of mutual communication their application impacts on information processes within the frame of human societies. This factor takes effect everywhere, no less in the economic environment. In consequence of recent events which gave rise to a financial meltdown at first and an economic crisis later, the necessity to inquire into the effect of informatization on the domain of arrangement of economic relationships acquires its sense of urgency. At present, however, there is a significant gap between the theoretical framework which man uses to intellectually embrace these phenomena and the application of the technologies in question in which a disproportionately greater amount of resources are being invested. Therefore our capability of capturing in our train of thought the changes in the socioeconomic environment of today caused by informatization lags behind the very speed and dynamics of the changes. For that reason, the objective of this diploma thesis is to create a methodological-phenomenological framework for deliberation on the influence of information and communication technologies on the globalizing economy. The fundamental attribute which induces far-reaching transmutations in this field is the virtualization potential that the modern, symbolic and highly interactive forms of these technologies have obtained. As they began to be implemented in the frame of the arrangement of economic relationships, they impinged on a domain whose inner dynamism has already split into two components -- virtual and real -- by the symbol of value -- money. Another layer of virtualization related to the information and communication technologies as such therefore transforms the economy into a much more complex whole, the research of which poses an intellectual challenge as well as a necessity as the changing character of the globalizing economy shelters many pitfalls. This thesis offers theoretical points of departure for grasping the issues in question.
Will computer overcome human mind?
Nováček, Jiří ; Sigmund, Tomáš (advisor) ; Rosický, Antonín (referee)
The work deals with a question whether a computer can overcome human mind. It summarizes most widespread outlooks on human mind and the current attitude, features most famous reasonings concerning computer and mind, deduces their products and shows difference in computer and human mind. It infers obstacles resulting from this difference which keep a computer from reaching abilities of human mind. Finally there is a speculation why we actually try to do that, what sense it has and where to turn our efforts to gain highest benefit from computer development.

Compatison of web sites of big European cities
Korous, Petr ; Toman, Prokop (advisor) ; Sigmund, Tomáš (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to analyze and compare three web sites of big European cities: Berlin, Vienna and Zürich. At first, several factors of internet pages are described, e.g. Internet and HTML language. These are followed by a description of city web pages, their regularization and the theoretical part is concluded by a brief description of evaluation methods of web pages. In the first part of the analysis, a methodology of evaluation containing several groups of criteria is designed. To them are then assigned different weights. The evaluation of partial, as well as total results is provided in the following part. Finally, the results are compared with one another, critical deficiencies are defined and a way of its elimination is proposed.
The analyses of selected travel agency web sites
Čadinová, Jana ; Toman, Prokop (advisor) ; Sigmund, Tomáš (referee)
The topic of this bachelor thesis is the analysis and comparison of web sites of selected travel agencies in the Czech Republic. The thesis is focused on web accessibility and availability from the point of view of disabled users. In the general part there are groups of disabled users described, as well as the web design methodology. In the practical part I have created my own methodology focused on web sites evaluating. It consists of several testing criteria and testing points. Each of the criterions has been assigned a weighting coefficient and each testing point is assessed with a particular number of points. After creating this methodology an analysis of two selected travel agencies in the Czech region follows. In the conclusion there is a comparison of the travel agencies mentioned.
User interface in view of cognitive science
Šilar, Pavel ; Sigmund, Tomáš (advisor) ; Bruckner, Tomáš (referee)
User interfaces of operating systems were often developed according to technological and marketing restrictions. Recently, more emphasis is aimed on the user who uses the operating system. User interfaces, which correspond to user's behavior and expectations, are designed. Cognitive science commits itself in the research of a human mind phenomenon. Its base was used to settle aspects of a human thinking which are related to a user interface and its functionality. It is mainly area of UI design, text elements and functions. Overall model of the user interface was established following recognized conclusions. This model was used to verify, if existing operating systems correspond to findings about the human mind. Correspondence among operating systems and cognitive science was recognized during the comparison of existing operating systems and the created model. Also some insufficiencies were identified, mainly in the area of stereometric design, using of gestalt principles, support of a user's training and involving learning methods of the artificial intelligence. Design of the user interface can be improved in these four areas to ensure better coherency with the human mind.
