Imagination as a Theological Term
Šmejdová, Barbora ; Ryšková, Mireia (referee)
The aim of the rigorous work called Imagination as a Theological Term is to grasp the theme of imagination in the field of theology both in theory and practice. The work is grounded on the theory of imagination of Paul Ricoeur, who approaches the theme from a linguistic perspective. The first chapter, which is devoted to Ricoeur's theory, introduces his concept of narrative, metaphor and symbol. The second chapter deals with the theological reflexion of imagination from the point of view of three authors: J. H. Newman, K. Rahner and H. U. von Balthasar. Newman describes imagination by his distinction of real and notional assent. Rahner introduces the theme from the perspective of various kinds of arts, and von Balthasar comes with a concise project of theological aesthetics. These various points of view enable us to open several important questions. The chapter thus touches the theme of theological language which should appeal not only to the reason of the listeners but also to their heart. After that it shows how various kinds of art speak to us and on which condition they can serve as a theological expression. Finally, it introduces the theme of man as an imaginative being and shows that the language of imagination is also the language of God, who reveals himself to man by his creation, Holy...

The Barren Fig Tree and the Expulsion from the Temple. Mk 11:12-25
Svatek, Martin ; Ryšková, Mireia (advisor) ; Scarano, Angelo (referee)
The pericopes "Cursing the Fig Tree", "Cleaning of the Temple" and "The Withered Fig Tree" are sometimes included among the texts that are labeled as "the difficult Bible pages" or "the mysteries of the New Testament". About the tenability of this labels give evidence the numerous commentaries of the Gospel according to Mark, which are, mainly in the case of the first pericope of our interest, ambiguous and which offer several different possibilities of its interpretation. This thesis presents various possibilities of the interpretation of this problematic part of the Gospel according to Mark. In its first chapter the thesis discuss the historical and the literal context of Mark 11:12-25. In its second chapter the thesis analyses this text and compares it with a similar text from the Gospel according to Mathew (Matthew 21,10-22). In its third chapter the thesis suggests the characteristics of some of the ways of interpretation of Mark 11:12-25, that are in present times most presented. The goal of the thesis is to present current interpretations of the pericopes mentioned above and their comparison and evaluation.

Which life events aided him in this search? How did he develop on his personal spiritual way, where he found meaning in suffering and thus became an authentic teacher in this area? The answers are proposed in this thesis, which is divided into three chapters: From a childhood to a priesthood; From the Priest Ordination to the Roman Pontificate; The Pontificate - the Pope "speaking" and "silent". The author advances chronologically and applies hagiographic-personalistic approach, which takes into account particular life events of a man and takes interest in his spiritual growth. Already in his childhood and an early manhood, Karol Wojtyla was greatly tried by suffering. This is shown in quite a detail in the first chapter.
