Rights and obligations of public administration in protection of nature and landscape

The diploma thesis deals with the rights and obligations of the public administration in the protection of nature and landscape. It contains an introduction to the legal norms as a foundation for the activity of the public administration - the self-government and the municipal government. It gives the fundamental information about administrative law, administrative regulations and the principles of its activities. It describes the organizational structure of the public administration in the environmental protection, competences of the public administration institutions in protection of nature and landscape in detail. Further the diploma thesis deals with the responsibility of the environmental damage, especially harm to the environment. Five administrative procedures in protection of natura and landscape are contained in the analytical part of the thesis. Two of them deals with the projects intervening to a significant landscape element and the rest of them attends to the intentions which affect landscape character. The purpose of the diploma thesis is is analysis of the process of public administration in particular administrative procedures and to provide possible concepts of the procedure improvement as well.
Adoption of ISO standards as a voluntary tool for sustainable success of company

My work deals with analysis of attitudes to ČSN EN ISO standards acceptance, above all ČSN EN ISO 9001:2001 and ČSN EN ISO 14001:2004. It focuses on microeconomic view of acceptance of these standards by Czech companies. The first problem is concerned with what standard is accepted and perceived in the Czech Republic and it examines possible influence by refusal or acceptance of the standard. The second area of my study is assesment of the degree of assets and costs for a company by standard implementation and subsequent calculation of these values. Analysis of estimations from experience, if the standard is an administrative burden for the society or if it is dealt with an effective instrument to successful development of the society. My study treats of reasons, causes and consequences of acceptance or non-acceptance of the standards.
Environmentally-Oriented Subsidy Programs in Czech Republic, with Example of Development and Support in Beekeeping

This thesis deals wiht the subsidies as a tool for solving positive externalities in the environmental field. The theoretical part explains the principle of externalities, and offers three variants of their solution - a system of taxes and subsidies, according to A.C. Pigou, the negotiation of compensation, according to R. Coase, and connected property. From these theoretical concepts are in reality to solve positive externalities mainly used subsidies. Selected subsidies programs for environmental protection are subject to the following analysis. Classic example of positive externality is considered pollination activity of bees. Therefore, the second half of thesis describes how this agricultural sector, beekeeping, depends on subsidies. This thesis proposes another solutions to develop and streamline the sector without the use of subsidies.
Sustainable Development in EU: Water

This thesis deals with the problem of water consumption in European Union and ways to overcome its excessive abstraction. The aim is to analyze whether the current abstraction in each area is sustainable in the future, and if there is any possible way how to ensure this sustainability. This work is based on the information about the development of abstraction in different sectors, changes in the amount of water that will be caused by global warming and the data on the current technical possibilities of obtaining water. The first section explains the concept of sustainable development and clarifies why the water consumption is excessive. The second chapter deals with the quantity of water and its resources, including alternative resources. The third chapter describes the water abstraction and the potential for savings. The last part focuses on policies and measures to ensure sustainable water abstraction.
Application of environmental product declaration of moulded plastic parts

The diploma paper themed "Application of environmental product declaration of moulded plastic parts" concentrates on the area of optional instruments within the environment. The subject of the search is a life cycle assessment (LCA) applied to a plastic product supplied to the automotive industry. This method evaluates the impact of various phases of products on the environment, focusing on the phases of production of granulate, transportation and moulding of the product. Information regarding energetic and material inputs and outputs during previously mentioned phases of the product life cycle is essential. The LCA constitutes basis for a further optional instrument of the environmental policy, mainly to the environmental product declaration. This certificated declaration features the marketing instrument for the company and simultaneously shows the impact of the product on the environment and possibilities of improvement its environmental profile.
Consumer protection and dangerous products

This work deals with dangerous products marketed in The Czech Republic. The theoretical part summarises legislature concerning dangerous products, and other significant issues related to this work -- RAPEX information system, product tagging, tags for consumers, and respective supervisory authorities. The practical part presents the survey of customer awareness which was done through questionnaires. The aim of the work is to analyse consumer awareness of their rights and responsibilities, how they cope with consumer protection and dangerous products, or to what extend they are interested in product tags.
CSR and its utilization in Czech firms

The topic of this diploma thesis is Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), with prominent attention paid to the environmental aspect. One of the main targets of this thesis is to analyze the attitude of companies to the CSR and to answer the key question -- why do firms deal with CSR and how can it influence their business. The theoretical part of the thesis describes the meaning of the CSR concept and it also contains an analysis of its individual benefits. The standards related to CSR are also discussed, with the inclusion of ISO 26000. The practical part shows examples of the attitude and approach of some selected companies towards socially responsible behaviour. Firstly, their activities in the environmental area are presented and an interpretation of how these companies perceive benefits of the CSR concept follows. Another target of this thesis is to evaluate if the CSR concept should be normalized. That is why it was important to include a part showing the opinion of some companies about the CSR norms. The final part includes all findings reached while writing this diploma thesis and an answer to the key question -- why companies make use of the CSR -- is provided.
The Environmental Protection in Škoda Auto

Diploma thesis deals with the relationship between a company and the environment with regard to the possibility to reduce the negative influence of comapany's activities on the environment. Theoretical part generally deals with the human activities influence over the environment, the development of this relationship, theoretical principles of the environment protection and the possibilities to limit the negative environmental influence in business sphere. Empirical part uses Škoda Auto company to illustrate the environmental protection and effort to minimize the environmental influences in practice. Emphasis is laid not only on the manufactural process but also on the whole product life cycle. Diploma thesis objective is not only to illustrate the company approach to sustainable development especially to environment, but also to evaluate particular environmental project, which was realized in Škoda Auto company. Conclusion summarizes ascertained facts.
Environmental Management as a Voluntary Tool for Environmental Policy

Environmental management is one of the voluntary tools for environmental policy, which provides instructions to organizations, how they can coordinate their products, activities and services to minimize their negative environmental impacts. This work describes and compares two basic approaches for environmental management system (EMS) implementation - ISO 14001 Standard and EMAS II Regulation in terms of requirements for an organization. Attention is paid to advantages and disadvantages of EMS implementation in an organization too. In analytical part of this work, environmental management is analyzed in light of a number of certified and certifying organizations, after that follows cost-benefit analysis of EMS focused on organizations and SWOT analysis. The goal of this work is to find out on the basis of the results of these analyses, whether environmental management system implementation is a competitive advantage of an organization, or not.
Environmental labeling in the Czech Republic - an analysis of each types

Environmental labels and declarations as market oriented approach of environmental protection can lead to sustainable production and consumption through credible and verifiable labeling schemes. Ecolabel provides consumers information about environmental impacts of the product that they can include in their purchase decisions. The goal of this paper is to determine how companies evaluate effects resulting from use of one of the types of environmental labeling in the Czech Republic. Environmental labeling encompasses three types - ecolabeling (Type I), self-declared environmental claims (Type II) and Environmental product declaration (Type III). Main objective is the evaluation of environmental labels as a communication tool between company and consumer.
