Veselský, Michal ; Sládek, Jan (advisor) ; Podaná, Zuzana (referee)
Bachelor work - abstract Value Orientation of the Prison Population Michal Veselský Abstract Bachelor work concerns on value orientation of criminal subculture, namely people who are under imprisonment. Work uses quantitative methodological tools (standardized questionnaire) and compare Czech prison and general population. Data for general population were taken from public opinion research (mostly from Public Opinion Research Centre). Data for prison population were procure from own research conducted in 13 prisons with total number of 424 respondents. Results shows that prison and general population do not differ that much. In general, prisoners do not dispute with general values. They rather doubt openness of mobility channels in the social system. Keywords: Prison system, value orientation, public opinion
Trust in justice in the Central Europe
Forejtová, Natálie ; Buriánek, Jiří (advisor) ; Podaná, Zuzana (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the relationship between the perceived legitimacy of the courts, the obligation to obey the law and courts and the willingness to cooperate with the criminal justice system in Central Europe. Using structural equation modeling method, I analyzed the fifth wave of the European Social Survey and created and compared models for Czechia, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary. Legitimacy, according to Tankebe, is conceptualized as a confidence in procedural justice, distributive justice, effectiveness and legality. The obligation to obey the law is then a potential effect of perceived legitimacy. The first research question asks about the universal applicability of the procedural justice theory across criminal system institutions and across different countries. As in the previous research on police, procedural justice plays a pivotal role for the willingness to cooperate with the police and the courts. In Czechia and Hungary, procedural justice is out of all fo the dimensiions of legitimacy the strongest predictor of the willingness to cooperate. In Poland, procedural justice does not affect cooperation, however, it leads to obligation to obey the law and courts. In Slovakia, instrumental factors play a more important role than procedural justice, which can be explained either by...
Alternative Sentences in the Czech republic: Specific of Home Arrest
Dytrychová, Kateřina ; Podaná, Zuzana (advisor) ; Homolová, Pavla (referee)
The bachelor thesis aims to map the position of the house arrest in the Czech Republic. With the forthcoming changes in the implementation of the electronic monitoring system, the professional and lay public expect a greater frequency of usage of this type of sanction, relief of the control system and its easier controllability. The focus of the theoretical part of the thesis is selected basic topics explaining the extensive problems of the system of alternative sentences, especially the sentence of home arrest. In the practical part, qualitative methods of semi- structured interviews with experts from the Probation and Mediation Service of the Czech Republic are used. Research has shown that prison sentences are still perceived by experts as marginalized and less used than other types of alternative sanctions. The home arrest sentence after the deployment of an electronic monitoring system does not have the potential as other alternative sanctions because it carries many constraints and cannot be imposed on all convicts who would have been able to carry out the prison sentence without this implementation. One further finding is that the introduction of an electronic monitoring system will in the beginning lead to increased demands for probation and mediation staff, as this is a revolutionary...
Social project case study focused on migrants
Kalinová, Klára ; Podaná, Zuzana (advisor) ; Mazák, Jaromír (referee)
In this thesis, I am focusing on the integration of Christian refugees who were transported to Jihlava in the Czech Republic thanks to the endowment fund G21. In the theoretical part of my theses, I am dealing with the issues related to migration and integration of refugees in the Czech society and I am focusing, in particular, on the Czech legislation dealing with this subject and on migration politics at the municipal level. Furthermore, I am dealing with particular resources used by the endowment fund 21 to integrate refugees into society. In the second part of my thesis, I included interview with the organizers of this project, reasons why the above mentioned refugees are provided with help and lastly real-life accounts related to the adaptation of refugees in Jihlava. The goal of this thesis is therefore to offer a comprehensive view of the matter of integration of refugees in a smaller city such as Jihlava and raise awareness of potential issues related to it and to find out what specifically would have to be done in another way so that the integration process is successful in this case.
Crime - environment relationship analysis
Formánek, Tomáš ; Buriánek, Jiří (advisor) ; Podaná, Zuzana (referee)
Crime associated with alcohol consumption poses a serious problem. There is a variety of approaches that try to conceptualize this relationship. One of the most progressive approaches is that of emphasizing the effects of alcohol outlets on crime associated with alcohol consumption. Even though it is a well-established field in other regions, in Czech Republic, there are no available studies dealing with the relationship of alcohol outlets and crime associated with alcohol consumption. This diploma thesis deals with the association of on-premise alcohol outlets and crime in Czech Republic. The unit of analysis used in this diploma thesis was police districts. In the final data set, we had 517 police districts. For all of the police districts, the incidence rates of crime, on-premise alcohol outlet densities and other characteristics were obtained. Analysis by the means of linear regression and geographically weighted regression was performed on data. The results of analysis indicate that on-premise alcohol densities are associated with all examined crime incidence rates (except of road accidents), even after adjusting for other variables. Also, there is a non-trivial spatial variation in data. The regression models had high explanatory power. The results of this diploma thesis imply that it is...
Homoparentality as a social stigma
Giebel, Pavel ; Podaná, Zuzana (advisor) ; Sedláčková, Markéta (referee)
This bachelor thesis shortly introduces homoparentality in history, refers to civil partnership as a connected topic and also describes the possibilities of homoparental family formation and it's functioning. The main topic consists in a relationship between homoparental families and social stigma on the basis of the theory of Erving Goffman. One of the thesis' targets follows the homoparental families as an object of social stigma based on the respondent's experiences included in foreign qualitative studies. The results confirm an influence of social stigma on homoparental families. The second target follows Goffman's strategies of coping with social stigma. The thesis also uses the respondent's experiences included in foreign qualitative studies to find examples of using these strategies by homoparental families and their children. Hiding and showing of the stigma and relying on friends as the examples of strategies are contained. On the other side stands the social stigma used as an excuse which is not reported.
Risk Behaviour Among Children on the Internet: Comparison Between Clients of the Low-Threshold Treatment Programme for Youths at Risk and General Child Population
Kolínská, Viktorie ; Podaná, Zuzana (advisor) ; Krulichová, Eva (referee)
(in English): The thesis focuses on risk behaviour among children on the internet. The aim is to find out the specific differences between clients from the low-threshold treatment programme for youths at risk and the general child population, in the context of three main topics: risk behaviour, victimisation and victim and offender role reversal, and in two fields: cyberbullying and online violence against children. The work is divided in three parts: theoretical, methodological and analytical. First, I introduce basic concepts of hazardous internet behaviour among children as described within the academic literature. Those are mainly online communication, cyberbullying, cybergrooming, sexting and child pornography. In the methodological part, I present the goals of this work, research questions, the case-study method which is the base method of my own research, as well as other quantitative research methods that are commonly used to study the child population. These findings are compared in the analytical part, focusing on two main areas: cyberbullying and online violence against children. In the conclusion, the results are put in context of the theoretical findings from the first part in order to answer the research questions. The findings show considerable differences between the general child...

Pešková, Martina ; Podaná, Zuzana (advisor) ; Buriánek, Jiří (referee)
This Master thesis deals with the subject of aid to women who are victims of Intimate Partner Violence, in the context of the recently passed Victims of Crime Act. The aim of the theoretical part is to describe the basic specifics of intimate partner violence and problems that arise from these specifics for the victims and for the practice of organizations and individuals helping the victims. In the subsequent part the options of aid to and protection of the victims within the criminal proceeding are discussed. The last chapter of the theoretical part covers the legislation context of giving aid to victims, with a special emphasis on the Victims of Crime Act and its possible contribution to solve problems related to this. The empirical part consists of an analysis of qualitative interviews and questionnaires with experts with at least five years of practice in aiding victims of intimate partner violence. The objective of the practical part is to deliver recommendations how to activate victims. The research aims to verify whether the problems of activation of the victims described in both domestic and foreign literature correspond to the practice of experts, what strategies have proved successful in reaction to those problems and in the end to what extent the law on victims can help in this...
Youth Violent Delinquency in the Czech Republic based on comparison of ISRD-2 and ISRD-3
Pešková, Veronika ; Podaná, Zuzana (advisor) ; Krulichová, Eva (referee)
The following thesis examines the violent juvenile delinquency of the Czech youth and has supportive evidence from two sweeps of the International Self-Report Delinquency Study (ISRD). The first sweep in the Czech Republic was conducted in 2006/7 (ISRD-2) and the second sweep was conducted in 2013 (ISRD-3). The theoretical section focuses on risk factors, which are linked with violent delinquency, and theoretical foundations of aforesaid research ISRD. The theoretical foundations of aforesaid research are primarily social control theories. The remaining part of the thesis centres around a statistical analysis, which compares two data sets primarily focusing on violent delinquency, victimization and gender differences. Furthermore, the link between family bonds and parental supervision with violent delinquency is analysed, followed by a comparison of sample cases from Prague, Pilsen and the remainder of the Czech Republic. The final conclusions display that the prevalence of violent delinquency and gender difference in violent delinquency has decreased significantly. The link between family bonds and violent delinquency was proven to be statistically significant and the same can be stated for parental supervision, although the relations were not proven to be very strong. In addition, no statistically...
