Nguyen, Mai Huong ; Soukup, Jaromír (advisor) ; Riegl, Martin (referee)
The bachelor thesis Cambodia between China and Vietnam deals with the causes of the Third Indochina War. It monitors the relation developments between Cambodia, Vietnam and China in the 1970's. After the period of alliance between Vietnam and China in the 50's, tension between them gradated accordingly to the normalization process of the Sino-American relations. The Sino-Vietnamese split escalated in the 70's, when China took advantage of its influence in Cambodia to provoke Vietnam, which invaded Cambodia at the end of 1978. China as the protector of Cambodia counter attacked Vietnam in response and initiated the assault of the Vietnamese civilians on the Sino-Vietnamese borders. Despite the official fraternal Communist doctrine, these two countries declared open war. These conflicts are altogether known as the Third Indochina War, which as a result redefined the relations in Southeast Asia.
