After Tito - Tito! The Transition from Charismatic Leadership to Collective Leadership in Socialist Yugoslavia
Mosković, Boris ; Pelikán, Jan (advisor) ; Štěpánek, Václav (referee) ; Mervart, Jan (referee)
The thesis focuses on the transition process from charismatic leadership to a system of collective leadership in socialist Yugoslavia at the turn of the 70s and 80s. This was related to the death of Josip Broz Tito in May 1980, the undisputed and, so far, the only leader of the Yugoslav socialist regime. Therefore, the dissertation focuses on the circumstances in which the power elite members were preparing for this moment, representing a fundamental milestone in Yugoslav history. The researched topic is approached through a so-called actor's perspective, which is also the basis of the interpretation itself. This conception allowed me to follow in detail the specific (mainly political-institutional) preparations for the impending departure of J. B. Tito. Moreover, it enabled us to capture how Tito and his colleagues (who later became his successors) perceived the whole range of problems and challenges within their contemporary context without being distorted by later events. We were interested in what attitudes, preferences and forecasts they expressed and how this reflected their mental world as representatives of the Yugoslav model of socialism. As the interpretation focuses on the crucial period of 1977-1982, we analysed the negotiations, argumentation and communication strategy of the Yugoslav...

Zima, Mikuláš ; Vojtěchovský, Ondřej (advisor) ; Moskovič, Boris (referee)
The bachelor's thesis examines the place of the mutiny of Austro-Hungarian sailors in the Bay of Kotorska in 1918 in the culture of remembrance in Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia. It traces changes in the interpretation and forms of commemoration of this event in both countries, both in the interwar period and in the era after 1945. Based on secondary literature, it reconstructs the course of the event itself. It observes how much its interpretation changed depending on changes in political regimes and what significance was attached to the event in the public space. It tracks anniversaries, the activities of veterans' associations, and the image of the event in the media as well as in genres of popular culture such as literature or film. It will also focus on interpretations in historical literature and non-fiction. The sources of the work are daily and periodical press and archival documents.

The Czech Political Debate on the NATO Air Strikes Against FR Yugoslavia in 1999
Ivaniushin, Mikhail ; Vojtěchovský, Ondřej (advisor) ; Moskovič, Boris (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to map and analyze the Czech public debate about the bombing of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia by NATO air forces in 1999. The North Atlantic Alliance attack on the FRY, which followed shortly after the Czech Republic had joined the Organization. Part of the political representation reacted to NATO's actions with restraint or regret, while the current, represented mainly by President Havel, became a principled supporter of the attack, even on the international political scene. The work deals with various levels of this debate: the initiation of individual actors in the problems of the NATO Operation in Yugoslavia, the starting points, argumentation strategies or links with other topics. It tries to reveal secondary motivations in the formulation of individual opinions (considerations of the security interests of the Czech Republic, worldview, prejudices, etc.). The source base of the work is mainly periodicals, especially the most read dailies. Klíčová slova (anglicky): Czech Republic, Serbia, Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Yugoslavian crisis, The conflict in the Balkans in 1999, NATO Air Strikes Against Yugoslavia in 1999, NATO
The Serbian Radical Party in the 1st stage of development of so called 5th October republic: the path of the Radical Party from the Milošević regime fall to winning 2003 general elections
Pashkevich, Mikhail ; Pelikán, Jan (advisor) ; Moskovič, Boris (referee)
The diploma thesis will analyse the activities of the Radical Party of Serbia (SRS) in the period following the fall of Slobodan Milosević on October 5, 2000 as a result of mass protests till the parliamentary elections in 2003, when the party won the most seats in the Serbian parliament. The victory of the SRS did not become an isolated incident, but, as it turned out later, represented the beginning of a new trend in Serbian politics: the consolidation, reformatting and return of nationalist forces, which later adopted pro-European rhetoric. The aim of the thesis is, first of all, to determine the reasons and premises of the return, secondly to describe the communication strategy of the SRS in the years 2000-2003, which allowed the party to elaborate an effective electoral message under severely unfavourable conditions. To achieve these aims, the following questions will be examined in particular: 1. Whether the renaissance of the Serbian Radical Party's influence does not reflect the fact that the fall of Milosević's administration did not mean a major turning point in Serbia's political development 2. How broad was the support of the nationalist program in Serbian society during the rule of Milosević and after his fall. 3. To what extent was the SRS ready to take on the role of leader of the...
