Comparison of the communication of Andrej Babiš and Petr Fiala during the election to the Chamber of Deputies in 2021
Friedel, Gabriel ; Brunclík, Miloš (advisor) ; Mlejnek, Josef (referee)
The thesis deals with the comparison of Andrej Babiš and Petr Fiala's communication during the election campaign before the 2021 elections to the Chamber of Deputies. The specific subject of the research is the communication of both actors towards each other during the pre- election debates broadcast between August and October 2021. The thesis tries to answer the question whether Andrej Babiš used negative campaigning techniques to a greater extent than Petr Fiala. Thus, the theoretical part describes the key concepts related to negative campaigning. To analyse the actual communication during the debates, a method based on the work of William L. Benoit is applied, dividing both actors' statements into three categories: attack, praise, defence. The content analysis of the rhetoric of both actors in the debates and the classification of their statements into these categories shows that the negative campaign was applied to a greater extent by Petr Fiala and not by Andrej Babiš. Petr Fiala more often used attacks and critical statements, whereas Andrej Babiš was more often defensive in his statements. Thus, the theory of the challenger and the defender was confirmed at the same time. The analysis also showed that Petr Fiala more often than Andrej Babiš used attacks directed at the character of the...
Comparative analysis of Vox and Partido Popular using the theory of institutionalization
Vrubel, Adam ; Stauber, Jakub (advisor) ; Mlejnek, Josef (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the institutionalisation of political parties and compares two Spanish parties - Vox and Partido Popular. The primary objective is to identify differences in functioning and structure between traditional and new parties. For this purpose, the approach of Harmel and Svåsand is chosen, which conceptualizes institutionalization as a process taking place in three dimensions - internal, external and objective durability. The paper first summarises the Spanish political system and its evolution in order to place the subsequent findings in a broader context. Afterwards, both Vox and Partido Popular and their institutional evolution in all three dimensions are individually presented. On this basis, the thesis then compares the institutionalisation of political parties. In doing so, it focuses on the evolution of the parties since their inception, the factors influencing their institutionalisation and the level of institutionalisation that both parties have achieved. The thesis uses qualitative and quantitative data, in particular analysis of documents, including party programme statements and statutes, financial reports, election results and opinion polls. The main finding of the thesis is the confirmation of the initial assumption that traditional political parties have...
Dispute over the appointment of Jan Lipavský as Minister of Foreign Affairs
Viktorinová, Anna ; Mlejnek, Josef (advisor) ; Brunclík, Miloš (referee)
The Bachelor thesis focuses on the dispute over the appointment of Jan Lipavský as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic between the President Miloš Zeman and the designated Prime Minister Petr Fiala in December 2021. This case is put into a context of similar previous events during the presidency of Václav Havel and Václav Klaus. The aim of this thesis is to examine the argumentation behind Zeman's previous rejections or objections to the nominated ministers. Also, it is focused on describing the main types of argumentations and the way in which the last case of rejection of the Czech Pirate Party nominee Lipavský responds to them. It is through both broader and narrower contexts that this thesis explores Zeman's justification for the refusal of this candidate. The research shows that Zeman's reasoning in this case mostly corresponds to the main types of his previous argumentations. This thesis also deals in detail with the process leading to the appointment of Jan Lipavský and the government of Petr Fiala. It includes both the professional political-science and constitutional-legal discussion, as well as the public discussion which arose from Zeman's refusal to appoint Lipavský and mostly disagreed with his move. Keywords President, Miloš Zeman, presidential powers, Prime Minister,...
Analysis of the Oil-Rich Countries: Case Study of Russia and Azerbaijan
Tomanec, Jan ; Mlejnek, Josef (advisor) ; Romancov, Michael (referee)
The subject of this diploma thesis is the analysis of oil-rich countries based on the case study of the Russian federation and the republic of Azerbaijan. This analysis will be based on the Resource curse theory which is fundamental for the conceptual framework of this diploma thesis. This theory describes the resource-rich states as more prone to be governed by an authoritarian regime. This relationship will be defined in the case study of Azerbaijan and Russia by comparative analysis of selected factors and state budget revenues from oil and gas. In the first chapter, the methodology and critical source analysis will be exercised together with the theoretical framework. In the second and third chapters, this paper will focus on the analysis of Azerbaijan and Russia based on factors of repression, war, corruption, and freedom of the press which is the core of this work-study. This diploma thesis is based on the presumption of superabundance on one source-focused export, mainly fossil fuels. Based on this relationship the hypothesis will be tested, which will subsequently confirm or refuse the theory of the resource curse. At the same time, the collected data will be compared with selected European countries and the United States of America which will add the required value to the research. The...
