Marvan, Jiří ; Krbec, Martin (advisor) ; Čapek, Lukáš (referee) ; Pilný, Jaroslav (referee)
Ankle fractures can be serious and complex injuries with variable prognoses. In our department, ankle fractures are the third most common fracture behind fractures of the distal radius and the proximal femur. Ankle fractures present with considerable variability with regard to the extent of injury to bones and ligaments, with each injured structure requiring appropriate treatment. We analyzed a group of patients that were surgically treated, in the Orthopedics and Traumatology Clinic, 3rd Medical Faculty of Charles University, for ankle fractures, with a particular focus on the epidemiological, clinical, and morphological parameters of the fractures. Our objective was to supplement existing information regarding the morphology of ankle fractures. Furthermore, we wanted to experimentally verify certain aspects related to ankle fractures. Our first step was to focused on the structure of cortical and cancellous bone in the fibula by carrying out a biomechanical study of the distal fibula after treatment with various types of fixation. The structure of fibular cortical bone was analyzed, using superficial sections, from dry preparations of a human fibula. By rubbing Indian ink into polished sections of cortical bone, we were able to visualize both the direction and organization of the central vascular...

Language situation by the Slavic nations in the Habsburg monarchy in the 19th century
Nedvědová, Milada ; Gladkova, Hana (advisor) ; Marvan, Jiří (referee) ; Honzak-Jahić, Jasna (referee)
During the historical development the larger part of the south Slavs (Slovenes, Croats, partly the Serbs and the population of Bosnia and Herzegovina) and the west Slavs (Czechs and Slovaks) had become the part of one state - the Habsburg Monarchy or the Austrian Empire and later the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. The 19th century means for all mentioned Slavic nations the culmination of their tasks for emancipation; the stabilization of the language norm and the achievement of the intellectual entity. The historical and cultural situation in the common state during the 19th century opens areal, socio-linguistic and diachronic view on the codification processes by the particular nations, which are organized from one political centre by the common educational and administrative-political system. Secular education of better quality had led all the nations of the state to the cultural and political emancipation, which resulted in the destruction of monarchy. The first part of the work deals with the key moments of the history of the Slavs in the Habsburg Monarchy till the 19th century. From the Great Moravia and the Slavic mission of Cyril and Methodius, creation of the independent Slavic states, till their final integration to the Habsburg Monarchy. It focuses on the development of the literary languages -...

It focuses on the preface of both works and the main linguistic section of each. The appendix contains Czech translations of the introductions of both grammatical works.
Russian-Belarusian language interference in Belarus
Kalita, Inna ; Marvan, Jiří (advisor) ; Brandner, Aleš (referee) ; Hentschel, Gerd (referee)
The work is dedicated to the language situation in Belarus at the turn of the 20th and the 21st century. It presents the Belarusian language situation in the context of the East Slavic languages and in a more widespread, postcolonial language continuum which finds itself in a new development phase. The contemporary language situation in Belarus is characterized by historical interferential influence; an emphasis is put on its binary nature which may be found in all spheres, and demonstrates the inevitability of a complex analysis. The work deals with the degrees of the contemporary interference, touches upon the process of mutual influence and its impact on the contemporary East Slavic languages is studied on the example of the adaptation of "cerkovnoslovjanizm" (the language of the Orthodox Church). The aim of the work is to present a common language situation in Belarus which has been developing in the situation of asymmetrical bilingual direction. Anyway, the work doesn't claim to describe all the characteristics concerning language interference in Belarus. The real contemporary bilingual situation is described. The level of speech interference is analyzed in detail. "Trasyanka", as the type of the language used in Belarus, is described in a special chapter and it is focused at summarizing previous...
The Lachian of Óndra Łysohorsky as a Microlanguage. Morfological Analysis.
Vašíček, Michal ; Marvan, Jiří (advisor) ; Čermák, Václav (referee)
Diploma thesis "The Lachian of Óndra Łysohorsky as a Microlanguage" deals with literary lachian, a microlanguage, created by the poet Óndra Łysohorsky (own name Ervin Goj) and based on the upper Ostravice dialects. This language should be an attempt to create a new standard language for speakers of lachian dialects. However, the broader public did not accept it and with the exception of a short period at the end of the 30th years of the 20th century Óndra Łysohorsky was the only person, who wrote poems in lachian. It is therefore rather unique poetic idiolect. The language of Łysohorsky's poetry has not yet been explored in detail, systematic grammatical descriptions are completely lacking. The aim of this thesis is to provide a description of the morphology of this unique linguistic phenomenon. For this purpose it was created the lachian language corpus, which contains the vast majority of lachian poetic texts. A language corpus allows a more detailed elaboration of the language material, therefore it was possible to try to sort grammatically all the vocabulary of literary lachian. Each of the paradigmatic types is followed by the list of all the words (which we can determine) inflected according to this declination or conjugation model. Besides the morphological description the thesis tries to...
The usage of participles and transgressives of the verbs "buti" (to be), "sakyti (to say) in contemporary texts. Their equivalents in Czech and Latvian languages
Durmanová, Lucie ; Lemeškin, Ilja (advisor) ; Marvan, Jiří (referee)
In my thesis "The usage of participles and transgressives of the verbs "bti" (to be), "sakyti" (to say) in contemporary texts. Their equivalents in Czech and Latvian languages" the object of my research is a grammatical phenomenon of indefinite verb forms in the narrow sense of the Lithuanian, Czech and Latvian languages. The subject matter is a treatise of various forms of participles and transgressives (we are not specifically concerned with infinitive in this thesis), chiefly in the Lithuanian language, but in relation to the Czech and Latvian language. Participles and transgressives are regarded as grammatical units, which are an integral part of a modern-day language; however the currency of their usage, in contrast to the past, is fading. We have focused on a summary of existing knowledge of participles and transgressives in the Lithuanian, Latvian and Czech language, pointing out the similarities and differences among them; on collection of actual language materials and the analysis of the usage in the Bibliographic database of Lithuanian newspaper articles (Lith. Bibliografin Lietuvos periodins spaudos straipsni baz; a collection of articles, published in Lithuanian printed media from 1994 to 2002). One of the objectives of my thesis was to compare equivalents of Lithuanian, Latvian and Czech forms,...
Numerals as a word class in present Ukrainian language
Koncepce budu srovnávat ze synchronního (I. R.Vychovanec, I. K. Kučerenko, K. H. Horodens'ka) a diachronního hlediska (A. A. Potebnja, I. Verchrats'kyj, J. O. Dzendzelivs'kyj, I. P. Pankevič). Budu vycházet z práce Potebni, která je stále aktuální a zasluhuje si pozornost i v dnešní době. Jeho práce obsahuje obrovský ilustrativní materiál, vrací se k němu i současní lingvisté a ověřují platnost jeho postulátů. Pro tuto práci jsem zvolila srovnávací...
