Makovec, Kryštof ; Janeček, Petr (advisor) ; Štěpánová, Irena (referee)
The diploma thesis focuses on peacock quill embroidery on the territory of the Czech lands, with a focus on the area of South Bohemia, more precisely Doudlebsk. Qualitative research methods including literature analysis and archival research are used for the research. In the first part, the belt, as a part of folk clothing, is analyzed. Symbolic and practical meanings, places of occurrence of belts and the connection between putting away costumes and putting away belts are described here. Subsequently, the work is devoted to quill embroidery itself from its predecessors, its origin and expansion, both locally and temporally. This section also describes the tools and materials used to make belts. It is described in detail here, how and from whose hands the embroidery is created. In the final phase of the work, what motifs and signs are used on the belts is analyzed. The work culminates with a list and photo documentation of most of the belts in the Doudleb region from memory institutions and ethnographic files, including their description and analysis.
