Evolution of pores during sintering of advanced oxide ceramic materials
Spusta, Tomáš ; Kaštyl, Jaroslav (referee) ; Maca, Karel (advisor)
The goal of this bachelor’s thesis is to experimentally specify behaviour of pores in oxide ceramic materials (Al2O3, t-ZrO2, c-ZrO2), particularly to describe the transition from open to close porosity. Ceramics powders made by different producers and with different initial particle size (Al2O3 – AKP30, REYNOLDS, TAIMICRON; ZrO2 + 3 mol.% Y2O3 – TZ3Y, TZ3YSB; ZrO2 + 8 mol.% Y2O3 – TZ8Y, TZ8YSB) were used. Samples were pressed by cold isostatic pressing CIP at pressures of 100MPa and 300MPa, and pressureless sintered up to relative densities up to 88-96%. The obtained results show, that evolution is mainly affected by material, independently of size of initial particles neither by initial shaping pressure. Elimination of open pores occurs in cubic ZrO2 at 91-92 % of relative density, in tetragonal ZrO2 at 92-93 % of relative density and in Al2O3 at 94 % of relative density.
Properties of novel magnetoelectric and multiferroic ceramic materials
Osička, Luděk ; Kachlík, Martin (referee) ; Maca, Karel (advisor)
Literature search about properties of magnetoelectric and multiferroic ceramic materials was made. Ferromagnetism and ferroelectricity and requirements for materials in which both of these properties can exist in the same phase were discussed. Further, multiferroics were classified by mechanism of ferroelectricity and by their crystal structure. Finally, multiferroic and magnetoelectric composites and some examples of strong magnetoelectric effect in multiferroics were described. In experimental part of this bachelor thesis preparation of specimens of magnetoelectric perovskite EuTiO3 was described. Prepared specimens had higher density than specimens described in literature and were phase-pure and they are suitable for research of magnetoelectric properties of EuTiO3 by infrared spectroscopy.
Sintering of Advanced Cubic Ceramic Materials
Hrubý, Jan ; Pouchlý, Václav (referee) ; Maca, Karel (advisor)
This bachelor's thesis deals with the literature search on preparation of advanced ceramic materials. It compares the sintering and properties of cubic ceramics with ceramic materials with different crystal structures. The experimental section is devoted to preparing tetragonal ZrO2 ceramic (doped with 3 mol% Y2O3) and cubic ZrO2 ceramic (doped with 8 mol% Y2O3). These ceramics were prepared using two-step sintering combining pressure-less sintering with hot isostatic pressing (HIP). The goal was to prepare dense ceramics with homogenous microstructure. Another studied material was Y2O3 with micrometer sized particles. Microstructure and optical properties of studied materials were evaluated.
Synthesis of functional ceramic powder materials
Čípová, Eva ; Maca, Karel (referee) ; Částková, Klára (advisor)
The theme of the work is electroceramic materials, particularly materials based on perovskites. The theoretical part describes electroceramic materials, their applications and possibilities of their synthesis. The experimental part focuses on the synthesis methods in liquid media and solid phase of barium strontium titanate. The prepared powders were characterized by morphology, phase composition and particle sinterability. It was found that weakly agglomerated particles with a single phase composition, perspective for the preparation of dense bulk ceramics, were prepared by the metod in liquid phase, especially by precipitation.
Study of bioceramic materials on the base of calcium phosphates
Kolář, Martin ; Maca, Karel (referee) ; Cihlář, Jaroslav (advisor)
The literature search on the topic of Bioceramic materials focused in layered materials based on calcium phosphates was written up. Based on knowledge obtained, experiments of preparation of calcium phosphates layered materials based on calcium phosphates by spin-coating method focused in optimalization of layer application conditions were designed and carried out. Experiments of preparation of hydroxyapatite bulk ceramics by uniaxial pressing followed by heat treatment were also performed. Prepared layered and bulk ceramics were characterized from bioactivity point of view by testing of their interaction with simulated body fluid.
Compaction of ceramic nanoparticle suspensions by centrifugal forces
Mišák, Jiří ; Maca, Karel (referee) ; Trunec, Martin (advisor)
In bachelor’s thesis, there was researched compacting of ceramic suspensions prepared from aluminium oxide with particle size of 100 nm by centrifugal forces. The homogeneity of centrifuged bodies was described in dependence of the speed of centrifugation. It was shown, that homogenous plate samples with regular particle packing could be prepared from centrifuged bodies. The structure and sintering behaviour of such bodies were superior to samples prepared by cold isostatic pressing. Similar properties could be reached in samples prepared from suspension with high loading (47,5 vol.%) as well as with lower loading (20 vol.%). The advantage of regular and dense particle packing by centrifugal compaction was demonstrated by manufacturing of transparent ceramic samples.
Determination of optimum sintering schedule of oxide ceramics
Průdek, Miloš ; Hadraba, Hynek (referee) ; Maca, Karel (advisor)
The sintering of cubic ZrO2 (stabilized with 8mol% Y2O3) by Single-Step sintering was studied in this bacherol‘s thesis. Two types of commercial powders with different particle size of 80nm and 140nm were used. It was studied whether the grain size of the sample sintered for shorter time at higher density is higher or smaller than after sintering for longer time at lower temperature. It was found taht for cubic zirconia the sintering for a longer time at lower temperature is advantageous from the point of view of decreasing the grain size fo cintered ceramics.
Gelcasting of Advanced Ceramics
Veselý, Jan ; Maca, Karel (referee) ; Trunec, Martin (advisor)
In Bachelor thesis, a literary overview of gelcasting method was worked out and pursuant to this overview, composition of alumina suspension was optimised for fabrication of bulky and complex-shape ceramic part. Four variants of ceramic powder filling in suspensions were prepared. Based on the experiments, a suspension with powder loading of 47,5 vol. % was chosen. The ratio between linear and crosslinking monomers was investigated for this suspension. A suspension with monomer ratio of 4 : 1 (linear : crosslinking) was chosen for preparation of bulky and complex-shape ceramic part. Gelcasting was verified by fabrication of ceramic medal and a knee-joint.
Processing of Electroceramics from Nanopowders
Kachlík, Martin ; Trunec, Martin (referee) ; Maca, Karel (advisor)
Literature review of processing of bulk EuTiO3 ceramics was performed. Based on experiments performed the experimental conditions of solid-state reaction of Eu2O3 with Ti2O3, resp. TiO2 leading to single phase EuTiO3 were established. Balk EuTiO3 ceramics were prepared by means of cold isostatic pressing and sintering in reduction atmosphere. This ceramics is suitable for further evaluation of electromagnetic properties.
Synthesis and Properties of Ceramic Photocatalytic Materials
Strejček, Josef ; Maca, Karel (referee) ; Cihlář, Jaroslav (advisor)
Two methods of synthesis of ceramic catalytic perovskite materials for fotochemical decomposition of water and partial oxidation of methane were studied. The method based on mechanochemical activation of oxide reactants followed high temperature solid state reaction made possible preparation of almost one phase perovskites of InVO4, InNbO4, InTaO4, EuVO4, EuNbO4 a EuTaO4. Pseudo sol-gel synthesis combined with high temperature solid state reaction lead to one phase perovskites or products with more than 90% of perovskites phase of the Sm-Ca-Co-Al-O type.
