Reflexivity in social work: the role of the interpretive method in assessing the client and his situation
Lorko, Radomíra ; Širka, Zdenko (advisor) ; Štěch, František (referee)
The thesis deals with the role of the interpretive method in direct social work in assessing the needs of the client and his/her situation. In the thesis we try to point out that only a reflexive approach in direct social work is not sufficient in order to reach an assessment of the case on the part of the assisting social worker in such a quality, when his proposed solutions will be effective and at the same time accepted on the part of the client. The main theoretical foundations of the thesis are the concept of social work as a humanistic interpretive discipline and hermeneutics understood as a theory of understanding and interpretive method. In the area of social work theory and reflexivity we draw mainly on the studies of Pavel Navrátil. In the field of hermeneutics we rely on hermeneutic interpretive concepts formulated mainly by Hans- Georg Gadamer. The core of the research is the analysis of the social worker's work with a specific representative case. Using a selected example from practice, we show that the principles of hermeneutics can be applied in working with a case and in the search for its solution. The paper also highlights what this style of work brings to social work practice and to the life of the person in need when the helper consciously works with the basic elements of the...
Biography - the story of life: an effective tool for setting up individual care for a person
LORKO, Radomíra
The thesis examines whether and how biography can be used in field social work to support independent living for people with intellectual disabilities. The service promoting independence and development in the areas of social inclusion relies in its practice on the method of Person-Centred Planning, which results in an Individual Plan. In my work, I seek to demonstrate that this Individual Plan can be meaningfully enriched with important elements from the client's history and can reflect their relevance in the client's current experience and coping. I refer to these elements, obtained through the recording of biography, as key biographical elements. What I observe about these elements is whether they play a positive or negative role in the client's life. I believe that key positive biographical elements can serve as bridges to coping in the present situation and are powerful motivators for acquiring new competencies and for further personal development. Conversely, knowing the negative elements can help us work with the client to set up effective communication and a more direct path to coping and achieving the client's individual goals. In this work, biography is a tool for me to extract key elements from the past life and to use these to enrich the current records of the client's current situation. Based on such a comprehensive picture, I can support the client effectively and with maximum understanding of their individuality.
Stories of the New Testament as the key to education for coexistence and understanding in civil society.
LORKO, Radomíra
The thesis deals with the possibility of using the stories of the New Testament in value education in the family, regardless of whether its members are believers or not. The theoretical part sheds light on the important role of the family in value education. It views the family as a basic element of society, resp. as a fundamental community for education on basic values, the content of which is necessary for the building of civil society. Furthermore, the education of values is viewed from the point of view of the church through church documents and through the educational system of the Czech Republic. The practical part is experimental. It is divided into three parts. The first part is a set of structured meetings on topics such as freedom, courage, compassion, love of neighbor, tolerance and openness, including an introduction to the methods used. In the second part, both families are characterized. Both selected families do not profess any religion, have two children and two adults, agree with the proposed cooperation and belong to the middle class of the population. The third part of the experiment describes the application of the proposed programs and the result of the practice. Although the positive result of the experiment may be influenced by the fact that these are the families of the author's friends, it still has its weight precisely because all participants were not obliged to participate only in their sincerity resulting from trust in interpersonal friendships. A significant result of the work can be considered verification that the combination of different approaches to the text, from variant reading, listening to artistic expression, makes both attractive and seemingly uninteresting texts or topics that seem to stand outside of everyday life. The pupils of the second grade responded best to the program and, as they themselves expressed in the final discussions, appreciated the opportunity to express their opinions openly and in sufficient space and to express their creativity towards the given goal. Family members agreed that working in this experiment was fun, inspiring, and brought them new unexpected experiences.
