Modern alternate types of sealing barriers analysis for landfills
Matoušová, Jana ; Kudrna, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Sedláček, Jaroslav (referee)
People and waste on our planet is constantly increasing, and so despite the unattractiveness topic the landfills are the current and noticeable issue. This paper deals with the standards and laws relating to landfills, from which they depend for the creation and construction. I should present an overview of the different variants of application materials to the construction of the landfill could be used, and today sealing landfills are available for engineers. But just I do not engage in alternative sealing options as well as standard which are still widely used methods of sealing landfills. To the situation in the Czech Republic stated in a global context, I give examples of coping with the landfill in other countries such as Chile, where they try to use local raw materials. What is landfill waste and security are concerned; our model may be one of our neighbours - Germany, which in this part is devoted to most extensively. Each of these options has its pros and cons. I leave at will and view of each reader to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of each solution. It is also possible to adhere to the already proven and well used ways of depositing, in their modernized and improved form.
Remedy of shallow slope slides by vegetation - using 'live poles'
Dašková, Barbora ; Boháč, Jan (advisor) ; Kudrna, Zdeněk (referee)
Slope instabilities (landslides) means hazard not only for structures, but also for human lives. This work describes one of the possible bioengineering methods which could prevent slope instability. The technique is called "Live Pole". It is an effectively, ecologically and economically undemanding method. However essential is the right choice of the plant species for the given site. Live Poles have a very positive influence on soil. Even with a small amount of roots the soil stability improves due to shear strength and dilatation increase anddue to root tensile effect. Also the amount of water in the soil decreases. The thesis also describes the use of "Live Pole" for the temperate zone and tropics (concretely for Malaysia). Keywords: Live Pole, slope stability, vegetation
Foundation of traffic embankments on clayey landfills of SHR
Mužík, Vlastimil ; Boháč, Jan (advisor) ; Kudrna, Zdeněk (referee)
Title Foundation of traffic embankments on clayey landfills of SHR Abstract This Bachelor thesis was worked out for Faculty of Science of Charles University in Prague led by Ing. J. Boháč. The thesis deals with motorway embankment over the landfill A. Zápotocký, which is part of motorway strech D8-0807/I. The thesis compiles research results, monitoring of trial embankments and monitoring performed by the own construction motorway embakment. Based on these data is determined the creep portion of the total settlement.
Analysis of stability problems in the side slope of open pit mine ČSA
Hanuljak, Vít ; Kudrna, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Rybář, Jan (referee)
Our current society is very energetically intensive. The location of the Czech Republic, its natural conditions and mineral resources, offers one of the few options for its acquisition, which is mining and coal processing. The effort is to get this important raw material economically as convenient as possible and also with limited negative environmental consequences. One of these options is mining of brown coal in open pit mines. Side slope is an integral part of the open pit mines and this thesis deals with the side slope of one of the largest open pit mines in the Czech Republic, of The open pit mines of the CSA. It is the base of the Ore Mountains, geologically very difficult terrain in which it is necessary to carry out the individual extraction steps very carefully, to avoid disproportionate economic and environmental damage. The company Czech Coal Group, Litvínovská uhelná, a.s., which deals with coal mining in the quarry of the CSA, constantly monitors this area and coordinates the work. In spite of this fact, there are smaller or larger landslides in the side slope. The geological and hydro geological conditions of the area are analyzed in this diploma thesis. The consequences of natural and climatic conditions are listed in general and in specific cases. Knowledge of experts of the largest...

Influence of Climatic Factor for Landslides Formation
Olejár, Filip ; Novotný, Jan (advisor) ; Kudrna, Zdeněk (referee)
TITLE INFLUENCE OF CLIMATIC FACTOR FOR LANDSLIDES FORMATION ABSTRACT Slope movements are divided into several groups, either by speed, method of movement or by factors causing their formation. The climate conditions of different territories are one of the main reasons that significantly affect the formation of slope movements. The most important climate factor that causes slope movements is precipitation. However, the effect of freezing soil can also be included here because water in the soil changes its volume and after thawing changing geomechanical properties of the material. In this work, the impact of precipitation will be discussed as the most significant climatic factor that induces breaking of the slopes. Rainwater can either gradually infiltrate into the slope, or can infiltrate in the single event with a high amount of rainfall, until it reaches a critical stage during which the weight of watered zone together with pore pressure are being increased whereas the effective shear strength is being reduced. This causes subsequent disintegration of the slope and movement of material along the slip surface in case of sliding movements and along the native surface in case of debris flows. This work summarizes the available knowledge about the precipitation as a significant factor which affects the...
Effect of added lime on consistency limits of silty clay
Sotorník, Viktor ; Boháč, Jan (advisor) ; Kudrna, Zdeněk (referee)
This work looks into the effect of added lime on consistency limits of silty clay. It was carried out under the support of GAUK 62008 grant. In this work changes of consistency limits of a loessy soil from the borrow pit Horky nad Jizerou with amount of added quicklime (CaO) and curing time were observed. From the development of consistency limits the lowest amount of quicklime needed for the establishment of long - term (pozzolanic) reactions in the soil was determined. Consistency limits were determined following standardized procedures in an accredited laboratory. Determination of the liquid limit was conducted using the 80 g/30ř fall cone. Firstly sample heating caused by the exothermic nature of the slaking reaction CaO + H2O → Ca(OH)2 + heat and rapid soil flocculation after the lime addition were observed. Furthermore increase of the plastic limit, unpredictable behavior of the liquid limit and therefore influenced behavior of the plasticity index in agreement with findings stated in the research part were observed. The results showed finishing of the modification reactions within 48 hours after the lime addition too. Findings stated by Rogers et al. (1997) about the value of the lowest amount of quicklime determined by the consistency limits method being lower than the value determined by...
Secondary raw materials for construction and recultivation of averse impacts of anthropogenic activity on the environment
Suchomelová, Leona ; Kudrna, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Slomek, Jiří (referee)
This work concern utilization of waste in order to produce secondary raw materials and its trying to describe the possible applications of these materials in the best way to meet the economic and ecological requirements. It contains a brief description of the characteristics of secondary raw materials, which have the greatest benefit for use in the construction, which are especially large volume raw materials produced from industrial waste. It focuses mostly on fly ash, slag produced by blast furnace and steelworks and waste produced in construction sites. Use of secondary raw materials are divided on production of raw materials produced from fly ash and slag, on construction of roads, where it's possible to apply large volumes of fly ash, slag and other secondary materials, and construction and reclamation of waste dumps and wasteponds. It also concerns negative influence of secondary raw materials to the environment, levels of pollutants in solid and the water extract.
