Hardware-Accelerated Device for Protection Against DoS Attacks
Kuka, Mário ; Kekely, Lukáš (referee) ; Kučera, Jan (advisor)
This thesis deals with the development of a firmware for hardware-accelerated device used as a protection against amplification (D)DoS attacks. In the today's world, (D)DoS attacks are very common and cause significant financial damages. Therefore the goal is to create affordable and easy to deploy centralized device that would resolve this issue. To reach this goal, a hardware accelerator is being used for the high-volume data transfer processing through a single commonly used server. Design and implementation of the firmware had been done considering the fact that this device will be used in the networks with 100\,Gbps speed. The whole system had undergone functional verification and its real throughput was verified within the laboratory testing as well. Created device has been already deployed into the CESNET network infrastructure during the time of the writing of this thesis and it has been tested by the network administrators. Based on the received feedback, the development will continue focusing on expanding of the detection of more types of attacks.
Accelerated Detection of Network Security Threats
Piecek, Adam ; Kekely, Lukáš (referee) ; Kučera, Jan (advisor)
This bachelor's thesis deals with the acceleration of IDS (Intrusion Detection System) for detection of security threats in networks. The main goal of the thesis is a proposal to use the Software Defined Monitoring (SDM) concept to accelerate the activity of IDS applications with a regard to their subsequent deployment for high-speed network analysis. The proposed system is implemented and subsequently evaluated for two selected open-source applications - Snort and Suricata. Over and above the task, native support for the SZE2 interface for packet acquisition is also implemented for the Suricata system in order to achieve even faster acceleration using an accelerated network interface card. Two alternatives of the concept are further analysed and compared in the thesis. The first alternative uses the hardware-accelerated version of SDM, while the second alternative is based on full software implementation of the SDM principle. Both alternatives are then evaluated in terms of achieved results and performance parameters of the entire system before and after the acceleration.
Implementation of Self-Correcting Codes for 100 Gb/s Ethernet
Velecký, Jan ; Kučera, Jan (referee) ; Kekely, Lukáš (advisor)
The thesis deals with the design of entire RS-FEC layer for the 100 Gb/s Ethernet according to IEEE 802.3-2015 standard including Reed-Solomon encoder and decoder. Text clarifies mathematical basis of finite fields, linear block codes, cyclic codes and particularly Reed-Solomon codes used in design. Design of RS-FEC layer transmit side has been adjusted for implementation in COMBO network cards which use Xilinx Virtex-7 FPGA and realized in VHDL. Encoder has been optimized in several steps - as for FPGA resource usage and as for VHDL code synthesis duration. Reduction of resource usage has been achieved by using pipelining thanks to properties of cyclic codes. Synthesis duration then by creating logic of encoder on gate level on its own. Resulting implementation has been tested in simulation and it is optimized enough for usage in FPGA for Ethernet implementation. It is possible to adapt both design and implementation for 400Gb/s Ethernet which does not exist yet at the time of design.
Generation of Binary Prefix Tree According to Probabilistic Parameters
Ženčák, Tomáš ; Kučera, Jan (referee) ; Matoušek, Jiří (advisor)
The goal of this work is to create a prefix set generator which will be capable of generating a prefix set from parameters specified in the ClassBench toolset. This work describes a possible approach to generation, as well as the final algorithm for prefix set generation. The resulting generator is able to generate prefix sets whose average deviation from the target parameters is typically orders of magnitude lower than the deviation of sets generated by ClassBench.
Testing in agile projects
Košťál, Ondřej ; Buchalcevová, Alena (advisor) ; Kučera, Jan (referee)
This thesis deals with the description of software testing in agile projects. Unlike the traditionally managed projects, testing in agile projects is not a discrete phase. In agile managed projects, testing is integrated into the entire development process. Testing takes place continuously throughout the project to ensure frequent delivery of valuable software in short development cycles. The aim of this diploma thesis is to create a comprehensive description of software testing in agile projects. The introductory part describes in detail the principles and values of the Agile Manifesto, as it is the cornerstone of the whole agile concept. Next, the basic differences between the traditional and agile approach to software development, aspects of agile design testing and agile methodology are described. The following section looks into the matter of the agile team, that includes its size, structure, and approaches that an agile team uses during its work. In terms of testing, this is in particular the Whole-Team Approach. The thesis then describes the role of the agile tester, his/her knowledge, skills and activities, which contribute to the creation of valuable software. As next, the key agile artifacts, meetings, and practices related to testing are described. The final part of this thesis presents the principles and practices of agile testing. Another aim is to design a teaching concept for 4IT479 - Software Testing in Agile Projects. The teaching concept is designed based on the theoretical knowledge described in this thesis. The teaching concept is further complemented by simulations that help students better acquire the theoretical knowledge.
Improvement of sporting organization IS
Rebenda, Jiří ; Palovská, Helena (advisor) ; Kučera, Jan (referee)
The thesis addresses the information system improvement for the specific sporting organization. The main motivation behind this and assumption, too, is the intention to improve operation in the sporting organization TAEHAN. The main aim of the thesis is the improvement proposal for the current IS. It is achieved by fulfilling the following objectives - current situation analysis and creation of proposals for improvement measures, new IS detailed requirements specification and its rough design which should express its main structural features. This set of objectives corresponds to the way of organizing thesis into individual chapters. In order to meet the first objective, it was necessary to create a list of improvement measures, which results from the description of the current situation and identification of the existing solution shortcomings. In terms of the benefit it is the most important part. The second objective was achieved by drawing up a comprehensive list of validated requirements. As a validation method, it was chosen the check based on checklist taken from existing information sources. The last objective was the design of new IS form. It was divided into two parts - in the first, based on the use cases, the IS was divided into several subsystems and in the second part, rough architecture of the possible solution was described including the advantages of its certain aspects.
