How does the fluid intake affect the gastrointestinal absorbtion of levothyroxine.
Kročová, Radka ; Krátký, Jan (advisor) ; Hána, Václav (referee)
Thyroid diseases belong among the most common endocrinopathies, and, therefore, thyroid hormones are among the most commonly prescribed drugs in the Czech Republic, as well as in the world. Even though untreated thyropathies may cause several health complications for the patients, poorly administered treatment can also hurt the health of the individual. Several factors make the treatment difficult. A type of fluid used to ingest the drug belongs among such factors, and it represents the focus of this Master thesis. As is indicated by its title, the thesis focuses explicitly on the gastrointestinal absorption of levothyroxine after being ingested with water, black tea or cow's milk. The thesis was aimed at determining whether and to what extent, if any, the fluids may influence the gastrointestinal absorption of the drug. Based on this premise, research was conducted with six test subjects who underwent a relatively challenging absorption test with four blood samples taken over six hours. The data set (altogether 56 samples taken from all test subjects) had revealed that the gastrointestinal absorption of levothyroxine reached its maximum values when the drug was ingested with water. The other test fluids impair the bioavailability of L-thyroxine, and patients should wait to indulge in them at least...
Sleep apnea of obese people
Kročová, Radka ; Tuka, Vladimír (advisor) ; Vilikus, Zdeněk (referee)
The most important cause of obstructive sleep apnea is obesity leading to excessive fat storage in the soft palate, tongue and oropharyngeal area. This condition results in the collapsibility of the airways, resulting in suspension of breathing (= apnea). The main task of this work in its theoretical section is to describe the relationship between obesity and breathing disorders. The purpose of the practical part is to show the characteristic symptoms of sleep apnea syndrome, to determine eating habits and learn about the lifestyle of patients who are diagnosed with sleep apnea syndrome. To obtain the data for this work a quantitative method of research was used in form of written guided interviews. The questionnaire was completed by 20 respondents. The results showed that all respondents face typical symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea. It was also obvious that all participants in the survey suffer from higher degree of obesity. Even though the result is not supported by the facts relating to the consumption of various food commodities, body mass index clearly shows obesity. Because of irrelevant results based on answers regarding the consumption of individual food elements, proper patient education is crucial. Keywords: respiratory disorders, obesity, obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, eating...
The Media Image of the Chernobyl Nuclear Accident on the Pages of Selected Czechoslovak/Czech and American Press
Krocová, Radka ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Cebe, Jan (referee)
The dissertation The Media Image of the Chernobyl Nuclear Accident on the Pages of Selected Czechoslovak/Czech and American Press based on contemporary press shows the way the Chernobyl nuclear accident was depicted in the press and the way its media image developed. The paper introduces historical context such as the Soviet-American relationships and ecological activities in the CSSR. Last but not least it describes causes, course and consequences of the Chernobyl accident. In the analysis only Czechoslovak/Czech and American press from the period from 1986 until 2011 was used. This procedure enabeled putting down and analysing the accident's media image in particular dailies and its transformation through the time. It also enabeled the confrontation between the Czechoslovak/Czech and the American press depiction. The contribution of this disertation is in the fact that it complements previous studies about the Chernobyl accident which primarily dealt with its ecological, health, social and economical consequences. A more extensive study about its media depiction was missing until now.
