Rogier van der Weyden, The Descent from the Cross: Approaches and Transformations of Interpretation

Based on an analysis of works of the best-known art historians of latest seventy years, will be presented all the issues associated with this famous painting. Over chapters dedicated to original provenance, other fates of the work and issues related to authorship, will eventually be analysed the iconography as well. Attention will also be paid to Erwin Panofsky's theory of hidden symbolism and its application to the depiction of Descent from the Cross. At the end of this work will be evaluated individual approaches of research and gradual transformations of studying approach of this important work of 15th-century Dutch painting.
Winter landscape painting in the works of the selected Northern European painters between 1560-1660

The diploma thesis is focused on the analysis of selected works of the winter landscape painting of the Norther European painters . Structurally, the work is conducted in such a way that it first introduces the evolution of landscape painting in the Northern Europe from 14.-16. century. In this context, three selected works are analyzed, whose scenes are set in the winter landscape. The cultural-historical context of the 16th-17th centuries is then outlined to familiarize with the circumstances of the time. century in the Netherlands. Then lives and works of the painters presented are briefly mentioned. The core of the thesis is the formal and iconographic analysis of selected works, especially from the workshop of the Brueghel's family and their followers. The landscape paintings with an impressive atmosphere are analyzed, observed are also habits and traditions of the ordinary inhabitants of the villages or towns whit is represented on the pictures. The attention of interest are also biblical scenes connected with the Nativity of Chist or folk celebrations of Christian feats during the winter. Collecting of German and Austrian Panel Paintings of the 14th-16th Centuries at the National Gallery in Prague

The thesis Collecting of German and Austrian Panel Paintings of the 14th-16th Centuries at the National Gallery in Prague is devoted to art collecting of panel paintings which are considered to be works from regions of what is today Germany and Austria. Two items were probably created in nowadays Switzerland; six panels are originated from the Southern Tyrol (today belonging to Italy) and two pictures can be localized to Silesia, to Wrocław (Breclau) respectively. The thesis includes works created in the period from the late 14th century to the late 16th century. The paintings have appeared in the region of the today Czech Republic in various periods, many of them belonged to aristocratic collections, which blossomed mainly in the 18th-19th centuries. Many secondary written sources have been survived from this period, in which particular work of art can be often founded. This thesis focus on the paintings which are now at the National Gallery in Prague (or belonged to the collections of its historical predecessors). On the basis of primary and above all secondary written documents can be verified when and under which circumstances the works of art appeared in region of our country and how they subsequently came to the funds of our largest public art collection.
