Christofidou, Isavella ; Kittnarová, Olga (advisor) ; Pecháček, Stanislav (referee)
Gospel is a musical genre characterized by dominant vocals (often with strong use of harmony) reťerencing lyrics of a religious nature, particularly Christian. In the first chapter, I describe gospel as a phenomenon and I mentioned its historical roots. The second chapter deals with the black and white gospel and its subchapters (2.1. 2.2) illustrate the history and development of the both genre. I he third chapter contains the historical genres related to gospel. The main attention is paid to the Negro Spirituals (3.1) and to the blues' music (3.2). The fourth chapter embraces typical examples of songs from Negro spirituál to contemporary gospel songs. The next Chapter (5) is the culmination of my diploma work. I described there the originál means of expression typical for the written scores and practical performing usage of gospel music. I found it the most important and interesting Chapter because I mentioned there many examples typical for gospel music from the musical point of view. The individua! subchapters explain some instructions of interpreters how to realize specific demands. They concern the gospel moan, screams and shouts, song-speech and gospel vibrato, pitch, passing toneš, bends, neighbour toneš and the gospel groupetto, vocal ornaments, rhythm, gospel phrasing and syncopation, repetition,...
Frédéric Chopin as Pianist and Teacher
Loizou, Valentine ; Kittnarová, Olga (advisor) ; Palkovská, Jana (referee)
This diploma dissertation is concentrated on Frederick Chopin as a piano player and pedagogue. His approach to piano pedagogy was visionary as concerns the physiology of the hand and the body's coordination with the instrument. As a musician and pianist he was deeply admired by his contemporaries. His individual style of playing captivated his listeners. This knowledge will ultimately help performers to understand and interpret Chopin's works. The first chapters are focused on Chopin's biography and compositions in chronology. In chapter two we see Chopin as a composer, his choice of genres, his inspirations and early influences as well as what characterizes his works. Chapter three is concerned with Chopin's style of playing (3.1), his opinion about other musicians (3.2) and his relationship with other pianists (3.3). Chapter 3.4 deals with the major issue in Chopin's life which was his reluctance to perform in public. Chapter 3.5 presents in detail Chopin's concerts and repertoire and the following Chapter 3.6 focuses on Chopin's skills as improviser. Chapter four examines Chopin as a teacher and the important role teaching played in his life. Two separate chapters concentrate on Chopin's students (4.2) and the repertoire studied with their teacher (4.3). The testimonies of Chopin's students...
Jazz as a Historical Phenomenon and its Influence Classical Music
Skarparis, George ; Kittnarová, Olga (advisor) ; Christou, Marios (referee)
In my thesis i analyze the history of jazz, since the time of the slavery, and Ii follow how the African American people from various locations and tribes were forced to go in America to work. I divide each period, starting chronologically and explaining how Afro- Americans developed the music which today is called jazz. I analyze the elements from African music that African Americans were using and i move into the era that their style was flourishing in New Orleans. I then speak about the main genres of their music until jazz appeared, and i write about the different sub-styles and forms that existed, such as spirituals, ragtime, blues and others. In the work it is also mentioned briefly how Jazz came into the Czech Republic, and i illustrate the contribution of Jaroslav Jezek. In two chapters i speak about the typical jazz elements and harmony, and i make some comparison with the classical music elements. In the final chapter i analyze three works from composers of the 20th century that were influenced by jazz, and show how their compositions used elements from the african american music.
Comparative analysis of the interpretation with an emphasis on historical context and authenticity of performance art: an analysis of the implementation of various works of Claudio Monteverdi's "della Beata Vergine Vespri" (1610).
Svoboda, Čeněk ; Kittnarová, Olga (advisor) ; Hurníková, Kateřina (referee)
In my dissertation I'm working at the work of art made by Claudio Monteverdi (1567 - 1643) and also comparing three different interpretations of his masterpiece Vespro delta beata Vergine. He wrote this composition in 1610 and so came to a new quality not only for himself and his musical progress, but also for whole musical history. We can say that his Vespro is the first important sacred baroque composition. The comparing is not the only intention for me, I would like to discribe also composers personality in context of musical history and answer some principal question about the problem of "the autentic interpretation". Central African Music
Polydorou, Nikoletta ; Pecháček, Stanislav (referee) ; Kittnarová, Olga (advisor)
In my bachelor thesis I studied how harmony, rhythm and forms can apply in ceremonial music in Central Africa, forms and rhythms that we can find in European music also but somehow different. Firstly, I spoke about the Geographical area in Central Africa, which is divided in latitudes. And how in these latitudes since there were boundary marks, political territories involved. These territories were French Equatorial Africa, the Belgian Congo and Ruanda - Urundi, Uganda and Tanganyika. Secondly, I speak about ceremonial music, how music, dance and drama come together. It is very strange to notice that in some of their languages they use only one word for music, dance and drama. I moved through healing, initiation, birth, marriage, hunting, and New Year and new moon ceremonies. Furthermore, one of the most interesting parts of my thesis is the "Talking Drum", a drum that can announce important news to the tribes. For me of course is very unique but it is normal if we consider that some of these tribes have until nine pitch levels in their speech. One of their special elements is rhythm. African hemiola style is a style that we know from early European music. Considering harmony the most interesting is "hocketus", a technique that can be described by breaking up the melodic flow into interrupted (hiccupped)...

Musical development of the child
Mina, Christiana ; Kittnarová, Olga (referee) ; Beynon, Jennifer Carol (advisor)
This book is divided into nine chapters. In some of them, I will try to explain how children are physically developed at particular stages, the relation they have with the music, what are children able to do, and later suggest activities and pre-existing songs, which could be used to teach musical phenomena, such as singing, sight reading, and composition, starting from the age of three years old. I will also speak about class management, as one of the most important effective factors in teaching. According to the anthropologist Alan P.Merriam, children experience music in mUltiple dissensions, particularly as emotional expression, esthetic experience, way of having fun, communication, symbolical representation, bodily expression. With this book, through particular activities, musical games and musical training, I will try to motivate and support the teachers in my country to try a new way of teaching music in the schools, because I believe music education a gift that enhances life and it is the right of every human being. Children would survive without music, but I believe that music makes their life better.

The Czech Music Community - Tradition, the Present Day
Kuhnová, Barbora ; Jenčková, Eva (referee) ; Kittnarová, Olga (advisor)
My thesis is focused on the entire history of the Czech Music Society. This work is divided into two main parts. In the first section I deal with the history of the Czech Music Society from its very beginning to nowadays and in the sccond part I concentrated on the organization structure of every single part. The Czech Music Society is a voluntary independent association of people who are interested in music. The organization concentrates primarily on music education, musicology, interpretation, publishing and so on. It organizes a lot of activities in connection with music, for example courses both for professionals and amateurs, lectures, workshops, concerts, music summer camps and excursions. Its own history dates back to 1972 when the preparatory commission was established. The organization officially started its activity in 1975. The range of activities was truly wide. After the Velvet revolution in 1989 the Czech Music Society had to tackle serious financial problems. The members have tried to solve these problems, unfortunately without any success. The Society will cease to exist by the end of the year 2006.
